Profile
This brand first garnered attention after its iconic, supremely soft, cotton pima golf shirt, originally released in 1955, showed up on the PGA circuit. A popular uniform of suburban leisure in the 1980s, the Penguin brand has since been embraced by the geek-chic set. Now owned by Perry Ellis, the label retains its quirky appeal. Structured pieces typically feature contemporary twists like brightly patterned lining, bold prints, and of course, the company’s trademark penguin logo. Men’s cotton button-downs come in subtle plaids, and wool fedoras are embellished with grosgrain-ribbon detail. While it hasn’t drawn the same notice, the womenswear selection includes brightly hued polos, cotton shirtdresses, and soft cashmere-blend sweaters. A line of sunglasses produced by California-based Baumvision highlights the accessory collection.
