Overseeing one of the largest mergers in recent health history, she was charged with bringing together 20 provincial and regional health agencies, $30 billion in funding, and over 12,000 employees. Well suited for this challenge, Susan has extensive government experience working with provincial agencies, and in senior influential Ontario government roles, including Associate Deputy Minister Ministry Health and Long-Term Care, where she advanced many strategic initiatives. Susan also worked with the regional health system and gained first-hand experience with local planning and implementation. She worked with downtown health care providers, the city, public health, and social service organizations to create greater alignment and integrated delivery of care for the people of Toronto.
Prior to Ontario Health, Susan was the Chief Executive Officer of the Toronto Central LHIN following a career in the Ontario Public Service that spanned more than three decades. During her tenure as CEO at Toronto Central LHIN, Susan fostered strong local collaborations and financial accountability that led to accelerated integration at the system, organization, and neighborhood levels. In 2017, Susan successfully merged two organizations while fostering greater alignment between home care and community health service providers. Responsible for the direct delivery of home care, Susan designed and implemented innovative new care models to leverage the strengths of all partners working in an dense urban environment.
When Susan departed from the Ontario Public Service in 2015, she was the Associate Deputy Minister responsible for Health System Delivery and Implementation and worked with hospitals, community health centres, long-term care homes, home care providers, physicians, primary care health providers and provincial programs to create strategic alignment in the implementation of important government initiatives, always with a focus patients and delivery of high quality health services.
Since leaving Ontario Health in February, Susan is pursuing a variety of interests. Susan is a Senior Advisor with Santis Health and is continuing to support transformative change in the health sector. She is a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME) at the University of Toronto; an Executive-in-Residence for the Social Medicine Program at University Health Network and a Patient and Family Experience Advisor at Kingston Health Sciences Centre.
