Oscar Jockel

About Oscar Jockel

Oscar Jockel is active as both a conductor and a composer. He also plays the organ and has written music for that instrument. Jockel's first musical experiences came as a member of the Regensburger Domspatzen boychoir. He partly financed his education by working as an organist at Salzburg's Franciscan Church, taught at Salzburg College, and was a guest lecturer at the Indian Institute of Technology. Jockel won several awards, including the 2021 Berlin Philharmonie conducting prize. That led to a conducting scholarship at the Karajan Academy and to a post as assistant to Kirill Petrenko at the Berlin Philharmonic beginning in 2022. Jockel has also been active as a composer. His opera Lob des Schattens was premiered in Salzburg in 2018. In 2023, he made his recording debut, leading the Munich Radio Orchestra on an album of Schubert songs with orchestral accompaniment by baritone Benjamin Appl.
