Vermouth is a fortified wine that has been infused with herbs, spices and other botanicals. It has a subtle flavor that pairs perfectly with any type of liquor. When combined with your favorite mixers, the result is an amazing and unique flavor experience. The vermouth used in this recipe is Falset-Marçà Cooperative, from Priorat. Bottled under the trade name Falset, like the town in Tarragona where the winery is located, it has a secret formula that they do not reveal but that contains one hundred aromatic herbs.

Serve it in a cocktail glass, previously chilled, with crushed ice, the peel of fresh oranges full of aroma and maraschino cherries. It goes incredibly well with anchovy and cheese, or pickled mussels. Vermouth is a perfect choice for any occasion, so why not give it a go today!

Cooking directions

Ingredients

  • 4-6 sweet cherries, unfrozen, stemmed and rinsed
  • 2 maraschino cherries for garnish
  • 90 ml sweet, red vermouth
  • 100 g ice cubes
  • 1/2 fresh orange for zest

Step 1. Let’s prepare the crushed ice first. Put the ice cubes into a blender. Add cold water to cover about half the ice. Pulse until the cubes crush into the chunks about 1/4” in size. Put aside for a while.

Step 2. In a cocktail shaker, muddle the cherries to a juicy pulp. Add the vermouth and shake well.

Step 3. Add the crushed ice to the shaker and stir well again for about 20 seconds. Pour the mixture into a chilled martini glass.

Step 4. Peel the fresh orange and twist it around the rim. Take 2 whole maraschino cherries, skewer them with a toothpick, and drown them a bit in the glass.

Step 5. Drink and enjoy! Be sure to eat the boozy pulp too.
