Woman who was intoxicated killed pedestrian with vehicle, Corpus Christi police say

Police arrested a 20-year-old woman who they said was intoxicated when she fatally struck a man with her vehicle near the intersection of Ayers Street and McArdle Road early Sunday morning.

This is at least the second intoxication manslaughter incident that occurred in Corpus Christi within the past week.

At 1:21 a.m. Sunday, Corpus Christi police officers were dispatched to the area where an unknown male pedestrian was found with major injuries.

Medics took the man to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Officers investigated the driver of a gray vehicle, 20-year-old Nadine Tijerina. They determined Tijerina was traveling south at the 4800 block of Ayers Street and struck the man, who was not walking in a crosswalk.

According to a release, officers reported Tijerina displayed "signs of intoxication" and was arrested on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle. She was additionally charged with possession of marijuana after officers found marijuana inside of her vehicle.

After Tijerina was medically cleared at a local hospital, she was transported to the City Detention Center for booking.

The name of the man has not been released as of Monday.
