Welcome to PFLAG Connects: Asian American & Pacific Islander Community! These virtual meetings are open to parents, family members, and members of the LGBTQ+ community who are AAPI. Each meeting is led by members of the AAPI community who will guide you in receiving support, giving support, and finding resources to help you, your family, and your community. Thank you for attending this month’s AAPI PFLAG Connects: Communities meeting! These AAPI PFLAG Connects: Communities meetings take place every second Sunday of the month. Below are some of the resources we mentioned during the recent call you may find helpful.
November Meeting Resources:
Election Outcome Joint Statement – A joint statement signed by 150 LGBTQIA2S+ organizations, including 41 PFLAG chapters and PFLAG National.
Mental Health Toolkit (TWLOHA) – Mental Health Toolkit offering valuable support for LGBTQIA+ people facing the pressures of the 2024 U.S. general election from the organization To Write Love on Her Arms’ (TWLOHA).
LGBTQ+ Movies/Series:
- “Will & Harper” – A heart-warming film, “Will & Harper” is a story about friendship, allyship, and the journey to becoming your true self (Netlfix).
- “Heartstopper” – Teens Charlie and Nick discover their unlikely friendship might be something more as they navigate school and young love in this coming-of-age series (Netflix).
- “Big Boys” – Jack Rooke’s comedy about two mismatched boys who strike up an unlikely friendship when they’re thrown together at university (BBC UK).
- “1946 | The Mistranslation that Shifted a Culture” – 1946 is a revolutionary documentary that chronicles how the misuse of a single word changed the course of modern history.
- “Love, Simon” – This touching movie shows us a young man and the process he went through discovering his sexuality (Hulu).
- “Pray Away” – Ex-leaders and a survivor of the so-called conversion therapy movement speak out about its harm to the LGBTQ+ community and its devastating persistence (Netflix).
- “Changing the Game” – This intimate story takes us into the lives of three high school athletes from across the US – all at different stages of their athletic seasons, each sharing their lives as transgender teens (Hulu).
- “Boy Erased” – The son of a Baptist preacher unwillingly participates in a church-supported gay conversion program after being forcibly outed to his parents (Netflix).

- “Walking the Bridgeless Canyon” – Written by LGBTQ advocate Kathy Baldock, this book explores historical and current discrimination faced by the LGBTQ community from the Christian church and political sector.
- “The Savvy Ally” by Jeannie Gainsburg – The Savvy Ally provides a successful foray into the confusing and ever-changing world of being an ally to the LGBTQ+ community.
- “Red, White, and Royal Blue” by Casey McQuiston – What happens when America’s First Son falls in love with the Prince of Wales?
