Gin & Luck, the hospitality company behind the New York-based bar Death & Co, plans to open a new bar this year, the first of which is planned for the upcoming Neuhoff District in Germantown. Close Company will build on the success of the group’s cornerstone bar, Death & Co, serving the same caliber cocktails as its predecessor but with a more comfortable, casual atmosphere reminiscent of a neighborhood bar.
“Close Company first and foremost aspires to be a great bar. And by that, we mean following in the footsteps of the great neighborhood bars that have become fixtures in our communities — where we go to celebrate, relax, connect with friends and strangers alike,” Gin & Luck COO Alex Day said in a press release. “Truthfully, Close Company is the kind of place I want to hang out every day, stopping by for a quick one or accidentally falling into a whole night of unexpected fun.”
Key design elements of Close Company will include rich woods, sleek vinyl, and leather with modern accents complementing classic fixtures — an aesthetic the group hopes evinces a warm, lived-in feel. At the heart of the space is, of course, the bar, which will serve twists on classic drinks, batched and chilled freezer cocktails, draft cocktails, and a menu of inventive bar snacks. There are currently no plans for dinner service.
Death & Co opened in Manhattan’s East Village in 2006, later expanding to Denver, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. The bar quickly earned a spot as one of the nation’s best, with recognition at Tales of the Cocktail and on the World’s Best list.
Close Company Nashville is slated to open this summer, with a second location to follow shortly after in Atlanta.
