Kitty Takes a Bride (恐怖 化け猫の花嫁, Kyofu bake neko no hanayome?) is the 138th chapter of the Ranma ½ manga and final chapter of the Ghost Cat Arc.
Summary[]
The Ghost Cat returns the following night to fight Ranma. Ranma tries to run away since his phobia of cats is causing him to panic, but Genma forces him to try and fight. The Ghost Cat decides the best way to defeat Ranma would be to possess Genma, but that only works in Ranma's favor since he has no problem beating up his old man.
Plot Overview[]
As she collects in the washing, Kasumi comments on strange wind which is blowing. Meanwhile, Soun mentions that the Sun will be setting soon, meaning that the ghost cat will return. As Akane thinks about what the cat said the night before, Kasumi and Nabiki talk about how unfortunate it is that the ghost is something that Ranma is phobic about, although Soun reassures them that Ranma is no coward.
Inside the Tendo Dojo and Ranma is cowering underneath Futon, continuously hoping the cat won't come. Shampoo, meanwhile, can't believe what trouble has befallen Ranma because of the little bell she has. This prompts Ranma to angrily tell Shampoo that she should get rid of it, but Shampoo calmly retorts that she doesn't want to.
Just then the sound of the ghost cat's bell echoes around as the ghost cat begins walking towards the Dojo. As the cat meows at the door, Ranma hides behind his father, demanding they make it go away. At that moment, Genma states up and declares that since Time immemorial it has been the sworn duty of Martial Artists to protect mankind from monsters before grabbing Ranma, kicking him towards the ghost cat whilst telling him to "get to it".
Genma's kick manages to send Ranma flying head first into the ghost cat's nose. As the ghost cat takes a few steps back and comments how Ranma is a force not to be sneezed at, Genma and Shampoo continue trying to get Ranma to fight the ghost cat, but Ranma still outrightly refuses to cooperate. Meanwhile, the Tendos look on, with Soun declaring that battle as having begun, whilst Nabiki views it more as a good cry.
Suddenly the ghost cat declares that in order to ensure its marriage to Shampoo, it's prepared a cat hex. The ghost cat then seemingly jumps towards Ranma when actually it retreats inside it's bell in order to possess Genma. As Ranma looks on in shock, the ghost cat declares that there's no way Ranma can bring himself to strike his own father, however, Ranma has no qualms fighting his father and begins beating the possessed Genma mercilessly, as Kasumi and Nabiki comment that as soon as there's no cat face in front of him Ranma was able to turn back into his usual self.
As Ranma continues beating up his father, the ghost cat sees it has made the wrong choice and leaves Genma's body so that it can possess Shampoo instead. However, this backfires as well when Shampoo kicks Maomolin's bell before slapping it several times and sending it flying into a nearby wall.
While the ghost cat gives up on the Shampoo idea, Shampoo tells the ghost cat that it can now see how much she loves Ranma. Ranma, however, disagrees as he fought the ghost cat to save himself, not for the woman he loves. After a moment of shocked silent, tears come to Shampoo's eyes who takes a few steps away from Ranma before she begins talking to cursed bell about how whoever holds it becomes the bride of Maomolin. After Akane asks Shampoo if this means she's going to marry the ghost cat just because Ranma dumped her, Ranma tries to reassure Shampoo that he was calling her an "idiot" in a good way.
At that moment, Shampoo turns around and passes Ranma the cursed bell before pushing him into the Koi pond. With Ranma's female form now in possession of the small bell, Maomolin declares her his new bride and rushes towards her. Whilst holding the squirming Ranma in it's hand, the ghost cat licks her by way of affection. However, this finally sends Ranma over the edge and her Nekoken sets in.
With Ranma using her Nekoken, she is easily able to escape the ghost cat's grasp before shredding several nearby trees to ribbons. Viewing Ranma as mean as an alley-cat, the ghost cat retreats back into it's bell and flees whilst declaring that it's not marrying Ranma. As Maomolin flees, Akane comments that she can't help but feel sorry for it, but the next day Akane is shocked to see the ghost cat trying to convince now terrified female Furinkan High School students into accepting the small bell. While Ranma runs away and begs the kitty goes away, Shampoo comments that a hunting cat doesn't give up easily.
