Generations of a Marion County family are serving up success at the Coffee & Crumb Cafe. Tami Walker and her daughter, Kylee Glass, started the business in 2021.

Walker graduated from River Valley and raised her family in Marion County. She worked at Whirlpool for decades.

Glass graduated from River Valley and then Marion Technical College. Both mother and daughter love baking and coffee.

“Every time I travel, I try to find the cool coffee shops,” Glass said.

When the opportunity for a food truck came along, the mother-daughter team started Coffee & Crumb Cafe.

“We left our secure jobs. We just said, ‘Life is too short, if we’re going to do it, we better do it,” Glass said. “We like being our own bosses.”

“I love what we have here,” Walker said.

Soon, customers were lining up to try their homemade cinnamon rolls, fresh muffins, sandwiches, and specialty drinks.

“The Frozen Buckeye is one of our most popular drinks. That’s like a Frappuccino with espresso, peanut butter and chocolate,” Glass said.

The most popular breakfast sandwich is a croissant with two farm-fresh eggs, cheddar cheese, bacon or ham topped with a house chipotle mayo.

Three generations work at Coffee & Crumb. Glass’ children, Sophie, 10 and Emma, 12, help out regularly.

“We’re creating a legacy that will live on for generations in our family,” Glass said.

Glass and Walker said they owe the success of the cafe to support from their husbands, cafe Manager Lanae (Dutton) Satorius and the community who have helped them immensely since the business started.

As their breakfasts, lunches, desserts and catering took off, they needed room to expand. Two years ago, they moved to the lower level of the Justice Center at 100 Executive Drive. The smell of freshly-baked cinnamon rolls wafts through offices of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department next door. Coffee & Crumb is open Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We also offer curbside service for those who want or need it," Glass said. "People can place an order, pull up in our designated parking spots, text us and we will bring it out.”

Right now they offer seasonal treats and drinks including the popular peppermint mocha and snickerdoodle lattes.

They also offer catering. Recently, Quiana Revere of Diverse Moves Dance Studio took a dessert tray to her students at the Christmas at the Palace show.

“We like to take the some of the stress out of the holidays for our customers however we can,” Glass said.
