But Have You Read the Book?
TCM, beginning at 8 p.m.
Tonight's Turner Classic Movies lineup ties in with the latest book from the network's TCM Library publishing arm: But Have You Read the Book? 52 Literary Gems That Inspired Our Favorite Films by Kristen Lopez. As its title suggests, the book looks at 52 cinema classics and the literary works that served as their inspiration. Five of those titles will air on TCM this evening: 1939's Wuthering Heights (pictured), the gothic romantic drama based on the novel by Emily Bronte; Mildred Pierce (1945), the film noir drama based on James M. Cain's novel; To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), an adaptation of Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel; Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), the musical comedy adapted from the book of the hit 1949 stage musical; and To Have and Have Not (1944), a romantic drama adapted from the novel by Ernest Hemingway, who offered contributions to the screenplay along with fellow literary great William Faulkner.
