Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock is a rebooted version of the Jim Henson series that ran from 1983 to 1987. The new series premiered on the Apple TV+ service, which is co-producing the show with The Jim Henson Company and New Regency Productions.
The first season debuted on January 21, 2022 with 13 episodes (and a 14th added in November as a holiday special). A second season was announced on December 12, 2022,[1] which premiered on March 29, 2024.
Along with the return of characters from the original series, Back to the Rock features new characters voiced by celebrity guests, including Daveed Diggs, Cynthia Erivo, Patti LaBelle, and others. Foo Fighters also appear as themselves in one episode. Each episode features new songs, as well as reprises of songs from the original series.
Several of the original Fraggle Rock crew returned: performers Karen Prell, Dave Goelz, and Frank Meschkuleit, as well as writer Jocelyn Stevenson, songwriter Dennis Lee, and puppet design and build crew Rollie Krewson, Tom Newby, Connie Peterson, and Polly Smith.
The complete first season was released on DVD and Blu-ray on November 19, 2024.[2]

Production[]
On May 26, 2020, following the success of the Fraggle Rock: Rock On! shorts, Apple TV+ announced that it had signed a deal with the Henson Company to produce a full-fledged reboot of Fraggle Rock, consisting of half-hour episodes, in addition to exclusive streaming rights to the original series and specials.[3]
Pre-production on the series began in fall 2020 under the working title Raphanis (derived from the Latin word for "radish"). Filming for the first season commenced on January 25, 2021, in-studio at the Calgary Film Centre in Calgary, Alberta, Canada[4][5] and wrapped in June.[6]
On December 12, 2022, it was officially announced that the series had been renewed for a second season, with production having already been underway in Calgary since October.[7] Guests announced for the season include Daveed Diggs, Ariana DeBose, Brett Goldstein, and Catherine O'Hara. Production concluded on February 17, 2023.[8]
