The Course
The Creating a Culture of Innovation (CCI) course will show participants how to manage the elements of culture so that the value of innovation becomes institutionalized. This course will also utilize diagnostic tools to help participants identify and isolate roadblocks and barriers that stand in the way of the Navy's ability to turn creativity into capabilities for improved performance and competitiveness. Participants will leave with an assessment of their own organization's Innovation orientation and a personalized profile showing them how they either enable or inhibit innovation along with ways they can improve.
Objectives
- Understand the principles of innovation
- Focus on getting new ideas into and through risk averse environments
- Look at ways of being clever
- Self-assess on 11 behaviors that can create a culture of innovation
- Utilize innovation as an enabler of organizational performance
- Assess and remove barriers to innovation within your organization
Program Manager
Professor Neal Thornberry, PhD is the Faculty Director for Innovation Initiatives at the Center for Executive Education at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He is also a Professor Emeritus at Babson College in Massachusetts. He has been a visiting lecturer at Duke University, the University of North Carolina, Northwestern, Dartmouth, Ashridge Management College (UK), HEC (France), and Tsinghua University (China) and the Darden School.
His current work at NPS involves the design and delivery of the Creating a Culture of Innovation (CCI ) program for officers and civilians actively involved in Navy innovation efforts. The Faculty
Academic experts from the faculty at Naval Postgraduate School are joined by senior executives from Navy, other governmental agencies, and the private sector to provide participants with a range of perspectives through which course objectives are addressed.
The Location
CCI will be offered in person at the Center for Executive Education on the campus of the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California and in Washington DC. If at NPS, lodging is available on-base at the Hotel Del Monte in historic Herrmann Hall.
Who Should Attend?
The CCI is designed for USN Civilian GS14-GS15, O5-O6, E8-E9.
