Dolfen began freelance illustrating in 2003[1], and she chiefly uses watercolor. She is one of six Tolkien-artists featured in the Tolkien Calendar 2023. She won the Tolkien Society's award for Best Artwork in 2014, 2018, and 2020, for illustrations of Eärendil, an Elven hunt in the First Age, and of Tolkien himself.[2] A portfolio of Dolfen's art was published in 2016, Songs of Sorrow and Hope, containing much of her Middle-earth illustrations.

"Her division-of-labour between her passions echoes that of Tolkien, who balanced...professorial obligations with his own creative work."
Ted Nasmith[3]

Dolfen was formerly on DeviantArt for a time.

She lives near Aachen, Germany, and teaches Latin and English at a school in Western Germany.
