Time to say goodbye to your Christmas tree: Collection dates for North Jersey towns

If you chose to use a natural Christmas tree this year, your town may offer curbside pickup in January. See below for our list of towns that do so, along with the dates and times for scheduled pickups, as well as any special rules or guidelines.

We'll continue to add to this list, so if your town isn't listed be sure to check back when you are ready to discard your tree. You might also want to visit your town's website or call its main municipal office for more information.

Bergen County

Dumont Christmas tree collection

Natural Christmas tree pickup is Jan. 3 through Jan. 24. Remove all lights and decorations. Artificial trees are to be discarded with regular garbage.

Edgewater Christmas tree collection

Christmas trees will be picked up on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during January.

Elmwood Park Christmas tree collection

Pickup will be Jan. 6 and Jan. 13 in Section 1, Jan. 7 and Jan. 14 in Section 2, Jan. 8 and Jan. 15 in Section 3, and Jan. 9 and Jan. 16 in Section 4. Do not place trees in plastic bags or covers. Call 201-796-1457 ext. 3000 with any questions.

Fair Lawn Christmas tree collection

Trees will be collected the week of Jan. 12.

Franklin Lakes Christmas tree collection

Curbside collection throughout the borough begins on Jan. 3 and then again on Jan. 17. Each collection period may take several days as Gaeta works its way through town. Remove all ornaments and do not place tress in plastic bags. Do not place trees in the street.

Garfield Christmas tree collection

Collection will take place the first two weeks in January, in accordance with the street sweeping schedule.

Glen Rock Christmas tree collection

Collection will take place through Jan. 24. Trees must be placed at the curb, not on the street. Do not include wreaths, fake trees, wire, lights, stumps, garland, plastic bags, netting, tree stands, etc. If anything is left on the tree, it will be the responsibility of the resident to bring the tree (cleared of all non-natural items) to the recycling center.

Hasbrouck Heights Christmas tree collection

Trees will be picked up throughout January on a non-schedule basis. Remove tree stands, rope and plastic bags. Artificial Christmas trees are disposed of on trash days.

Hillsdale Christmas tree collection

Christmas tree curbside pickup will be on Jan. 13 and Jan. 27.

Leonia Christmas tree collection

Curbside tree collection is on weekdays in January, except Jan. 1 and Jan. 15. Remove lights, ornaments, tree stands and plastic bags.

Little Ferry Christmas tree collection

Tree pickup is from Jan. 2 to Jan. 31, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. No decorations.

Lodi Christmas tree collection

Trees are collected curbside on Jan. 8 and Jan. 15.

Mahwah Christmas tree collection

Curbside pickup will take place through January. Trees must be free of all decorations, plastic bags and tree stands.

Maywood Christmas tree collection

Pickup is every Wednesday in January. Do not wrap trees in plastic.

Midland Park Christmas tree collection

Pickup will be on Wednesdays in January, between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Montvale Christmas tree collection

Curbside collection is every Friday in January. Be sure no ornaments or lights are on the trees.

New Milford Christmas tree collection

Tree pickup begins Jan. 2.

Oakland Christmas tree collection

Trees are collected from curbside on a random basis during January. Remove plastic bags, lights, decorations and tree stands before placing trees at the curb.

Old Tappan Christmas tree collection

During January, put undecorated, discarded trees at the curb for chipping by the DPW on Jan. 8 and Jan. 22 for the west side (Central Avenue to River Vale), and Jan. 15 and Jan. 29 for the east side (Central Avenue to the state line, including Central Avenue).

Oradell Christmas tree collection

Trees will be picked up from the curb during January. Remove plastic bags, lights and ornaments. Wreaths and any other holiday greenery should be disposed of with regular garbage.

Paramus Christmas tree collection

Real trees will be collected on Wednesdays and on brush collection day during January. Starting in February, trees will be collected on brush pickup day only. All ornaments, lights, stands and bags must be removed. Fake trees are considered trash.

Ramsey Christmas tree collection

The one-time curbside pickup is Jan. 16.

Ridgefield Christmas tree collection

Callthe office at 201-945-5319 to arrange a pick up date. Make sure all lights, ornaments, stands and plastic bags are removed.

Rochelle Park Christmas tree collection

Pickup will be Mondays (except Jan. 20) along with branches. Trees will not be collected if they are in a bad or if there is anything on them.

Waldwick Christmas tree collection

The DPW will collect trees on Jan. 6, Jan. 13 and Jan. 20, west of (and including) Franklin Turnpike to the Wyckoff border; and on Jan. 7, Jan. 14 and Jan. 21, east of Franklin Turnpike to the Saddle River border. Trees must be curbside by 6 a.m. Lights and decorations must be removed. To schedule bulk collection of an artificial tree, visit the Garbage, Recycling & Yard Waste section of waldwicknj.gov.

Washington Christmas tree collection

Christmas tree will be picked up at the curb for about two weeks, beginning Jan. 6. There is no set schedule for pickup.

Essex County

Glen Ridge Christmas tree collection

The Public Works Department will collect and recyce Christmas trees from Jan. 6 through Feb. 12. Trees will be collected Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, except in the occurrence of weather events or emergencies which require Public Works attention. Place trees curbside with all lights, ornaments and bags removed.

Morris County

Butler Christmas tree collection

Pickups are Mondays with yard waste. Trees should be free of plastic bags, lights and decorations.

Lincoln Park Christmas tree collection

Christmas tree collection on all routes will be Jan. 3, Jan. 10 and Jan. 17.

Netcong Christmas tree collection

Christmas trees will be picked up during January. Remove all wires and decorations, and do not place the tree in a bag.

Riverdale Christmas tree collection

Trees will be picked up with branches and twigs on Wednesdays. They must be free of ornaments, tinsel, etc., and must not be bagged.

Wharton Christmas tree collection

Christmas tree curbside pickup for all zones is from Jan. 2 through Jan. 31.

Passaic County

Ringwood Christmas tree collection

Ringwood BSA Troop 76 will conduct its annual Christmas tree pickup on Jan. 11. Add your tree to the pickup list for a minimum donation of $10. The troop will remove the tree from the curb in front of your home and bring it to the Ringwood Recycling Area. Contact [email protected] or 734-545-0939 by Dec. 29. Donations will help the troop purchase a new equipment shed. New this year, patrons may pay by Venmo @Troop76RingwoodNJ.

There is no curbside collection by the Borough. Trees can be brought to the Recycling Center during operating hours during the month of January.

Wanaque Christmas tree collection

Initial Christmas tree collection will be Dec. 31 and Jan 2. Subsequent collections will be Wednesdays with yard waste. No need to schedule for either pickup.

Wayne Christmas tree collection

The Township will begin curbside tree collection on Jan. 6. Remove all lights, garland, ornaments, tree stand, tree bags and any other objects. Wreaths and garlands should be placed in the trash. Township trucks will collect trees weekdays through Feb. 3. For information, contact Parks & Recreation at 973-694-1800 ext. 3258.

Sussex County

Sparta Christmas tree collection

The Township’s Public Works Department will pick up residents’ used Christmas trees beginning Jan. 2. No additional branches or tree parts will be collected. The trees must be bare with no stands, ornaments, lights, tinsel, bags, etc. Secure the tree off the street and along the curb for collection. Trees must be put out at the curb no later than Jan. 20 at 7 a.m.

Stanhope Christmas tree collection

Townwide pickup of Christmas trees will take place from Jan. 5 through Jan. 24. Do not place trees in plastic bags. After Jan. 24, trees may be brought to the recycling center, 7 Smith St., on Wednesdays or Saturdays, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Wantage Christmas tree collection

Christmas trees will be picked up at the curb through Jan. 31.
