Since our last newsletter in March, Codeplay has settled in with Intel and are jointly increasing the momentum of SYCL standard and the oneAPI ecosystem.
The popularity of the oneAPI plugins for Nvidia and AMD GPUs since our December announcement has been impressive, a clear indicator that developers are keen to evaluate and embrace SYCL as the first step to transitioning to other hardware solutions.
Which leads to a big announcement we made in June, to open source a oneAPI Construction Kit giving anyone with a processor (from DSPs to advanced AI systems) the necessary code for a fast route to embracing SYCL and the oneAPI ecosystem. With an OpenCL implementation and SPIR-V, we’re continuing our strategy of supporting open standards and releasing a reference implementation based on RISC-V with vector extensions, an increasingly popular system choice for developers.
Codeplay has been extremely active at a number of events, from International Super Computing (ISC), Embedded Vision Summit and Open Source Summit North America. These are all fantastic events for sharing our updates, providing workshops and presentations, and discussing the extensive benefits to developers. Keep an eye on our upcoming events listed below.
After ten years of development, we have recently taken the decision to end support for ComputeCpp and instead shift our focus and resources to making significant contributions to open source projects, including oneAPI’s DPC++. We believe that by focusing our resources on these projects, we will more effectively support an open ecosystem for accelerated computing. With both ComputeCpp and DPC++ powered by SYCL, it is possible to easily migrate your code, and we have already upstreamed key features of ComputeCpp into DPC++, such as SYCL-Graphs and SYCL Fusion, to make this migration as straightforward as possible. Should you encounter any issues with compiling your ComputeCpp code on DPC++, please do reach out to us via our public support forum and a member of our team will be in touch.
Subscribe to Codeplay's feeds on Twitter and LinkedIn to ensure you get all of our latest news.
Finally I hope you have a great summer and we look forward to seeing you at the upcoming events that Codeplay will be supporting during the remainder of the year.
Best wishes
Andrew

The Future of ComputeCpp
"From September 1st 2023, we will no longer be providing support for ComputeCpp and, instead, upstreaming its key features into the open source and LLVM based DPC++ project."
