The Mousse Returns Arc is the 20th story arc covered in the Ranma ½ manga, spanning five chapters. This arc was included in volume 10 of the Weekly Shōnen Sunday tankōbon and split between volumes 8 and 9 of the Viz Media tankōbon.
Plot Summary[]
Having returned to Japan via a travelling circus,[1] Mousse reveals to Ranma that he too now has a Jusenkyo curse as well as taking some of the water from the spring back with him.[2]
After an unsuccessful attempt to splash Ranma with the Jusenkyo water,[2][3] Mousse is told by Akane to challenge Ranma again so he can defeat him and prove himself worthy to Shampoo.[4] Unfortunately Shampoo catches onto Akane's plan and hands Mousse multiple exploding battle items to ensure that he'll lose instead of Ranma. Despite temporarily gaining the upper hand, Mousse is soon defeated, but does succeed in making Shampoo feeling sorry for him and allowing Mousse to live in the Cat Café with her.[5]

- Mousse is revealed to have fallen into the Yazunīchuan spring at Jusenkyo and now turns into a duck.

Changes in anime[]
- While the anime often changed order of story arcs, this one gets adapted way earlier and even gets references during the Japanese Nanniichuan Arc.
- Kuno is present at the circus and tries to protect The pig-tailed girl and later Akane from Mousse (he fails).
- The scene where Ranma and Genma argue over Ranma's going to rescue "Akane" is exclusive to the anime.
- Two scenes from the manga are missing in this version; Mousse's attempt to dig a boulder-drop and pit-trap for Ranma, only for Shampoo to trigger it onto him, and Akane splashing Shampoo and using her to terrorize Ranma into agreeing with her plan to fake a defeat for Mousse after he declares that he'd rather be stuck with Shampoo than lose a fight on purpose.
