2 found dead in pickup pulled from river

ELKHART — The bodies of two men reported missing since Sunday morning were recovered Wednesday afternoon from a pickup truck submerged in the St. Joseph River.

Theo Bean, 30, of Elkhart, and Tireno Washington, 38, of Bristol were found at 3:46 p.m. near S.R. 120 west of C.R. 19, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office said.

Bean and Washington were the subjects of a missing persons search announced by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office earlier Wednesday.

A preliminary investigation shows their 2018 Ram 1500 was traveling east when it ran off the north side of roadway, down a ditch and into the river, the report said.

Autopsies were scheduled for Friday morning, Elkhart County Coroner Merv Miller said. Investigators were still trying to determine when the truck might have entered the water, he said.
