I created the template, thinking it'd be helpful for most mini wikis (see how all the articles for the IllusionGames mini wiki uses it). However, it currently cannot work with mini wikis whose name contains space. Does anybody know how to solve the problem? I don't want to start promoting this template until it can be used with arbitary mini wikis. -Afker 03:37, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- You can use the {{urlencode:}} magicword to replace spaces in external links. Also, you can link to a category (also an image or interlanguage link) rather than embed it with a prefixing colon: [[:Category:Name]]. --Splarka (talk) 19:29, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Galleries
I ask here why it isn't possible to create galleries in the same way as in Wikipedia? It would be helpful for my Mini Wiki Jama Rico. --Braunov 21:59, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
You have my sympathies; my mini-wiki depends on pictures for its development. Since I can't add pictures I've determined that it is pointless to continue any further development. Empice2k 23:59, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Wiping the active mini wiki list
I have a feeling that 70% of the mini wikis listed are actually inactive, and 50% are fully dead. I'm going to wipe the list every month, and if your mini wiki is still active, you are encouraged to add it back after the wipe. -Afker 08:57, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Alas...
It's too bad about this Wikia Scratchpad. It's virtually useless for someone who wants to build a real wiki-based website, but at the same time, a page written primarily by one person won't get approved for a proper wikia. Murphy's Law. -- Randall00 18:20, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Some of the mini-wikis on here are working quite decently actually. -Afker 05:30, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
So if the wiki is edited by a sufficient number of users (say 10+) then the wiki is more likely to be approved &upgraded? Kowalskr 06:30, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- The size of the community for the wiki is one of the factors, yes. Keep in mind there are also other factors to be considered. -Afker 06:10, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
page error?
According to Internet Explorer, there is an error on every page. The error report is displayed as followed:
Line: 144
Char: 61
Error: Expected '}'
Code: 0
Does anyone know what's causing this? --Ixfd64 00:24, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
- a missing '}' should be the problem!! lol. On every page of what? Jake95 17:54, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm keen to get involved
Is there anywhere I can find tasks to do??--Drawde83 23:02, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, Scratchpad is really just a collection of many independent communities. There are very few things that really link Scratchpad as a whole together. You can try see if there are any templates you can develop that new mini-wikis might find useful. Perhaps improve upon the current Template:Nav box. -Afker 09:28, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- I hope this reply isn't too late, but one place you can get involved is with Category:MINI WIKI NAME. That category name is used an example, so there shouldn't be any pages in it. However... there are 189 articles in this category and quite a few subcategories. It's likely the creators of these mini-wikis misunderstood the category system and didn't change it to their own name. If a mini-wiki is still active, it would be useful for them to be in a real category instead of this example one. Angela (talk) 22:26, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Sub pages
My page is Middle School Science Teaching.
I am getting ready to create pages that have the basis of the testing to become a middle school science teacher based on the structure of the Praxis exams. As is I can put it all in one page, but that will grow quickly, especially as I add pictures -- and as other hopeful teachers join the process.
I am hoping it will evolve away from teacher testing and towards teaching "learning to learn," which means teaching kids to organize their knowledge and their social development so that they will be ready to intelligently handle whatever life throws at them: life as an extension of scientific inquiry.
So to start I will need sub pages for Biology, Physics, Math, Chemistry, and a few other less important things such as lab safety. And then, if things click, I can move onto the real issues, such as connecting kids w/ science.
I want to work on a MediaWiki site, though some commercial sites seem to support this need for sub pages better. What do you suggest?--John van v 03:41, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Community
I anyone here interested in collaborating more closely to support this site. We can use any communication too available, such as Jabber. Jabber works with SIP which gives it VoIP connectivity (Internet Phone). Frankly, I don't see any difference as to whether I use wikia or scratchpad -- it seems simply a matter of status; scratchpad is just as good.
Much more useful to me would be to have my own domain, which I can of course easily do!! And of course anyone I collaborate with along the way is invited to be a part of it.--John van v 18:38, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
how do I make my new mini Wiki work from right to left?
I just opend up a new mini wiki at "Israelisabroad".. it is intended to be shown in hebrew (from right to left).. how do I reconfigure it to do that? I tried readying some of the guidlines of Wikia but didn't make sence of any of it. Barak4u 21:59, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- You have to go to a different scratchpad dedicated to Right-to-left languages. Here. -Afker 23:18, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- I wish it was that easy.. I went to that page which you linked and created a new wikiname but still it appears to be left-to-right instead of right-to-left. it seems that there is no proper right-to-left Hebrew mini wikis on wikia - they all seem to apear from left-to-right. I am starting to think that there is a major bug in the wikia system here. please help me out. Barak4u 07:58, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

New Logo?
I dont know how to change the logo. It seems to be protected, but friends who visit my mini-wiki keep asking me about the "blood stain", and it kinda gets to me aswell, so I thought I'd propose something a little less distracting but in keeping with scratchpadiness. A marginal note. What do yall think? Something 04:14, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- that's a great new logo. I've uploded it to Image:Wiki.png so it's now the logo for the monobook skins. If you also want to change the logo for the new quartz skins, please upload one that is 266 pixels wide and 75 high. Angela (talk) 05:27, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Problem with Monobook skin
On the Monobook skin, the "Save page" and "show preview" buttons are being covered by the GNU documentation license thing. I'm using Simple right now to type this. I was wondering if there was any way to stop this template from covering these buttons. ShadowUltra 16:52, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Can't create new pages
I'm currently unable to create new pages on Scratchpad. For example, when I tried to create my user page User:Bi, I was able to edit the page, but when I tried to save it I got this message:
- Database error
- A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:
- (SQL query hidden)
- from within function "Article::insertOn". MySQL returned error "1062: Duplicate entry '2-Bi' for key 2 (10.8.2.9)".
...and when I tried viewing the page it didn't show up:
- Scratchpad does not have a user page with this exact name. In general, this page should be created and edited by User:Bi. [...]

NES-era translated Wikipedia
Would anybody be interested in an Incubator Plus style project to create a "bad translation" of Wikipedia in the style of classic video games (Final Fantasy 1 & 2/4, The Legend Of Zelda, Castlevania II, etc.)? Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this, but I'd like to get some people together to create some basic "grammar" for the project and such rather than dive in head-first. - Do you have a name for your project? If you have a name, I can help you get started with it. — SpikeToronto 06:05, March 18, 2013 (UTC)
┌─────────┘
I think your project would be better served by a full-fledged, free-standing wiki here at Wikia. You can create one by going here. You may find the shared, multi-, mini-wiki nature of Scratchpad too limiting for such a project. Also, you should be aware of the statement at Scratchpad:About regarding the sometimes temporary nature of projects created here. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks! :) — SpikeToronto 11:49, May 20, 2013 (UTC)
User Page Wiki
I created a wiki a few days ago and then discovered this and was wondering if something could be added about making your own user page at my wiki which can be found here. Curiouscrab (talk) 03:27, February 15, 2013 (UTC)
- We don’t really promote other wikis. Also, I’m not quite sure what usefulness the other wiki serves. I tried it, and all it seems to do is take one to one’s userspace and open an edit window. It might be more useful if it used a forms approach and created a userpage after one filled in certain fields in a form. — SpikeToronto 07:19, March 18, 2013 (UTC)
Archives
I think the archives could use their own divider bar to be put on, a template to be put on the archives, and the archives be protected after that. Curiouscrab (talk) 03:29, February 15, 2013 (UTC)
- Great idea! I moved the archive bar code you added to the top of this page to Scratchpad talk:Community Portal/Archive bar. That is then transcluded into Scratchpad talk:Community Portal/Header, which is then transcluded to atop this page. I have unprotected both of those pages so you can do whatever you need to them to achieve your objective. After you’re done, just list here the pages you think should be protected, and I’ll take care of it. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 06:21, March 18, 2013 (UTC)
- UPDATE: I went ahead and did it. I created /Archive header to place atop each archive page and then transcluded it to each of /Archive 1 and /Archive 2. I left everything unprotected. Take a look, let me know here what you think, and then I’ll lock up the pages. Thanks! :) — SpikeToronto 06:36, March 18, 2013 (UTC)
The navigation to the left of the page isn't entirely correct. It says List of mini wikis yet it links to a redirect which links to a page saying what mini wikis are.
~Curiouscrab (talk) 20:18, July 10, 2013 (UTC)
- That’s because you’re using the old Monobook skin. If you switch to the default Wikia/Oasis skin, it’s a whole different experience. But, thank you for bringing that to our attention. It just requires a fix at MediaWiki:Sidebar, the old Monobook menu. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 05:45, July 11, 2013 (UTC)

Front Page Misleading
It has a link that says create a new wiki page but means to go to the page to create a new wiki, not create a new wiki page. Could someone change it to something else not misleading such as changing the whole sentence to Just create a new wiki and get started today! or something like that?
~Curiouscrab (talk) 20:24, July 10, 2013 (UTC)
- Hey CC! Because you use the Monobook skin, I am not sure to which of the many links on the mainpage you are referring. Do you mean the one in the lefthand sidebar? Or, do you mean one of the two links (create a new wiki?/create a new miniwiki?) in the body of the mainpage? Thanks! — SpikeToronto 06:06, July 11, 2013 (UTC)
- I mean on the front page in the section called "What is Scratchpad?" there's a link in big letters and it sounds a little misleading.

Template:Archive list
I'm not sure you want it to say Create next archive on the community portal, so I created a code here that can easily be implemented on the template. Just replace the last line of the template above the documentation.
~Curiouscrab (talk) 20:35, July 10, 2013 (UTC)
- Hey CC! I’m not exactly sure where to input your suggested code for Template:archive list. I have copied the entire code, as it is now, to Template:Archive list/sandbox. You can edit the code there, and then try it out at Template:Archive list/testcases. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 06:19, July 11, 2013 (UTC)
Recent Changes Bug
I noticed when a user page/file or page in the user/user talk/file namespace is deleted, the link in Recent Changes is blue when it should be red. All other pages are red links as they should be.
~Curiouscrab (talk) 21:26, July 10, 2013 (UTC)
- This is a cache problem with Wikia... Since they want to save on resources, stuff doesn't appear as "deleted" fast enough for it to keep up... It usually updates within a hour or two though :) 21:32, July 10, 2013 (UTC)
- On this wiki, by then the link is gone.
~Curiouscrab (talk) 22:00, July 10, 2013 (UTC)
- On this wiki, by then the link is gone.
- As Kris was saying, this is a caching issue. Different namespaces have their caches updated at different rates. For the main/article namespace, the cache updates almost immediately. Other namespaces — for example: the File namespace — can take as long as half a day. Still longer, other namespaces — for example: the Category namespace — can take up to 24 hours, sometimes even longer. — SpikeToronto 06:30, July 11, 2013 (UTC)
- P.S. On Scratchpad, there is one further wrinkle as regards the File namespace. When we locally delete a file, if there exists a file with that exact same name at the WikiMedia Commons, then the Commons file will show up in place of the locally deleted file. In such instances, even though we’ve deleted the local file, the link will always remain blue at both Special:RecentChanges and Special:Log. — SpikeToronto 06:34, July 11, 2013 (UTC)
