Shiroki Tsubasa OADs

A third set of OADs called Negima!: Magister Negi Magi ~Ala Alba~ (魔法先生ネギま!〜白き翼 ALA ALBA〜, Mahō Sensei Negima! ~Shiroki Tsubasa Ala Alba~; lit. "Magical Teacher Negima! ~The White Wing~") was announced by Ken Akamatsu himself on his website days after the end of the live-action adaptation's airing.[1] Production will once again be handled by Shaft in cooperation with Studio Pastoral and the entire anime cast from Negima!? will reprise their roles in this new venture. This set of OADs will cover chapters 176 to 183 (except 181) and will be shown in three parts:

  1. The first OAD covers chapters 176 and 177 and was released on August 12, 2008, together with the release of Volume 23 of the manga.
  2. The second one covers chapters 178 to 180 and was released on November 17, 2008, along with the release of Volume 24.
    1. A limited edition Negima audio drama CD was released on December 19, 2008 and will cover chapter 181.
  3. The third one shows chapters 182 and 183 and was released on February 17, 2009 together with Volume 25.

Just like the Negima adaptations by Shaft (i.e. the Spring and Summer OADs and Negima!?), Akiyuki Shinbo will take the directing helm in this set of OADs, together with the very same leading animation crew but will closely follow the original character design and storyline.[2]

Also, manga-only characters Albireo Imma and Kotarou Inugami will have their animated debut in these OADs. In addition, Chao Lingshen will also appear in a flashback of the confrontation between her and Negi at the end of the Mahora Festival arc, again voiced by Megumi Takamoto. She then returns to the future and will not likely have any further appearances.

From the Negi no Ochakai event that was held on May 2008, Ken Akamatsu mentions that if preorders for the first of the OADs exceed 50,000, the staff would consider a film adaptation and 100,000 for a third animated series. The counter at the official website is actually the number of orders for the three OADs. The counter reached 82,581 before the first OAD was released.[3] The total sales of three volumes was 245,000 copies.[4]
