The folks behind Morgan’s Pier, Harper’s Garden, Juno, and several other food and drink destinations in Philly will open their first suburban restaurant — a 237-seat indoor/outdoor space focusing on wine on tap and fresh, local ingredients — in Ardmore this week. Called Lola’s Garden, the 1,800-square-foot restaurant (with a 2,500-square-foot outdoor patio) will occupy a prime central location in the Suburban Square shopping complex, right where a Kate Spade store used to be.
The restaurant is the latest endeavor from FCM Hospitality, the restaurant group owned by Avram Hornik. Hornik has opened dozens of restaurants in Philly and on the Delaware riverfront over the past 20-plus years, but this will be his first big one in the suburbs, close to where he grew up. For the menu, Hornik recruited chef Andrew Wood of Russet, the farm-to-table BYOB on Spruce Street that closed in the summer of 2019. It will feature “honest local ingredients” with a focus on sustainability, and according to Wood, his dishes will put an emphasis on “simple, clean, big flavors.” The interior design, which was handled internally by Hornik and his team, will reflect the energy of the menu — an airy feel, accordion windows, and a lush, greenhouse-inspired space.
Menu highlights include the Lola burger with pickled beets and mustard aioli, a seared sea scallops salad, and grilled duck breast with local mushrooms and cipollini agrodolce. The entirety of the beverage menu will be sourced from Pennsylvania, with wine on tap by the glass or carafe. Lola’s will be open for dinner and small bites starting today, April 14, with brunch and lunch service coming at the beginning of May.
