1 dies after Christmas Eve triple shooting in Oakland County's Oxford Township

One of the three victims of a Christmas Eve shooting in Oxford Township has died and the suspect, whom authorities believe shot people at random, remains in custody, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's office.

The shooting occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, a short distance from Oxford High School, the scene of a deadly mass shooting in November 2021.

The sheriff's office reported Wednesday afternoon on its Facebook page that the other two victims are recovering from their injuries.

The identity of the deceased victim hasn't been released. Authorities also have yet identify the suspect, pending formal charges.

"At this point it appears that the terrible events of last night were completely random with the suspect just passing through the community when he went off on a violent spree at multiple locations," the sheriff's office said. "He is a convicted felon with multiple past weapons offenses and we intend to seek every possible charge against him."

The shooting was said to take place on Ray Road between Lapeer Road and North Oxford Road.
