#208 Email Outreachy 2020 interns and write a CommBlog interview
Closed: stale 10 months ago by jflory7. Opened 4 years ago by jflory7.

Summary

Send email questionnaires to Outreachy Summer 2020 interns and put together a CommBlog interview article with the responses

Background

Earlier, @sumantrom published a GSoC 2020 intern interview, which is awesome. But it accidentally leaves out the four Outreachy interns working in Fedora this summer. We should write a new interview article that also includes Outreachy interns.

For context, see these references below:

  • Outreachy 2017: Meet the interns!
  • Tag: Fedora Mentored Projects interviews
    • "Get to know Fedora Project interns! Fedora participates in mentored project organizations like Google Summer of Code, Outreachy, and some Red Hat internships. This tag collects interviews and conversations with the interns who have participated in spending a few months working on Fedora with their mentors."

Details

I made a Google Form questionnaire for this in 2019. The questions I sent for 2019 were as follows:

  1. What is your preferred written name?
  2. What is your Fedora Account Systems (FAS) username?
  3. What is your IRC / Telegram username(s)?
  4. Who is/are your mentor(s)?
  5. URL to a picture of you to display
  6. Tell us a little about yourself?
  7. How did you hear about GSoC / Outreachy?
  8. What caught your attention about Fedora? How does it align with your personal interests?
  9. What are you looking forward to most during this GSoC / Outreachy round?
  10. Where do you see yourself after you complete this GSoC / Outreachy round?
  11. Who is your favorite Marvel superhero / superheroine?
  12. Anything you want to add?

To complete this ticket, we need someone to volunteer to either make a form or email a questionnaire to the four Outreachy 2020 students. You can use these questions above or add/remove some. We can help you collect FAS usernames and email addresses.

Once you collect responses on the questionnaire, put together a Community Blog article (or multiple if preferred) with the interview responses from the Outreachy interns. Then, we will be done. :tada:

Outcome

Better representation and visibility of Outreachy Summer 2020 interns working in the Fedora Community :tada: :sparkle:

@shraddhaag Okay super! :raised_hands: Is there anything I can do to help you start? Do you know how to look up emails for the four Outreachy interns or would you like me to send them privately to you?

@jflory7 I'm not sure where to look up the emails for the interns

@jflory7 I'm not sure where to look up the emails for the interns 😅

The four interns are:

I will send you an email to shraddhag [at] fedoraproject [dot] org with the email addresses I looked up with zodbot.

Thanks for working on this! Let us know if we can do anything to help you take this on.

@jflory7 Thanks for sending the emails :) If this form looks good, I'll share it with the interns on email.

Till the end of this week should be enough time to collect all responses.

@shraddhaag The form looks great! :raised_hands: I think you can ask interns to fill out the form by end of day on Monday, 18 May. Then we can take on the next step once we have responses.

@jflory7 Thanks for sending the emails :) If this form looks good, I'll share it with the interns on email.

This form is great and I am saving this for next year GSoC rounds as well
Thank you both

Update: Received responses from 3 of 4 Outreachy interns. Haven't received a response from Snehal. Is there an alternative platform on which I can reach out to her? (I don't see her on IRC, possibly @snehalb07 on telegram?)

I would try Telegram and see if you can reach her there to give a friendly reminder :)

I am closing this issue as stale. I can't remember if we published the 2020 interview or not, but I hope that we continue to keep this tradition going in 2024. :)
