Synopsis for "Shoto"
Years ago: In a London apartment, Kwannon faces a scarred man asking for passage out of the West. He recognizes her as Nyorin's blade, Matsu'o's prize, the telepath. Kwannon, unimpressed, recalls his betrayal of the clan and offers him a route to Cairo, but emphasizes he must leave the city from there and severe any ties to his past. He insists he's alone. Kwannon smashes a whiskey glass into his face and stabs him, saying people like them never get free until death. As the man collapses, guards burst in, and Kwannon swiftly disarms and kills them.
Later, Kwannon rescues a wounded doctor from assassins, revealing she was sent to kill her but won't, out of respect for the love her husband had for her. Kwannon urges the doctor to flee to China with provided funds.
Present: In Krakoa's jungle, Psylocke and X-23 try to figure out searching for Apoth. Laura promises her trust as much as she can, revealing her struggle with inner rage and asking Psylocke for guidance on controlling it. Psylocke agrees, warning that mastery comes with its own chains. They meet Cable who reveals a dire situation in Sao Mateus, where children are enslaved by an Overclock cartel. Cable asks for Psylocke's help but she is reluctant, prioritizing their mission to find Apoth. Cable, frustrated, vows to go alone if necessary.
At Bar Sinister, Mister Sinister probes her about her butterfly symbol. Psylocke admits it represents her suffering and transformation, a remnant of her merged existence with Elizabeth Braddock. Sinister offers his alliance, intrigued by her quest for redemption.
Psylocke, Cable, and Laura prepare to infiltrate the slave camp in Sao Mateus. In the camp, they encounter ominous silence and the smell of recent machine activity. An ambush ensues, with Cable and Laura battling a powerful Overclock machine.
