I'm a native New Yorker and lived in the city for about half a century; I moved to Massachusetts in 2016 after three years in the Pacific Northwest. After a couple of years I'm starting to feel at home in the Boston area, though I still have a lot of exploring to do, and many questions large and small. I live with cattitude and adrian_turtle"; Adrian and I had a long distance reationship for a decade, and were happy with it, but this is a lot better. Long distance continues to work well for me and rysmiel, and I don't expect either of us to be relocating to the other's country.

I'm a retired editor and proofreader.

I have a lot of books, but many of them are in packing boxes. I'm reading less than I used to, in some senses, though I think part of that is that more of the words in a row are blog comments and twitter posts and news articles, rather than books or magazines; right now my to-be-read pile is mostly either on the kindle or from the library, or both, because there seem to be a lot of things I want to read once, or think I might want to read once, but don't need to keep.

People talk about planning ahead, but when it becomes cannibalizing your actual present self for the sake of vague future possibilities, it's time to stop and plan for here and now. Don't wear yourself out so badly that there's nobody left to have that future.

I copied all my old entries and my userpics from LiveJournal when I moved over here, and deleted the LJ version of this journal in March 2019. I tweet occasionally as vicki, but I don't look there every day, or even every other day. Email is probably the best way to reach me, followed by the telephone (voice or text); if you need the number, please ask.

Please don't take any of my icons without checking; they include photos of me, and some icons made specifically for me, as well as some that I'm happy to share. (Most of those are labeled as such.)
