The Plasma Sphere is a device used by Star-Lord to illuminate dark places.
History[]
Quest for the Orb[]
Star-Lord used the plasma sphere on Morag to illuminate the Temple Vault that contained the Orb. When ambushed by Korath, he kicked the plasma sphere backwards and it shattered against the Sakaarans, disintegrating them.[1]

Theft of the Power Stone[]
After traveling to an alternate 2014, War Machine and Nebula stole several of Star-Lord's belongings to gain access to the Temple Vault, after having subdued and knocked him unconscious. After Nebula used the Lock Pick to open the doors of the ancient structure, War Machine illuminated the vault while Nebula stole the Orb from force field guarding it.[2]
