Introduction

Situated on Lake Geneva, Lausanne’s main claim to fame is that it’s home to the International Olympic Committee.

Built on three hills, the city is extremely picturesque with an old town, Gothic cathedral and pretty waterfront area. It might boast a stunning location, but the city doesn’t quite have the kudos of its more famous cousins, Geneva and Zurich. Saentys is working to redress that balance.

Working in partnership with Lausanne Tourisme, our team was briefed to create a contemporary brand that appeals to the widest possible audience: international and national tourists, locals, businesses and the media.

Our creative solution was to bring out the vibrancy of the city, putting it on the map on an equal footing with Geneva and Zurich, synthesising all the distinctive features of Lausanne in a dynamic, stamp-like graphic element.

Typography and colours

The lettering style was inspired by vintage advertising posters for the destination, specifically the one published by ADIL (Association des intérêts de Lausanne), now Lausanne Tourisme, designed by René Martin.

The rich, vibrant colour palette is inspired by the Olympic rings, the Geneva lake as well the architecture of the city.

From its monuments to its culinary pecularities, a comprehensive icon set depicts the many aspects of the city and guides visitors throughout the different documents.

Corporate

We designed a complete stationery set as well as annual reports, Powerpoint templates and working documents targeting the national and international business and institutional audiences.

With a reduced colour palette, corporate brand applications are restrained and professional in tone but still convey dynamism and openness.

B2C communication

The primary audience remains the visitors and a wide range of marketing collaterals was designed to communicate on Lausanne Tourisme’s offer of guided tours, City passes and other products with flyers and posters. Brochures presenting the City highlights and walking routes suggestions are also a key tool to get acquainted with Lausanne.

Maps

A foldable Z-card map and tearable A3 map blocks were designed for specific usage.

Even in the digital age, a paper map is a crucial first touch point for the visitors discovering the city, and help them easily spot and access its highlights.

Environmental design

The development of the new branding at the Maison du Tourisme offices, the refurbishment of the Ouchy information point and the opening of the train station new information center allowed us to work on various signage concepts and window covering art.
