Fire breaks out at Downtown homeless encampment near Paycor Stadium
A fire broke out at a homeless encampment on a Downtown riverbank Tuesday afternoon.
The fire caused massive clouds of smoke to travel west toward cars driving on the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge.
At roughly 3:30 p.m., the Cincinnati Fire Department was dispatched for reports of a fire near Mehring Way and Central Avenue, an intersection behind Paycor Stadium.
A fire engine arrived at the scene at 3:38 p.m. and discovered a grass fire associated with a "small homeless camp," a firefighter at District 1 said.
He said the fire was extinguished within 5 to 10 minutes after arrival.
No injuries have been reported.
No one from the encampment was seen at the site while the fire was being extinguished.
The Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the fire.
The Downtown fire comes almost two weeks after a massive fire at a Sawyer Point Park playground damaged the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge, causing southbound Interstate 471 to close while crews work to repair the bridge.
