It would not be an overstatement to claim that Pears has made a significant impact on public health in Africa and the world at large. With its steadfast support of the International Masters in Public Health programme at Hadassah-Hebrew University for over a decade more than 120 IMPH Pears graduates have fought and prevented diseases, designed programmes and strategies for disease prevention and disaster management, and contributed to the education of health professionals in their home countries. Our Pears Scholarships at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem enable students from the developing world to develop the skills and experience they need to combat their countries’ most pressing challenges.
The Foundation provides full scholarships to enable students from the Global South to study for an International Masters in Public Health, an MSc in Animal, Plant or Nutritional Science, or an MA in Glocal Community Development Studies – all at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a global leader in these fields. The Foundation has also enabled the creation of alumni networks to provide continued support, development and networking opportunities.
The International Masters in Public Health programme promotes excellence in international public health research and practice. It provides students with the tools to examine public health problems in their countries and formulate intervention strategies at both community and national level. Students include doctors, nurses, health professionals and economists and graduates return home to occupy key positions in the healthcare systems of their communities and countries.
The Masters programmes at the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment train students in the latest methods of farming techniques, protecting and rehabilitating the environment and increasing food production.
The Glocal International Development Masters focuses on questions related to poverty alleviation, reducing inequalities, promoting economic independence, social cohesion and sustainable management of environmental resources. Students gain strong academic knowledge as well as up-to-date skills and tools to support marginalised communities around the world.
Pears Scholars and alumni are currently working actively on solutions to key issues in Africa, Asia and across the world from the management of cholera and polio epidemics to training farmers.
At the heart of this programme are the principles of skills transfer, academic excellence, creating positive links between Israel and the developing world and empowering the next generation of leaders in health and agriculture.
Pears Foundation also supports the Diversity and Inclusion unit at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which aims to foster a multicultural, tolerant, and pluralistic academic community.
