HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) — Troopers with the Louisiana State Police are investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Tangipahoa Parish on Saturday, Dec. 21.
The LSP reported that the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office contacted its detectives to investigate a shooting involving a deputy on South Baptist Road near U.S. Highway 90 around 11:55 p.m.

LSP officials said an initial investigation shows that a TPSO deputy tried to pull over a Saturn Vue reported as stolen when the driver, identified as 48-year-old Timothy Douglas, allegedly did not stop, leading the deputy on a chase.
The chase ended at a Hammond apartment complex, where Douglas is accused of getting out of the car and running from the scene.
LSP officials said the deputy then deployed their Taser as Douglas began to get into a fight with the deputy as they attempted to take him into custody. Douglas allegedly resisted arrest “despite multiple attempts to gain compliance.”
That’s when LSP detectives say the deputy fired their weapon at Douglas.
Douglas was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
