Google can now take you back in time.
The search giant unveiled a new project Thursday called Timelapse that visualizes how different parts of the earth have changed during the past 28 years. You can watch the trends in deforestation in the Amazon from year to year, or see just how much the city of Las Vegas has grown in a little more than two decades.
NASA and the U.S. Geological Society have been gathering high-res images of the earth for 40 years through their Landsat satellites. Google worked with these two organizations to clean up and curate some of these images, and it also partnered with Time to present these timelapse images along with writeups.
