Masked visitors shoot 47-year-old man to death in Manhattan NYCHA apartment
A 47-year-old man was shot and killed by a pair of masked men who showed up at a Washington Heights NYCHA apartment, police sources said Sunday.
David Brown answered a knock on the door of the apartment in the Polo Grounds Towers on Frederick Douglass Blvd. near W. 155th St. about 10:55 p.m. Saturday, sources said.
Brown apparently let them in and one of the men shot him in the abdomen, the sources said.
Police got a 911 call soon after and medics rushed the victim to Harlem Hospital but he couldn’t be saved. It wasn’t immediately clear if Brown lived in the apartment where he was shot.
The killers fled and have not been caught.
One woman who grew up in the building and was visiting her mother, who still lives on the 14th floor, said the incident was frightening.
“We never had something like that happen on our floor, so finding that out, it actually scared us and shocked us because we didn’t know who it was,” said the woman, who did not want to be identified, adding: “I just want to send my prayers and my condolences to his family.”
The shooting comes nine months after a man was shot to death in a parking lot of the Polo Grounds complex. Kenneth Taveras, 33, was shot multiple times in the chest on March 3, just outside the building where he lived with his mother and sister.
Cops in April said they were looking for a suspect, Gekron Williams, 24, in connection with the slaying.
