My new Thanksgiving-week recon strategy, like clockwork, is to wait until Black Friday and Cyber Monday hits, then load up on Lord & Taylor cashmere. You could trace my obsession back to this time last year, when I worked on a Lord & Taylor sale post for the Strategist (a blessing and a curse) and stumbled upon one of their enticingly cheap, yet well-reviewed sweaters.
Receiving one of their petite cashmere turtlenecks — just right on the hips, buttery soft, and pill-resistant — felt like being touched by an angel. I wanted to live in this thing. My only buyer’s remorse was that I hadn’t bought five more of them.
A year later, I still can’t stop talking about this cashmere. On the phone to my mother this weekend, I offered my unsolicited advice that she beeline to Lord & Taylor for some. “Isn’t Lord & Taylor for old ladies?” she teased me. This coming from my own mother. Others have been more receptive to my wisdom: So far, I’ve evangelized it to my co-workers, my friends, my family, and strangers on Twitter. A colleague who called in a bunch of cashmere recently confirmed my theory that Lord & Taylor is head and shoulders above the rest: “Wow, this really is soft,” she murmured, while thumbing a turtleneck.
It’s so soft that I’ve deemed it the cheapest, nicest cashmere out there — thicker, fuzzier, and downier, when compared to its peers in affordable cashmere, Uniqlo and Everlane. Buy some sweaters as gifts for your friends and family or just heaps and heaps of them for yourself — you won’t regret it.
Some more Lord & Taylor cashmere, this time in V-neck form.
