It all started with a simple pair of pants. We posted about this suspiciously flattering pair a little while back and the response was so enthusiastic, it got us thinking: Why not sniff out the most flattering things across a bevy of categories, from the most skin-enhancing light bulb to the brightening eye drops to the shapewear designed for all sizes? Welcome to Flattering Week on the Strategist.
There is one thing in my wardrobe that I’m constantly returning to — the most-worn piece in my entire rotation. Major Mini is technically a shapewear slip — though, probably not the way you think of it. Sure, it provides light, gentle compression that actually allows you to eat, breathe, and live your life while wearing it, but it aims to cover and smooth, rather than smash your body to bits to struggle into something that’s actually a size too small. We’re talking true no-pain shapewear, made with a special blend of nylon and spandex that is prettier, softer, less constricting, and far more comfortable than the competition.
Available in half a dozen colors, it’s total emancipation from your average shapewear torture. (And it’s made not to be hidden — so you won’t need to shrug it off in shame if you find yourself on a date that’s gone a bit better than you expected.) The Major Mini comes with a built-in bra, and provides just enough support to keep everything you own from jiggling all over the place.
Don’t be fooled when you first open the package — the Major Mini looks comically small, but the stretch factor is incredible. It never rides or rolls up, and it’s brilliant for layering under anything thin, sheer, flimsy, or unforgiving. And this is key: It is really easy to get into and out of — no back breaking or contorting necessary. (I once owned a compression slip that was so hard to get into, my boyfriend had to grab a pair of scissors and hack it off of my body before I dislocated my shoulder.)
Best of all, the Major Mini provides enough coverage to be worn solo. I’ve gone to work, school, church, a mortgage closing, and even the Emmys while wearing this slip as a dress. Last weekend, I wore my emerald-green Major Mini for a solid 16 hours: after work to a dive bar as a stand-alone dress with some hot-pink ankle boots, to bed that same night as a slinky yet comfy nightgown, and back out again the next morning to brunch as a slip under a very sheer sweaterdress — it looked and felt great the entire time.
