- "We're going to look after ourselves from now on, and touch our caps to nobody."
- ―Griffle to Tirian, Jill, Eustace, Jewel and Puzzle.
Griffle was a Black Dwarf who lived in the last days of Narnia. He was the leader of a group of dwarfs whom did not see Aslan's Country because of their stubborn belief that Aslan and Tash did not really exist.
- "The Dwarves are for the Dwarves!"
- ―Griffle's Motto
Griffle was a part of a group of Dwarfs who were taken prisoner by the Calormen, to be used as slaves in their salt-mines.
They escaped this fate when they were rescued by Tirian, Jill and Eustace, Jewel and Puzzle. But instead of being thankful, they turned their backs on them, saying that from then on, "The Dwarfs are for the Dwarfs!", meaning they would no longer serve or follow anyone, not even Aslan, save themselves.
The one Dwarf out of all of them who chose to remain with and help Tirian and the others was Poggin.
Griffle was the one who accused Shift of never having Aslan in the first place, so the ape decided to let someone in. During the last battle of Narnia, Griffle and the dwarves killed all of the talking horses that were freed. Soon, the Calormenes threw all the dwarves into the stable with Eustace and Jill.
Due to their lost faith, Griffle and the other dwarves believed that they were in an old stable instead of Aslan’s Country. Even though Tirian, Lucy Pevensie, and even Aslan tried to convince them otherwise, they still refused to believe. Aslan explained that by choosing cunning instead of belief, the dwarves had made themselves a prison in their minds and cannot be taken out. Even when Narnia was destroyed, Griffle and the dwarves still believed that they were in a stable.
