Partners Sam Buffa and chef Jean Adamson of Vinegar Hill House have quietly opened all-day cafe and restaurant VHH Foods at 55 Water Street in the Empire Stores development in Dumbo, across from the new Cecconi’s with that spectacular view of the bridges.

The space is inspired by LA’s Gjusta and San Francisco’s Tartine Manufactory, offering fast-casual service all day, as well as full-service for dinner. With indoor and outdoor seating, the space offers a view of the “big, beautiful workhorse of an open kitchen,” says Buffa.

Adamson has returned to the kitchen after launching Vinegar Hill House in 2008, with a menu that includes pastries, tartines with toppings like avocado spread, skirt steak sandwich, hot dogs from The Meat Hook, family meals with meats like a smoked chicken, and natural wines.

The cafe will also have a Blue Bottle-influenced coffee program from Jade Adamson, Grace Lowman (Grade Coffee and Blue Bottle), and Sam Anderson (Vinegar Hill House and Mission Chinese) that treats coffee drinks like fancy booze-free cocktails. One is a “Mai Tai Iced Latte,” a premixed drink with toasted coconut milk, almond syrup, salt, orange blossom water, and nutmeg.
