A Huge List of Sales: Sixpenny Sofas and Half-Off J.Crew

The days following a long holiday weekend are often a deals wasteland, but surprisingly, I found plenty of sales worth shopping this week. Nordstrom’s Summer Sale is still going strong, and the retailer is now offering an extra 25 percent off select items, which is a really rare deal for it. Writer Rachael Griffiths has a more in-depth guide to the sale, but I’ve included a few of my own picks below. I especially recommend checking out both the beauty and home sections, where you’ll find Staub, Supergoop, and more.

I love a boring buy, and Amazon’s got plenty on sale in that department, including our best overall toothpaste, dissolving detergent sheets for your dorm’s horrible washing machine, and a few Strategist-tested air purifiers.

From there, I took a leisurely stroll through West Elm’s clearance bin and was particularly charmed by all the cute bedding and décor in the brand’s kids’ section. Most of it would look good in a grown-up’s room, too, but if you’d prefer some bedroom stuff just for adults, I also found one of our best anti-snoring pillows on sale.

As always, make sure to sign up for the new Strategist Sales Alert newsletter to receive each day’s best deals in your inbox. And if you want even more deals, sign up for our regular email newsletter, which includes deals just for newsletter subscribers.

I’ll be nabbing a new tube of Maybelline’s electric-blue mascara now that it’s on sale. Writer Rachael Griffiths first discovered the shade back in February, and it’s become a staple in my beauty routine ever since.

Like most Nordstrom sales, the best deals in the beauty section are on bundles. Fresh’s soy face cleanser is a great option for sensitive skin. It leaves skin “toned and brightened, eliminating an extra step from your skin-care routine,” says makeup artist Sofiia Strykova.

Buy the set. Keep one for yourself. Distribute other two to loved ones. Earn their praise and respect forever. Fin.

I use this huge tube of Supergoop sunscreen nearly every day on my arms and legs. It blends in almost instantly, doesn’t feel greasy or sticky, and actually smells quite pleasant.

Yes, Nordstrom’s Summer Sale is full of excellent clothing and shoe deals, but don’t snooze on the home section, where I found these adorable dinner-party-ready cocottes from Staub.

Ghia launched a large-format bubbly, Le Fizz, earlier this week. To celebrate, the brand is offering Strategist readers a discount on this set — which includes one bottle of Le Fizz and a 12-pack of Le Spritz — with the code ENDLESSSUMMER.

Bamboozle Compost Bin

$28

Bamboozle’s stylish compost bin from the Strategist Kitchen 100 is the cheapest I’ve ever seen it.

$20

If you aren’t sold on Bentgo’s bento-style lunch box, the brand’s lunch bag is the next best thing (and comes in all the same silly patterns).

I found these adorable all-cotton kids’ pajamas at West Elm, of all places.

This pair of classic all-white Reeboks is once again less than $50 (this time at Amazon), in case you missed last week’s Deal of the Day.

If you also balked at the prices of Madewell’s new collaboration with Alexa Chung, you’ll be pleased to learn that other just-as-cute fall styles are 40 percent off with the code FALLFAVES.

Strategist junior writer Bella Druckman’s wallet is now available in a very seasonal merlot shade.

Perfect mary janes to live your “Nora Ephron fall” fantasy.

And the socks to go with them (again with the merlot).

The men’s section is sadly much smaller than the women’s, but you’ll get a good deal on plenty of nice denim!

I’m also partial to this Carhartt cap with a nice font.

More fall picks are up to 50 percent off at J.Crew this weekend, too. It’s a good time to stock up on wardrobe staples like tees, button-ups, and this quarter-zip (that has a fun embroidered icon on the sleeve).

There are so many tops on sale in the women’s section. As a pointelle freak, I’m eyeing this tee with lacy detailing on the neck and sleeves.

I also think this sheer and sparkly number would be a nice going-out top.

This poplin sundress was the most-purchased product across all of our sales posts last month, and now the plus-size version is just $19. Buy now, wear all of next summer.

I am obsessed with this extremely pleat-y dress from Eileen Fisher.

The bright-red shirt that Strategist fashion writer Ambar Pardilla bought at a recent Gap sale is still a good deal.

I recently found out that Frankie’s Bikinis also makes very cute pajamas (though I think you could get away with wearing this outside, too).

If you need to bring your plants indoors for chillier weather, make sure they’re in some nice-looking planters.

The platonic ideal of a bookshelf, in my opinion.

Lovely mid-century-inspired shelving for the discerning toddler. (Or, you know, you.)

And a not-too-expensive little rug for the nursery.

Strategist writer Erin Schwartz noticed two sofas from our best-in-class couches guide on sale right now. First: Sixpenny is offering 20 percent off orders over $1,000 with the code SANDCASTLE, making our favorite soft slipcover couch almost $500 off.

From $77

Turns out that our favorite adjustable anti-snoring pillow is also quite cooling.

$80

If you’d prefer a more inexpensive pillow, our sleep writer’s No. 1 memory-foam pillow is nearly half off. It features Tempur-Pedic’s dense contouring foam, which offers plenty of neck support and cushioning.

As per usual, the bedding at West Elm Kids is far superior to the rest of the store.

Slip’s status-y silk pillowcases are on sale for a better discount than normal. Most colors are $67 — that’s 25 percent off — but some colors are up to 50 percent off, like the autumnal Plum shade pictured here.

And now, a few boring-but-useful things I found on sale, starting with these dissolving detergent sheets. Actress Piper Perabo told us that they’re essential for laundromat runs: “Imagine just putting two slips of paper in your pocket and you’re set. It’s incredible,” she says.

$13 for 4

Our best overall toothpaste (which I also love!) is 20 percent off when you buy it in a four-pack.

These non-leaky glass bottles can be found on the Strategist’s Ultimate Baby Registry. Our writer Lauren Ro originally recommended them in her registry redo piece, where she called out the easy-to-read ounce markings on the body and the nipples that come in five different flow levels that correspond to your baby’s age.

Cybex is offering 20 percent off select car seats and systems through the end of the month. Strategist senior writer Liza Corsillo’s pick is this travel bundle, which includes a car seat, stroller, and bassinet.

As excited as I am that chillier temps are starting to roll in, that does also mean that cold-and-flu season is on its way. Thankfully, our best overall air purifier is on sale today for about the same price it was during Prime Day.

If you’re looking for something a little cheaper, we also approve of this tower-style purifier from Germ Guardian. It’s just under two feet tall.

The Strategist is designed to surface useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Every product is independently selected by our team of editors, whom you can read about here. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
