If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts. Not the JAR brooch and Louis XV chair, but the hand sanitizer and the electric toothbrush. We asked actor Noah Schnapp — a star of Stranger Things whose new film Waiting for Anya is in theaters now — about the lip balm, sneakers, and headphones he can’t live without.
It’s nice that I can do what I want with my hair when I’m not filming. It’s definitely a great change from the bowl cut. I hated that bowl cut — it was mostly my regular hair, but they also added some small extensions just to make it longer and thicker. I think I was first introduced to this hair paste by my hairstylist in L.A. Her name’s Simone, and she used it on me for an awards show. She was like, “Oh you should bring this home and try it.” So I just put it in my bag and brought it home. Now I use it every day to keep my hair together and it smells awesome.
My lips are always chapped and it’s a problem. So whether I’m just hanging out on set, or when I have to look good for an event, I keep a tube of this lip balm in my pocket. My whole family uses the same kind. It’s all-natural and works great. I bring it everywhere.
I bring these around with me everywhere, too. They’re really good, and not just for keeping your breath fresh. They give me something to do — if I’m fidgety, I can just chew on one and it keeps me occupied. Plus, I always have fresh breath.
It’s cool to be able to just flush out the noise and take a break from the world when I’m walking around the city or on a plane. Even on set, to get into my character, I sometimes use these headphones to focus and not get distracted by the world. If I’m trying to get into character and it’s an emotional scene, I’ll listen to depressing or really sad music. Honestly, I don’t have a specific song that works. I just go on Spotify and look up sad playlists. I also listen to Panic! at the Disco a lot. I love them. I was in one of their music videos, so that was really cool. It was for “LA Devotee” and I had to lip-sync the whole song. It was an interesting experience. I was a little nervous, but it was really fun in the end. And then later, like a year later, Brendon Urie brought me onstage at Madison Square Garden with the music video playing in the background. It was really, really cool. It was crazy.
It’s kind of a trend right now and everyone has them. I have them in white so they go with any outfit. They’re comfortable so I wear them everywhere. I feel like everyone, at least all teenagers these days, wears Air Force 1s or Converse. But I would much rather have Air Force 1s over Converse for sure. I think Air Force 1s are cooler and they’re more comfortable.
This really thin, portable phone charger is just easy to bring everywhere. It’s like having an extra battery for your phone, so it’s really nice. I take a lot of pictures with my cast members on set so I can post them to social media later in the year — that’s what uses up the battery most. And since I’m always traveling, it’s nice to have a backup so my phone is always charged.
I love listening to music in the shower, so I use this in the shower a lot because it’s waterproof. Or I’ll stick it in my bag and bring it around so I can play music when I’m in hotels and stuff. It’s really nice that it’s small and portable and Bluetooth. I bring it on set, too, and when I’m on photo shoots. It kind of just makes everything more fun, it lightens the vibe of everything. When I’m on set and I want to focus, I use headphones, but when I want to cheer up and have a little fun, I’ll use the speaker.
