MK Battery INTERNATIONAL UK TAX STRATEGY

This document sets out the tax strategy of MK Battery International, and in making this strategy available, MK Battery International is fulfilling its responsibilities under Schedule 19 of the Finance Act of 2016.

MK Battery International’s overall tax strategy aims to support its business by maintaining an appropriate tax rate, while mitigating tax risk and complying with the rules and regulations of the jurisdictions in which MK Battery International operates.  MK Battery International seeks to balance its responsibilities for controlling tax costs with its responsibilities to pay tax where it does business.

Risk Management & Governance

MK Battery International is committed to complying with the tax laws and practices in all of the taxing jurisdictions in which it operates, including the UK, which is where it is headquartered.  MK Battery International management and the management of its parent corporation, KCM Marketing, Inc. are responsible for the day-to-day management of the UK tax risk.  Management, together with outside tax consultants, identifies and manages UK tax risks, using their combined knowledge of the operations of the business and UK tax laws.

The Board of Directors and management of MK Battery International’s ultimate parent corporation, East Penn Manufacturing Co., sets the Continuing Mission, Cultural Values, and Core Beliefs for the entire organization and the MK Battery International’s approach to tax risk management and governance aligns with these.

Tax Planning

MK Battery International engages in appropriate tax planning that supports its business and reflects commercial and economic activity.  MK Battery International does not engage in aggressive tax arrangements that lack economic substance and are entered into only for tax advantages.

MK Battery International complies with all worldwide tax rules and regulations and considers all of these rules when structuring its business operations.  Outside tax consultants are engaged as appropriate to assist in assessing the tax implications of potential transactions and the potential risks associated with such transactions.

Tax Risk

Tax risks will inherently arise due to the complexity of taxes, the interpretation of tax laws and authorities, and the variety and volume of different taxes that impact the operations of MK International Battery.  MK International Battery seeks to identify, evaluate, and manage these risks to ensure they are minimized and do not represent the potential to cause damage to its brand and reputation.  Outside tax consultants may be engaged to assist in this endeavor.

Relationship with Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HRMC)

MK Battery International seeks to develop relationships with all tax authorities, including HRMC, that are based on the principles of respect, fairness, cooperation, and compliance.  MK Battery International adopts a proactive approach to raising tax issues and working collaboratively with tax authorities, wherever possible.
