I watched Breaking Bad for the first time this past summer and was blown away. It started out a little slowly, but each season got better and it made for a four and a half to five star show. From the acting to the story to the directing, it was near perfection.
I watched Better Call Saul over the past few months and was blown away for different reasons. It wasn’t on the same level as Breaking Bad because the first two seasons dragged for me and it struggled to keep my interest, but it eventually built momentum and got better by the end. I’d say that it’s a solid 4 star show, the acting was just outstanding and the story was very well done and satisfying.
So now I watch this film that is about the aftermath of a character who got away at the end and it feels like it’s just there to close a loop that didn’t need to be closed. This film added nothing, and really didn’t need to exist. While it was well acted and was overall well done, it felt redundant. It felt as though it was a fan film for people who couldn’t just leave things to their imagination. And while there was a lot to like about it, for the most part, it felt like watching three episodes straight of Breaking Bad or Saul where it was filler that was there to move the plot forward.
This makes for an interesting watch, and it was nice to come back to this world one last time. However, it doesn’t serve much purpose and didn’t need to exist. I liked it, but didn’t love it.
