The Mayor of Sanctuary

The 2024 Expanded Edition of The Mayor of Sanctuary by Nara Makes Games, the one-man studio established in Nara, Japan during the 2020 global pandemic. This game reflects my experience living in Nara for eleven months, where I focused my life on all things fun/nostalgia (retro video games, anime, toys, etc). 

This is the very first video game I ever created. I hope anybody who plays it will get some of the calming charm that I intended when crafting this short and sweet adventure experience. This is my love letter to Japan, Nara, the Game Boy, The Legend of Zelda - Link's Awakening, and of course... animals.

The Mayor of Sanctuary was originally released in December of 2023* and the new Expanded Edition was released in July of 2024. The Expanded Edition adds new content, new characters, new collectibles, new scenes, and new music.

* The Mayor of Sanctuary is no longer affiliated with Incube8 Games / Retro Modding Inc. / Olivier Lemire. They are knowingly selling the game against my consent, stealing all royalties, and violating copyright law. They have been served with a formal cease and desist, a Digital Millennium Copyright Act notice, and their distribution license was officially terminated; none of which they have honored.
