Damnson... this feels more Manson than Manson.

It was late 2014 - early 2015 when I completely transitioned from MP4 to MKV format when it came to downloading movies, and I downloaded a lot of movies, like a lot 😅. But it was also the time I started exploring indie, underrated, unrated movies with a passion and came across some amazing titles like Deborah Logan, Let Us Prey, Michael King, Atticus Institute, The Banshee Chapter, The Boy (2015), Come Back to Me, and many more. And it all started with Last Shift (and what attracted me to it was the poster, I have a thing for possessed women crawling like that, which is why I kind of like Devil Seed (2012) too 😂).

So, the plot opens with Jessica Loren, who’s tasked with taking the last shift at a police station before it’s permanently closed, a shift that quickly turns into a nightmare. You know the phrase "baptism by fire"? This is more like baptism by hellfire, in every sense of the word. I can’t even begin to tell you how beautifully paced and crafted the entire plot is. Generally, in settings like this, the movie is just filled with scares from start to finish, and hardly any emphasis is given to the story, especially when it comes to exploring it's different branches. This one’s packed with a ton of scares too, but they’re placed throughout the narrative in such a way that an actual story is told, not just from one, but multiple perspectives. Because of these layers, it eliminates another problem, which is predictability. And sure, you can predict a few things here, but my issue in movies isn’t that things become predictable, it’s the laziness in approaching that moment with no creativity or effort that pisses me off. But this one is just so good in its approach.

Seeing a movie like this sitting at an average of 2.8 on LB and 5.8 on IMDb is just sad. This deserves at least a 0.3 lift. And i know for a fact if this movie had come out after 2020, it would be a lot more popular and praised. Overall, I’d say Anthony DiBlasi is a great director. Even his past works like Casadaga and Dread were above average and rewatchable. He definitely deserves a shot with bigger studios. The man has vision and can actually think for a change, unlike some hacks who just keep serving up freezer-burned crap. And no, I'm not looking at Michael Chaves you are....

The Nun II, 2023 - ★ https://letterboxd.com/xene/film/the-nun-ii/ letterboxd-review-682186214 Tue, 1 Oct 2024 12:22:24 +1300 2024-09-30 Yes The Nun II 2023 1.0 968051 <![CDATA[

All this for useless eye transplants.

You know what? The final 10 minutes or so of this movie were actually good, but saying that would be pretty similar to a guy who, under the influence of alcohol, brutally crashes his friend's brand new car to a point where people at the location of the accident are surprised as to how he even survived with barely a scratch. And then, the next day, that same guy looks at the car, then for some reason looks at the spare tire and says, "At least this is still brand new..." 🦗🦗🦗

So, the story continues four years after the original flick, set in France, and right off the bat, the ball starts rolling as you witness a priest go up in flames mid-air. Fast forward to Sister Irene, who is visited by one of the big bosses of the Vatican. He informs her about a series of deaths in different parts of Europe and wants her to investigate. Since Burke from the first movie passed away, these geniuses decide that there’s no one else competent enough left in the whole of Europe. Now, this mind-blowing moment reminded me of those YouTube videos where a smartass goes around asking Gen Z kids in the USA a bunch of questions to prove how dumb they are since they can’t answer them properly. And you know what? I don’t know about this Gen Z lot, but if you asked this bunch in the room how many countries there are in Europe, these motherfuckers would surely go, "Isn't Europe its own country?" And if you cross-question them about Hungary, France, Austria, they'd go, "They're like... places... in Europe, duh..." 💀

Because your brain has to be overflowing with a shit ton of stupid serum if you think and want others to believe that in the 1950s, there were just a handful of competent priests or nuns present in a continent where the predominant religion was Christianity, at least in the 1950s! And let's just say it was true what about South America, Africa, Asia? Or did you just rocket-launch all of them to different countries with an agenda to convert everyone in the name of Christ? No...no.. no it was helping the needy in the name of Christ, and they just accepted Jesus. Yes, that's the version we're going with. I... I mean, that’s what actually happened. Forget all that I said above, 10 Hail Marys for me 🙃.

Also, how many times are you going to throw in a novitiate who hasn't taken her vows and is going through that same old "I don't know if I believe in God or not, and I want to believe but I can't" type of shit? I mean, it's a good way to develop character, but Lord Michael doesn't give a fuck about real character development, does he? According to him, character development means just moving the actors from one place to another without any meaningful interaction that would get the audience invested and make them care. Instead, just throw them into the finale and make them say out loud, "IT'S A MIRACLE, SISTER IRENE, AND NOW I BELIEVE." Oh, fuck... it's a miracle, y'all... let's all bow down and fart... sorry I meant clap for Michael fucking Chaves.

Just in case you're even more drunk than me while reading this and can’t comprehend what I just said, Storm Reid plays a character that can be defined as a supporting role to a character who is playing a supporting role to another character who is playing a supporting role to the lead actress in a slasher, where Storm's the one who probably dies in the background in the lamest way possible and is forgotten mid-movie. That's the type of impact Sister Debra has in this movie. Then again, what did Joey King achieve even after appearing in one of the best movies of this franchise? Oh yeah, sorry, I forgot about that critically acclaimed and highly successful trilogy The Kissing Booth, that earned billions... my bad.

But other than this, what actually happens in the movie is the question I'm always left with even after a rewatch. The answer to that would be... DILDO HAPPENS, DILDO! The entire movie is filled with nonsensical and dumb scares that milk as much as they can from Valak. By the way, in the span of three movies, Bonnie's makeup keeps getting worse. And what the fuck is with this desperate attempt to somehow connect this one with The Conjuring 2 by literally copy-pasting the entire iconic stills from that movie? Why... are you so hell-bent on turning everything I love into shit, Dildo King Michael, why?...

Now, on a very serious note, this movie is only going to succeed or be considered good if the finale actually ends with Irene and her team facing a soul-crushing defeat. I've written about it in my The Nun 2017 review, and it becomes even more crucial to implement this defeat after the reveal in that movie where the Warrens are performing an exorcism on Frenchie. I mean, think logically why would all this relic Eyes of Saint Lucy shit even matter, especially when Valak successfully got its eye transplant and all. Like, what are you even trying to prove with any of this? Why should anyone care if you're not even going to put in actual effort into your story?

The fact that I predicted long before this movie even came out that it was going to be shit, a prediction solidified even more when Chaves was chosen for the project, is not something I'm proud of. I've always wanted Valak to get the best story possible and make a long-lasting impact on horror cinema. And in between all of this, the only person really getting abused is Bonnie Aarons. People need to understand that she is not some freak. Yes, she has very sharp features, but she deserves to be treated like a real actor with a proper role, not as a prop. Watching all of this is truly heartbreaking, is all I can say.

Hellraiser, 2022 - ½ https://letterboxd.com/xene/film/hellraiser-2022/ letterboxd-review-681505503 Mon, 30 Sep 2024 12:10:25 +1300 2024-09-30 Yes Hellraiser 2022 0.5 338947 <![CDATA[

One of these days, I'm gonna kill myself.

On Saturday early morning, I decided to invite my friends over for the weekend. It had been a while since we all hung out, and this was our first gathering at my new place. The initial plan was to stay in and watch the 2nd test match, but since it was still raining and the day got called off, we just sat around talking about random stuff. One of my friends started poking around on my PlayStation, and we ended up scrolling through the media section. Out of 96 or so movies, for some reason, I went, "Yeah, let’s watch Hellraiser," thinking it was the original. Ten seconds in, I realized my mistake and said, "Let’s watch something else." But almost everyone insisted, "No, no, let’s watch this. We haven’t seen the remake."

And that’s how you end up playing a game of "Would You Rather" with yourself: Would you rather rewatch this entire movie with your friends, or jump off the balcony of your new apartment? I should’ve picked the latter... 🥲

First things first, I’d like to apologize to Rick Bota for constantly making fun of him and being too harsh. Our guy Rick assaulted this franchise in portions, slowly over multiple movies. But this motherfucker didn’t just kill it, he violated its soul. Even after the thing was dead, he kept poking it, asking the same question over and over again: “Hey, are you dead? Are you sure you’re dead? But are you dead, though?” Still, I’m pretty sure this was heavily influenced by the installments that came out after the first two movies, so sorry but not sorry, Rick. And fuck you again.

The movie opens with your standard day in a Hellraiser flick, someone gifts/gives something in a box, and that something (aka the cube) claims its first victim while hinting at where the plot will go. Fast forward, and we’re introduced to Riley, a lazy, kind-of-recovering drug addict and recently homeless (which she deserved, by the way), who decides to "get her shit together" by finding a job that pays more. And what job might that be? Oh yeah, rob someone... 😑. And you guessed it, it’s the cube. So, all hopped up on drugs, she starts messing around with the cube in a park. Then Pinhead appears (this is the exact moment when the moron train starts, and trust me, it goes from 0 to 200 km/h in a heartbeat). On a normal day, Pinhead would just claim her right there no questions asked. But this genius, for some reason, goes, "You slay, bitch... I’m gonna claim your brother instead." 😵‍💫 WHYYYYY? WHY, YOU DICKHEAD? Where are you from, the underworld or fucking Daily Wire, you bald Matt Walsh.

These things pretending to be cenobites are anything but. They hardly function as priests of Leviathan, and more like the mafia. What do you mean with all this “You do this for us, and we’ll do this for you” (said in a Russian accent). Since when did you start negotiating with your victims on subscription plans, Lament Plus, Leviathan Pro Plus Plus... 💀 What is this, Cenobites LL Fucking C? And since when did the cube turn into a literal weapon you can stab someone with to mark them as a target. And I mean mark anyone, even the cenobites themselves 🥴. What else are you gonna do to an entity that’s already one of you and can’t feel anything, give them a spa in a furnace or a full-body mani-pedi in a stone crusher.

And what’s up with being able to stop the cenobites with traps or doors? Last I checked, they could appear anywhere they wanted. And let’s just say you did find a way to imprison them in that lame-ass mansion-turned-cube you know a house is a three-dimensional object, right you moron...? Your base is still just concrete and cement. All of this is beyond brain-dead, and I’m not even exaggerating.

And what the fuck is up with that antique art collector guy? The way he was introduced made it seem like he knew almost everything about how the underworld or at least the cenobites functioned. How the fuck does he not know that even if, for some reason, he could control the cenobites or at least make them listen, it’s always gonna end in an eternity of pain and suffering. This is just pure nonsense and unnecessary brain rot that goes on for two fucking hours. Even if you ignore everything that I said above, a Hellraiser movie has no right to be this long no matter what. It’s a crime at this point.

So, the movie ended, and everyone started giving their thoughts. Most of them kind of liked it, but one of them looked at me, and we both went, “What the fuck was this shit? 😂" And then the argument started.

In our group of six friends, we've known each other for a really long time, some even since we were little kids. Naturally, we argue a lot almost every other day and we love it. But this group also represents the type of audience that would have watched this movie. Me and one of my oldest friends, who has seen all the Hellraiser movies, were on the same page. The others had either watched the original or one or two movies here and there, or were first-time watchers of anything from the franchise. Their opinion was, “It’s not that bad. You’re allowed to explore things how you want to and provide a breath of fresh air.” And sure, I’m all for that and matter of fact Inferno is a great example of how to do it. But that doesn’t mean you can just do anything with it. There are a set of rules laid out in the first two movies, especially the second one, which is why it’s the most important film of the franchise.

Let me break down something basic with an example. Imagine our golden boy Keanu Reeves came into contact with that cube and tried to open it, just to see what’s inside. Then the cenobites appear, one might say, “Oh, they should spare him, He’s such a nice guy.” But the cenobites don’t function that way, they’re going to claim you, no matter how saintly you are. Similarly, let’s say Keanu pointed a gun at one of “THE... Island People” and forced them to open the cube. The cenobites would still claim Keanu because he manipulated someone against their will. Sure, something horrible might happen to The Island People too, because... obviously they deserve it. But that’s up to the cenobites. It’s all about that particular moment, and the cenobites follow a set of rules. But what we have here are some assholes just going about shit as per God knows whose convenience. They don’t stand for anything, and that’s their biggest flaw. When you don’t stand for anything concrete, you’re not the Pinhead I fell in love with years ago, you’re just a round-headed pincushion. In the end all I can say is, FUCK OFF FILM.

Now, while I’m at it and there’s still one more day left in the month, I’m gonna end it with the work of the biggest dumpster fire of a guy named Michael Chaves next. Then I’ll go on a month-long spree of 4-plus star movies, because now I need to balance that ever-tilting scale back to the right.

Mourning Grave, 2014 - ★★½ https://letterboxd.com/xene/film/mourning-grave/ letterboxd-review-680667496 Sun, 29 Sep 2024 11:32:06 +1300 2024-09-29 No Mourning Grave 2014 2.5 284063 <![CDATA[

Living with the Dead.

Mourning Grave follows Kang In-soo, a high school student burdened with the ability to see ghosts, which has made it difficult for him to fit in. His struggle with this unsettling gift, paired with a deep-seated guilt and regret, leads him to seek solace by moving to a rural town outside of Seoul, where he first discovered his abilities as a child, during a traumatic incident at school.

Living with his uncle, who shares his supernatural abilities, In-soo hopes for a fresh start. However, his past seems determined to follow him. In-soo’s struggle to fit in is mirrored by the experiences of other students at his new school, who are constantly bullied by a group of ruthless classmates. There’s a poignant parallel between In-soo’s isolation and the alienation faced by these bullied students, highlighting the pervasive nature of loneliness and the desire for acceptance.

Despite the film’s strong premise and intriguing setup, it never quite reaches its full potential. The interactions between In-soo and his uncle were the highlights of the story, infusing the narrative with a charming blend of humor and supernatural elements. In fact, these moments have the potential to be spun into an entirely separate comedy-horror flick. However, by trying to juggle so many genres the movie ends up feeling disjointed and unfocused.

The biggest disappointment comes in the form of its finale. The climax drags on unnecessarily as if the filmmakers were trying to meet a certain runtime rather than focusing on telling a tight, impactful story. The scenes involving the ghost’s revenge were rushed, with much of the action happening off-screen. This takes away from the suspense and impact that these moments could have had.

While the film's mix of comedy, drama, and horror is not inherently a flaw, the execution falls short. The narrative could have been much more impactful had it focused more on developing its core storyline and exploring its thematic branches in a more thought-provoking manner. For instance, delving deeper into the consequences of In-soo’s gift what it means to carry such a burden and how it shapes his worldview would have provided a more compelling emotional arc.

Overall, Mourning Grave is a decent movie with an interesting premise, but it suffers from uneven pacing and an inability to tie its themes together cohesively. However, it leaves us with a lingering question, When does a gift become a curse? Can someone truly live with such a burden, or are they destined to be haunted by it forever?

Holy Emy, 2021 - ★★★★ https://letterboxd.com/xene/film/holy-emy/ letterboxd-review-679980409 Sat, 28 Sep 2024 11:19:41 +1200 2024-09-28 Yes Holy Emy 2021 4.0 846796 <![CDATA[

But No One Ever Asked Emy What She Really Wants.

Watching Holy Emy (2021) feels like unraveling a complex tapestry woven with spirituality, cultural identity, and the challenges of immigrant life. The film brought back memories of those fascinating documentaries about faith healers I saw on the Discovery Channel in the mid-2000s, particularly those from the Philippines, known for performing miraculous cures through something called psychic surgery. If you’re curious to learn more, you can check out Harvey Martin’s book, Wonder Healers of the Philippines, or find similar documentaries on YouTube.

Emy, the younger of two sisters, finds herself at the center of a community that sees her as either a blessing or a threat. Her abilities attract unwanted attention from the local church and a mysterious woman named Maria, mirroring the way society often reacts to those who don't fit neatly into its predefined roles. It’s a situation many of us can relate to, that moment when you realize people have already decided who you are and what you should become, based solely on their limited understanding of you. The second you step outside that box, the judgment starts pouring in, and you’re forced to either conform or rebel.

Teresa, Emy’s older sister, is a character laden with her own burdens. Pregnant and grappling with a relationship that seems built on shaky ground, she’s trapped in a cycle of choices she may not have fully understood when she made them. Her protectiveness towards Emy stems from more than just sibling responsibility; it’s born from a deep-seated fear that the world, with its harsh judgments and unyielding demands, will chew Emy up and spit her out. But as Teresa struggles to keep Emy safe, she’s also contending with her own naivety and the brutal consequences of trusting too easily. It’s a poignant reminder that sometimes, those who protect us the fiercest are the ones who feel most vulnerable themselves.

The film paints a vivid picture of the sisters’ internal and external battles, drawing you into their world with a narrative that refuses to simplify their complex realities. We see Emy, caught between her gifts and the expectations imposed on her, constantly asked to choose between who she is and who others want her to be. And yet, the question that lingers throughout the film remains unanswered: What does Emy want?

Holy Emy is more than just a story of mystical powers or immigrant struggles; it’s a deeply human exploration of the identities we’re born with and the ones we choose. The sisters’ journey, filled with moments of tenderness, fear, and resilience, serves as a reminder that the most significant battles are often the ones fought within. It’s a film that resonates on a personal level, challenging us to reflect on our own lives and the ways we’ve been pushed to conform or dared to defy. In the end, it’s not about whether Emy conforms or rebels; it’s about her finding the courage to decide for herself, in a world that rarely offers such freedom.

If Matvei had a brother like mine, things might have turned out differently for him or... maybe not.

My older cousin is probably one of the smartest people I know, but for fuck's sake, he’s never given me any useful advice except for this one time. Almost a decade ago, after we finished school, we were hanging out at his place when he suddenly said, “Whenever you’re dropping your girlfriend home, and if her parents invite you in for a glass of water or something, just say, yes. Also, try to make this happen as early as possible when you start dating someone.”

I asked him why, and he just shrugged it off, saying, “Get to know them, nothing more.” I knew there was more to it, but I didn’t press further. At that time, I was single, so I didn't think much of it.

Fast forward 10 or 11 months, I started dating someone. One evening, she asked me to drop her home. As we reached her place, she asked if I wanted to come in and say hi to her parents. I declined, saying I was tired and would meet them some other day. Just as she turned to walk away, her father came out and insisted, “Come in, don’t go like that.”

I don't know what the fuck kind of supernatural state i was in, but time literally slowed down to a crawl for a second. I jumped out of my car like I was dying to meet her father. I ended up spending almost three hours talking to him and her mom. The entire time, she looked at me like her head was going to explode and tentacles were about to sprout from it.

That was the first time she got really mad, and the reasons were as follows:

1. “Why the fuck did you eat so much? I thought you were full a moment ago.”

2. “I thought you were tired and sleepy. What happened there? You never talk to my friends that much when we meet.” (To be honest, her friends are as dumb as mine. A simple “hmm,” “ok,” or “sure” are enough to answer all their questions.)

3. “And what was that about ‘Yeah, I’d love to go on a weekend trekking trip with you, uncle’? You don’t even answer my calls on weekends until you emerge from your temporary coma at 3 in the afternoon you dickhead.”

There were a few more things she was upset about, but I can’t remember them now. The point is, she wasn’t happy. Perhaps because I actually followed through on all the promises I made to her father! 😂

As for Matvei, he wasn’t as lucky, smart, or equipped with a brother like mine. Otherwise, over a friendly conversation while sipping tea, he could’ve asked Olya’s father how much he benches to gauge how hard he could hit or swing a fucking TV at his face. He might have casually inquired about the number of guns he had, his skill with power tools, or even whether his handcuffs were standard issue or fucking imported. Or, in true Russian fashion, he could have simply asked how crazy his daughter was and whether it was manageable. Maybe then he could have avoided the fate of breaking his personal best of 12 minutes in the empty…💀 at least, he should have tried.

In short, “Why Don’t You Just Die” is one of the best dark comedies of all time. The pacing, in my opinion, sets a golden standard. This was my fifth watch, and it still feels like the first time.

Oh and ya, a year or so ago, I asked my cousin why he gave me that advice. He said, “Remember I was dating a girl back then? One day, I randomly joined her family for tea and her father asked, ‘So, are you friends with her boyfriend?’ He was confused at first, but as the conversation went on, he found out she was double dating and had told her family that he was her best friend 🤣. I know it isn't funny, but every time I think about it, I can’t help laughing my ass off 🤣.

This silence is deafening.

Anytime between the late 1990s and early 2000s, there was this horror show called Aahat. It was pretty popular at that time and was really good too. There was an episode I can’t fully recall but sort of remember in glimpses. In it, there’s a crystal ball that fulfills any of your wishes, but it also takes something back from you. So there is this guy who loses his father because of it. Later, he finds out that his father didn’t leave any property behind for him, so either he or his wife asks the crystal ball to resurrect his father. The way the father returns was so horrific, he was in the same state as he died, with all his limbs barely intact to his body, full of rage. That image, or rather the entire sequence, stuck with me to this day.

With everything that has happened in my personal life, I used to think at times, "I’d give anything to have the people I loved back, no matter what." But that thought slowly faded away as I realized it was their time to go. Holding onto that kind of desire would only rot me from within, making me bitter as time passed.

Something similar is witnessed here, this is a very toned-down and grounded take on the zombie subgenre. And boy, was this powerful and effective. With barely any dialogue, the film skillfully drained every moment with silence and subtle actions. We watch as family members of the resurrected try to normalize their situation, content with the idea of being reunited with their loved one. But deep down, they know that things are not the same... they are not the same... they are not human anymore. And to nail this point, there’s a scene with a pet rabbit toward the finale, and every second of it feels like an eternity. All you want is for the suffering to just end, no matter how just end. You can’t help but feel that you’d rather spend the remaining journey in grim silence than witness that again.

Ultimately, Handling the Undead serves as a haunting reminder that some things, once gone, are best left to rest. The silence in the film mirrors the quiet acceptance we eventually must reach in life letting go is not forgetting, but understanding that some chapters cannot be rewritten. In the end, it’s the pain of holding on that haunts us, not the memory of those we’ve lost.

This review may contain spoilers.

Blink twice when you sense plot conveniences.
Me: "Ooh, fuck... I think my eyelids are malfunctioning."

Spoilers ahead... I guess... You’ve been warned.

What kind of workplace allows servers to just change their work clothes, wear a dress, and casually join the very gathering they're supposed to be working at, not the one next door or across the street but the very fucking party they’re meant to serve at. And for some reason, there's no manager or supervisor around, despite him being all over their asses just moments ago. One of them even spilled a drink on a guest and later tripped, breaking a glass and was bleeding all over the place. Yet, not a single staff member comes up to say, “WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TWO DOING HERE… GET BACK TO WORK!” I guess America really is different from the rest of the world. But honestly, this isn’t that big of a deal because from here on, the ball starts rolling nicely, and everything ends well. Great movie, highly recommend. 4.5 out of 5 stars… BIEEEeee.

But then again, something in my head said maybe I should rewatch it just to refresh my memory before writing this review.

And then around the halfway mark, when Frida finds the knife and the Alpha chick shows up at her door with the lighter, I went: What the fuck is up with this drug...

So you’re telling me it allows you to forget all your traumatic experiences, except that’s clearly not the case, because they forgot about Jess, but that Alpha chick still remembered where and how she met the guy who brought her here an event that occurred well before she met Jess. Also, how does this drug even works as a perfume, does it only work if it’s in direct contact with your skin, or can the fumes/smell also affect you? (Hint: the vape scene from the finale.) If it's the latter, it’s hard to believe that none of the men ever inhaled even a hint of it by mistake, i mean they're constantly surrounded by women, especially at night, drunk and filled with drugs it's hard not to be sloppy.

And don’t even get me started on the antidote/snake venom thing. Sure, I know snake venom is a thing in some underground rave scenes, but taking venom shots like tequila... really... Forget it being an antidote why are your internal organs still functioning normally? And no... nosebleed isn't working for me Fuck no! These women were beaten and assaulted for at least two nights in a row, maybe more. How do none of them have cuts in their mouths that would absorb the venom and send them on a one-way trip to heaven.

Speaking of injuries, do the filmmakers even understand what sexual assault entails? How are there no genital injuries on any of these women? Forget the drug they should’ve been alarmed the very next morning after Night One.

Everything I’ve just pointed out reeks of poorly placed plot conveniences thrown into the story without much thought, making the entire narrative feel lazy and ugly.

Also, why have such a large cast if you’re not going to do anything with most of them? If it were up to me, I’d have divided the cast into pairs or maybe trios, where each night we’d get to learn why each man is there, adding sinister little tales as they reveal their demonic intentions, fueled with tripping visuals bringing that true essence of psychological horror, now that would’ve been kickass! Because I want to hate these men with every fibre of my being not just because they’re committing vile acts, but because I understand their intentions and they terrify me.

Overall, it’s a very okay-ish movie that had the potential to be a great psychological horror flick.

But let me leave you with a thought: in an alternate universe, this is one of the best psychological horror films ever made. It starts with a disclaimer: "Based on true events," and ends with snapshots of the real "Island Boys."

Yes, It's a Biased Review.

In the past year and a half, I haven't experienced as many moments of anxiety and stress putting me on edge, but I remember a time when they would hit me at least once a day, often triggered by my good old 'friend,' OCD. I'm not someone who easily shares feelings, emotions, or my past with others, even with those close to me. It's a fact that anxiety, especially when driven by OCD, can ease up if you talk about what's on your mind, but I don't do that often. For one, I don't have many close people in my life other than my girlfriend and a few relatives. Secondly, I've had trust issues my entire life. So, when I go through these phases, I prefer taking long walks or cycling. But during the monsoon, when outdoor activities are limited, I keep my nerves calm by constantly listening to lo-fi beats at home or while driving. It's one of the best things for me on YouTube. This movie gives me the same sense of relief and calmness when I'm burned out or on edge.

The location where this movie is shot is simply blissful, heartwarming, and comforting. The contrast between the serene scenery and the dark, sinister elements lurking beneath makes it all the more relatable. It reminds me of the people we see around us many appear happy, calm, and going about their day, but we can't see the battles they fight inside, the fears they carry, or the secrets hidden behind their smiles.

Yes, the movie has flaws or rather, things that could have been better. For instance, the story could have delved deeper into the mother's past as she starts losing her mind after noticing changes in her child's behavior, blurring the lines between her pretty face and the scars of an abusive past, giving the character a much needed emotional weight. The finale, too, could have been more intense, violent, and bloody.

Yet, I appreciate this movie for its simplicity. It delivers at a decent pace with some genuinely well-crafted scares, rather than trying to be overly clever with unnecessary twists like many psychological horror movies do these days and often fail at. Because to be honest I don’t want to go through mental gymnastics every time I watch a horror flick. Sometimes, it's perfectly fine for a movie to be mediocre, not "mediocre at best," but one of the finest mediocre films in recent times.

With that stance on the wall, that kid deserves a shot at a live-action Miles Morales role! 🤣

There's a scene about halfway through the movie where the mother is being questioned by child protective services and when asked, "In the past six months, have you had any drugs or alcohol?" she answers "no" a couple of times, then adds, "Does weed count?" 😂😂 That moment sums up my entire sentiment toward this movie. I was genuinely interested in exploring their personal lives and the struggles the mother has been through, which have impacted how strictly she raises her children. It's both engaging and interesting, but just when you want the film to stay serious, it does something ridiculous that turns it into a mockery especially when it comes to the horror elements.

First of all, nothing here feels original or unique; it's all been done before. The horror parts are cheesy, and you can't help but roll your eyes. This isn't one of those movies where you can say "it's so bad, it's good," like the laugh riot "The Exorcism of God" (2021), because the subject matter is actually serious but when the demon acts like it's straight out of the hood, it's hard not to laugh at it all.

The exorcism/demonic possession subgenre is really hard to pull off, in my opinion. If you want your audience to take it seriously, you have to fully commit, leaving little to no room for error. Still, if you're looking for something to kill time, this could work.

This review may contain spoilers.

It's Tough to Decide Which is Worse: This or The Happening.

It's movies like these that force me to act on my darkest impulses and write an entire review full of spoilers without any warning. But since it's been a month since I last posted anything, I suppose I can manage a bit of decency. And now, since you've clicked on "I Can Handle the Truth," here we go... the truth is that the creature was a dumb fart. Let me explain why.

The movie opens with Mina, a pet store employee, vaping inside the store while watching the news about how excessive tree-cutting has severely impacted the region's wildlife. From this scene, it's clear this will be a commentary on how humans have seriously messed up and are now paying the price. Well, not exactly in this story's context, but you can derive a similar message from the overall narrative. To be fair, that's the only positive thing, the messaging isn't too on the nose. But that's where the positives end. Everything else is just shit.

Now, while I love to brag about what I'm good at, I also suck at a few things, and reading Google Maps is one of them. So, I'm happy to be corrected if my criticism is flawed, but if not, then let the legends be written under my name: "Why It's Easy to Get Confused at a Three/Four-Way Intersection EVERY FUCKING TIME" 🤣. When Mina is tasked with taking a bird to the zoo, she drives down a simple two-lane road that somehow leads her into a forest.... Tell me, is it normal for zoos or towns to be located in a place only accessible through a forest? OK, let's say it is; that would mean people must come from the other side too, right? So, how come they didn’t disappear like Mina? There must be tons of cases like this, with the area sealed off to the general public. Or let’s assume Mina took a wrong turn into the forest. How deep do you have to drive, you dumb bitch, to realize that YOU ARE LOST? Forget the mysterious phenomenon under normal circumstances too, why would you even assume there'd be people living there who could help you if your tire got stuck in the mud or you had a flat?

Then we have Madeline and her two pals mentioning barriers or markings all over the forest that supposedly form a perfect circle. If you cross that circle, the forest messes with your head. You see those markings in a few places, but there’s no string or barbed wire connecting them, nothing to help you stay within that "circle." Do the people who wrote this script even realize how hard it is to walk in a straight line in a dense forest, let alone follow a "perfect circle"? All this environment-building is just on paper and has no practical basis. It’s pulled straight from some urban princess's ass, someone who's never stepped foot in the wild or rural areas or at least has never been asked to navigate without Google or "Siri", By the way, your iPhone's battery died two hours ago; now shove that stupid phone up your ass. And to those people who loved the cinematography, what good is all that when the story's foundation is built on flimsy, nonsensical information that falls apart the moment you start questioning it.

Moving on, what’s the point of creating a bunker for your "research" with a glass wall that turns into a one-way reflective mirror at night when the creatures actually come out? Were you born a moron, or did you decide to do this to make people on Letterboxd write "THIS IS CINEMA"...😑 Let's just skip over that because, honestly, you’ll only focus on these things if you're degenerate enough, like me, to watch this movie three times. On my first watch, I was fine with most things because it moved at a decent pace like any other average creature horror. But when we get to the finale, and Madeline/The Creature starts revealing its true intentions, it’s hard not to notice how utterly fucking dumb it all is.

So, the creature is different from the rest because it's half human and half monster, treated differently by its fellow watchers. And when the Professor traps it "in the underground bunker," it knows where the entry and exit are. So why didn’t it just lead other lost humans straight to it? Why are you stalling, you dumb fuck... OK, let's say you want to study humans and learn their ways, but for how long, are you planning to learn how to file your taxes too? And since you already know you can survive in daylight, just keep walking in a straight line everyday like that "perfect circle" and you'll reach civilization eventually. You don’t have to wait for "educated" Dakota Fanning to accidentally access the bunker and find a way to escape the forest by following the birds. And what the hell are you going to do after escaping, anyway. Lead a miserable life like the rest of us humans.

It's infuriating to even talk about this movie, let alone write a review. What type of people are working in the film industry these days, Does anyone even proofread it before giving it the green light? Or was everyone just like, "Ooo, it’s M. Night 'I See Dead People' Shyamalan’s daughter, so let’s just start working on it, it can’t be as bad as The Happening... Right, y'all... right... right...🙃"

On a serious note, I don’t understand why it’s so hard for filmmakers to flip their perspective and see things from another angle. It would have been a much better movie if told from the POV of the creature trying to earn its place among the watchers but being shunned for being different. Out of sheer anger and a desire to prove its worth, it starts trapping humans like they once trapped and hunted these creatures, experimenting on them. A narrative like that could be brutal and gory but also carry emotional weight. How this story concludes would depend on how creative you are a story with actual originality and personality. Or... you could have turned it into an origin story for Tweety from The Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries and why it loved being domesticated. I mean, if I had witnessed dummies like these fucking around in the forest, I'd be traumatized too.

THIS FUCKING.... MOVIE....
AND HERE IS ITS RATING - (5/5)🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕

Whoever greenlit this project and its funding should be demoted to window cleaner, tethered to a harness held by the person who hired them, without any pulley. That's the only way these people will learn what responsibility and accountability mean. Also look at the bright side, they will learn how to create constant tension, understand what uncertainty actually means and experience horror firsthand, allowing them to assess future projects properly before giving them a green light like total morons. Whatever, who cares they might just be planning on hiring Michael Chaves for some overpriced project on the recommendation of a guy who said, "That guy is INSPIRATIONAL"🤢🤮.

Anyway, let's get to the movie and wrap this up.

There are predictable movies, and then there's this. If you can't predict the sequence of each character's death and that shitty twist at the end, you might as well be a character in this film. The movie begins with a group of friends celebrating the birthday of one of their friends in a big mansion they rented.

By the way, these people are not just dumb but rich too. I say there should be no free college for them (what's the status of this, by the way? Was Biden able to implement it or not? Let me know), and if they protest, just point them towards Kamala. She's gonna tell them what's up... with her phrase, "WHAT CAN BE UNBURDENED BY WHAT HAS BEEN." 🤣🤣 (And ayeee..., no need to fight on Biden/Kamala/Trump in here. I'm not even American; I just follow your politics. It's pretty entertaining, to be honest.)

So they start snooping around and the group discovers a small box adorned with a pentagram and various symbols, containing a creepy deck of Tarot cards. So naturally, the birthday girl says, "Let's get fucked by it, y'all, it's my birthday! Don't you wanna die for no reason... pretty please..." I mean, what will it take for these characters to avoid acting on dumb impulses? A sign that explicitly says, "DO NOT READ WHAT'S WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK OR ELSE YOU ARE GONNA UNLEASH AN ANCIENT DEMONIC SPIRIT THAT WILL ONLY REST ONCE IT CLAIMS ALL OF YOUR SOULS." (Don't you people dare take below-the-belt shots at Eric and call out my hypocrisy; that guy is a legend and I'm gonna defend his actions for the rest of my life. ALL HAIL EVIL DEAD.)

But let's give this a pass because you have to fuck up one way or another to get the ball rolling. Now, I can tell you with confidence that when they were working on this project, "Final Destination" must have been discussed to get some inspiration or ideas. I can also tell you these are exactly the type of people who spend all their time on their phones and would only look at the screen to touch base with the deaths. In the end, they'll say shit like, "OMG... that was LITERALLY... the best experience ever...." And if you try to start a discussion on it, the reply will be, "It's just some violent sequences; who cares?" Who's gonna tell them that the "Final Destination" movies, despite having similar openings, work so well because of how they craft those horrific death scenes? The unpredictability and suddenness of how it happens were their USP.

I expected something similar here, but the amount of laziness and lack of effort you see just draws you out of the moment every single time. There is nothing to look forward to or get excited about. Forget creativity even the violence and bloodshed on screen is lame. All you are left with is a bunch of boring ass people dragging their boring asses from one place to another, trying their best to be interesting with whatever acting skills they have, and failing miserably. (That includes you too, Jacob "Spider-Man's Bestie." Good luck playing the same character for the rest of your life.) Their entire focus is on dying as soon as possible and ending the movie by saying, "Fuck Fate." To which I replied, "NO, FUCK YOU."

And... after this, I watched "The Watchers." 💀 So, fuck me too...

Never have I thought that a question like 'What is your body count?' could be so meaningful.

After years of searching for the name of this movie, I finally had the pleasure of rewatching it yesterday, all thanks to Katia_aitak. Despite the frustration of not being able to find it for so long but remembering most of its story and almost all the twists, I still cherished this feeling because when I first watched it I had zero expectations, and it turned out to be far better than I could have anticipated and because of that I kind of knew the chances of disappointment on a rewatch were high.

Now even though it wasn't as spectacular the second time around, I am still satisfied with how it held up. Before delving into the negatives, let's talk about why it's soo... good and why I found myself grinning like a fool at times. For a low-budget, straight to DVD... sorry, straight to YouTube movie 😂 (yeah, it's on YouTube for free), it boasts a compelling story that is well-paced and keeps you invested throughout. The violent and disturbing scenes, though mostly off-camera, are executed effectively and leave a lasting impact. By the way, what the fuck was the father in the opening scene up to with the boy's mother with all those deep cuts on her body? Is this what getting addicted to Fruit Ninja looks like? Lastly, the way the twists and mysteries unfold remains impressive, even today, however, this is also where the problems begin.

To maintain its impact on a rewatch, a film like this needs truly skilled actors. Unfortunately, the cast here is, at best, just OK. The repeated scenes of the girl waking up hyperventilating start to feel cheap after a while, and several other moments throughout the movie suffer from poor direction and acting. This diminishes the impact of the twists on subsequent viewings. Additionally, the antagonist's arc, initially suggests he became twisted due to childhood trauma, but later on, you learn that he was messed up even as a child. The child actor is terrific and arguably the best performer in the film, but the actor portraying his adult counterpart is, frankly, underwhelming. Also when you have a killer of this nature, it's essential to invest more in his character development. Simply portraying him as someone who loves to play god isn't sufficient. I understand it's an adaptation of a book, but the transition to the screen could have been handled better.

Overall, this is an excellent movie for first-time viewers, provided they are unaware of the twists, (two minutes of silence for everyone who read my post on "Paint Drying" a few days back 😅, and sorry again).

A Promising Slasher That Fumbles the Basics.

All fictional killers that have ever graced the silver screen are different in their own way, yet they share common traits that provide them with the weight and appreciation they deserve. In slasher movies, while the killer and their iconic methods of killing are often the focal points, the rest of the cast plays an equally crucial role in a film's success. Whether it's the final girl, a stereotypical group of teenagers, or any other characters, they matter as much as the killer, provided they are not merely there to be hacked to death.

However, in this case, that significant other is largely absent. There is an attempt towards the end to build an arc, but it feels mostly meaningless. I understand that this might have been intended as the USP of the movie, and it did work for me initially. However, the film eventually ignores other necessities of being a good slasher flick.

I love extreme horror and over-the-top violence. I was all in when I saw that girl getting folded like a piece of cloth, a skill I desperately need to learn for folding my t-shirts properly 😂. This was probably the high point of the entire flick. It demonstrates the filmmakers' focus on making the movie as gory as possible. But here's the thing, it's not just about being gory and violent. The scene where the officer gets killed is a perfect example of that. Whether it's a nice guy or a bad guy getting chopped into pieces, what impacts the audience is not just the violence, but the screams and the cries for help. This builds a connection with the audience, making you realize that at the end of the day, it's a human being meeting their end. So when you drag a barely conscious guy into a shed and chop his body parts without any reaction from him, it feels hollow and meaningless. It's probably the last 40 minutes that killed the momentum for me and that 20-minute-long final sequence defined the biggest flaw of the movie: unnecessarily stretched scenes. The way that scene started and was paced was one of the best things I've seen in a long time. The tension, suspense, and anxiety were unbearable, but after 10 minutes, it felt like a drag and turned into one of the lowest points of the entire flick.

All I can say is that this was a really good attempt at bringing a new slasher villain to the screen, but it's always best to stick to the basics if you want to succeed in the long term. I would love a sequel, but only if they address the issues mentioned above. And please, fold more people next time!

If anyone asks, just say the neck pillow malfunctioned.

So whenever I go on these breaks especially when I'm working on something time-sensitive, which in this case was getting into a good college for my master’s, I usually download 2 or 3 movies or a TV shows to watch on repeat whenever I need a break at the end of the day. Last time for almost a year, I watched "Silent Hill," "The Hudsucker Proxy," and "Midnight Mass." This time, I chose "Rush" (2013), "It's Kind of a Funny Story" (2010), and, for some godawful reason, "No Way Up" (2024). I watched it four times with friends, twice with my girlfriend (she fell asleep the first time), and once with a co-passenger on a flight who was a really nice man btw. (Just in case you are thinking that I could just have deleted it, yes I could have but my OCD kicked in because things were going well so... I went "let's not touch anything my entire career is on line right now 😅)

Since February, I've travelled a lot—by train, plane, and car, often with friends. See maintaining long-time friendships has its perks, but also drawbacks. For example, they always mention "Final Destination" on flights. Like one of them would go "Are you just OCDing in general or you can sense something is about to happen". I know you must not raise your hand at women but just for once... I want to stab her with a dinner fork on her thigh JUST ONCE... I mean every time letting it all out on the other two just because they are men seems unfair. (then again she also gets a pass because she is an IITan and the smartest of us all "Bhosdi ki Sharma ji ki beti"😂) Despite the annoyances, there is never a dull moment with them they are all genuinely funny and most importantly you can count on them for being productive in case of any emergency. Wish I could say the same about the cast of this movie because fuck me... this is one boring ass flick.

See when it comes to scenarios where a bunch of people are trapped in a small, confined space and you can't really do much to get out of there but wait for help or... you can do a lot but still want to kill screen time because you have to make a feature film out of it....😪, you at least make it a character-driven flick and for that, you need at least one interesting, skilled actor. "No Way Up" had Colm Meaney as a retired army guy, now a bodyguard for a rich family. I watched the movie because of him, but he dies in about 10 minutes. Then, I paused the movie and screamed, "WHAT THE FUCK ARE THOSE TWO YOUNG MEN DOING?" Kyle, despite his injury, was irritating from the start. If he were my friend, I'd strangle him the moment our plane crashed doesn't matter if the chances of survival were 100% or 10% and if someone asked what happened to him I would have said "I guess the neck pillow malfunctioned officer, he mentioned earlier that it's a bit tight". He's the kind of guy who would fuck around just like that girl Misty from the show "Yellowjackets" who destroys the Blackbox of the plane, fucking needy fuck. (BTW I couldn't finish that show, stopped after episode 2 I guess, it was way too bitchy and full of backstabbers, reminded me of Indian daily soaps)

But what the fuck was Jed doing..... that pussy did not move a muscle the entire time and when he did he achieved his weight loss goal according to Kyle 🤢. Ava and the old retired army nurse made some difference, but stupidity peaked when the little girl Rosa suggested that sharks are scared of bubbles, and everyone said yes let's do what she is saying 💀. And this was taught to her in school, God bless the American education system if that's true. In all seriousness, yes it's true but it all depends, I'd say Google it you'll know why it "depends" and why it's an awful idea. I guess the sharks are also actors in this movie or were just annoyed by the fact that something like this exists, there used to be a time when they featured in movies like Jaws and now they have to be scared of fucking bubbles...😑

Overall, this is a terrible flick. If I had watched it just once, I might have said it had potential and given it one star. But after multiple viewings, all I can say is fuck it. Also if you again witness Greta Thunberg getting carried away like a sack of potatoes by two security personnel as she was protesting to save ocean wildlife because she found a teddy bear floating somewhere, direct her to our Bubble Girl Rosa 😂.

Just in case you are interested.... I left the college😁. I actually did got admission into a top HR college, but eight days in, my ex-boss (now he is in NTT DATA) called. He arranged an interview for a Senior Consultant role at Deloitte, with six months of cross-platform SAP/Workday integration training and a really good raise (almost twice of what I'm getting right now). I cleared the interview and accepted the offer. Currently, I'm serving my notice period and will be starting my new job on August 5th. I'm happy with how things turned out, committing two years to a full-time course is tough for me, as an experienced individual you are not used to studying. Plus, I've been dealing with heavy workloads and family responsibilities since COVID began. I want to chill out now, though I know I’ll chase something new after a year or so, but we'll see.

Also, Pro tip: Most of you might already know this, but I wanted to share my experience so you don't make the same mistake I did. When you go through a breakup, try to keep things as amicable as possible. You never know when you might need to approach your ex for help. Like, I could have started working at McKinsey a year ago if my breakup had been smoother. I got a call from them a year ago. Since my ex is a business analyst there, I asked her for a reference, she said sure, and then i never heard back from any of them 😂. For some reason, I think she might have just told HR to pass on my application. Well whatever.

A Day in the Life of the Least Ambitious Demon.

My introduction to American TV series began with "Supernatural". Sure, it had its ups and downs in the form of "season 6 🤢" and that cunt of a finale 🤮, but it was still a really great show that I would easily recommend to anyone new to American TV shows and is a horror fan. It had everything that makes a show perfect. But one aspect that stood out was how it portrayed demons. Each demon had a purpose, whether serving Lucifer or Crowley, the "King of Hell," or simply causing chaos with flair. Over the years, this influenced my thought process and added another chapter in my book of "How I can be a dick about things I don't like and have a reason for it".

Enter "Suitable Flesh," a film centered around psychiatrist Elizabeth Derby and her fixation on a young patient grappling with severe personality disorder. However, it soon leads her into occult danger as she tries to escape a horrific fate...

Fuck this, that's a misleading synopsis.

What actually happens is, Beth becomes obsessed with a young patient not because she wants to help him recover from his personality disorder, but because she wants to fuck him. The plot tries its best to make it look like "Ooh, that demon is controlling her, and that's why she's thinking of another man while fucking her husband". Fuck off, I say. Beth is literally the kind of person who would stream her therapy sessions on Twitch or TikTok and ask questions to her patients that come in the form of super chat. Like, "Okay, so this is a great question... How depressed and low were you feeling when Amouranth stopped selling her jar of bath water and farts? Just relax and say it how you felt; it's just me... and my 2k viewers who wanna know 💀." Oh well, she's still better than Dr. Roxy from Ohio, a plastic surgeon who streamed her surgeries and botched three of her cases 🙄.

Now, as far as the "it soon leads her into occult danger as she tries to escape from a horrific fate" part is concerned, let's grab this demon's dick and do his career counseling. Initially, I thought if the guy who is possessed by a demon fucks someone, it allows him to take over their body (which would have meant that Asa and his father had a sexual intercourse, and that's how Asa was affected, or vice versa 🙄; don't blame me for having an overactive imagination, it really seemed that way 😂, and it would have been great if that actually happened to be honest, the crazier the better). But we later find out that it can take over anyone if he wants to, just by saying an ancient spell or some shit, and that's interesting, but boy you gotta have a bigger motive behind all this, right like claiming as many souls as possible, world domination, or just having the best time being a menace, so you hop on as many bodies as possible, and since you've got that wireless connectivity thing going on, why not become a streamer or something? I mean, with every passing day, it's getting really hard to differentiate between humans and dickheads, look at all the Adin Ross, Neon, Jack Doherty, or Morgpie the "Artist"💀; no one is gonna know shit about your real identity, plus you get to sleep with a bunch of chicks and dudes because one thing was clear: you were high into sex, and I like that 😁. So why waste your time going after Beth, she looks good and all, but there has to be something more than that to put your entire existence into danger.

All jokes aside, the biggest positive has to be the gore and violence part of the movie, and it's really well done. However, these elements could have been more impactful with a stronger motive driving the demon's actions. Alternatively, the storyline could have explored Beth's vengeance against the demon, weaving a tale of personal loss and redemption. With stronger character motivations and a clearer plot trajectory, it could have been a standout horror film. Whatever, fuck it, now I'm gonna go watch a chick giggle her boobs on Twitch, sorry, "watch her express herself in an artistic manner".

After busting my ass daily in the office, studying, and preparing for upcoming college interviews (GDPI) (I got 6 calls, by the way 😁), at the end of the day, all I could think was, "I want to write a review but I'm drained. So let's watch some Jujutsu Kaisen and go to sleep." Even though this past month has been exhausting, I'm still happy with the way things are going. If I manage to convert at least 3 of these 6 calls, I'll be more than satisfied. In short, 2024 has been great so far. And with new things coming in the near future, I think I should focus on making new friends too because the ones I have right now... well... are objectionable. This was the first and only movie I watched this year, and I didn't like it. After almost a month, I had to watch it again because, at my house, my opinion doesn't matter, and I have to comply with what a bunch of degenerates have to say. I was never going to write a review on this, but here we are... fuck.

Did you ever play a game where the side quest was more interesting than the main objective? This is exactly what this movie felt like. Whenever a movie has an alternative reality or time travel arc in it, most of the time, it's poorly crafted, filled with loopholes, and adds nothing significant to the entire story. In the end, it leaves you with a bunch of questions that start with "Why the fuck..., What the fuck..., Who the fuck..." and then you get tired of thinking and say, "Fuck it, who gives a fuck." This is exactly what happens here.

This story is complete garbage when it comes to the killer aspect because it's a dumb mission that has no significant output in the end. But the side quest that is the romance arc of it was somewhat good, and that's what this movie should have been, a Christmas rom-com kind of flick about a girl exploring herself, her sexual identity. And there are, I guess, no such movies if I'm not wrong, so why the fuck did you not make a normal rom-com with a good story instead of this killer shit.

Overall, a dumb flick that could have been something better if it focused on its strengths. Also, why the fuck did Justin Long accept this role, I mean sure he plays such asshole characters well, but have some standards bro.

Let's fix 'Prom Night,' or maybe not... Okay, kinda...🚂🛤👺.

Goddammit, where should I begin? So, someone thought, 'Hey, remember 'Prom Night,' which came out a few months back? Let's make a slasher flick like that... I mean, just like that... with the only difference being that it takes place on a TRAIN... and people like trains, don't you know?'

Mmhmmm
I should file a fucking lawsuit against these people for emotionally manipulating me.

Now, on a more serious note, this wasn't all that bad, even though choices for the antagonist were already narrowed down to a few people, with one being rather obvious. There was a consistent sense of thrill and suspense that propelled the narrative to its conclusion. Having characters like the arrogant 'Doctor' (by the way, these are individuals who lose all their charm and popularity by their late 30s and engage in a series of dubious, deceptive actions to regain popularity and perform trachea transplantation on poor patients who later face complications leading to their passing. All because that dickhead of a doctor faked all his research just to get popular. Do check out 'Dr. Death: Cutthroat Conman'; it's really interesting, and beware of such doctors) also worked in favour of the film, introducing some nuance and unpredictability to the plot.

But the biggest positive has to be the idea of shooting it on a train, particularly during the night, crafting an eerie, haunted-house-like atmosphere throughout the runtime. By the way, this felt more like a Halloween flick than something set on New Year's Eve.

Overall, it's a decent flick, and if it were not shot on a train, I most definitely would have turned it into my personal punching bag, I swear to God.

Also, a very Happy New Year to all my friends on LB; hope you have a banger of a 2024. Love you all ❤️.

Recommend me more movies featuring trains on - Because i love Trains 🚂

Navigating Grief Without a Compass.

Not everyone in our society has the luxury of a good emotional support system, which one not only needs but deserves after the passing of their loved ones, particularly if that person was the only other member of their family left. The necessity for a support system becomes even more critical when the person caring for the patient is isolated in that house or hospital for days, and in some cases years, witnessing their suffering daily with the hope that things will improve one day. And when the patient passes away, the first thing they hear from relatives or anyone close is that 'they are in a better place now, and you should also look forward, forget about all that has happened, and be happy.' To that, I say, 'easier said than done.' Humans aren't robots that you can just flick a switch, and it'll reboot. There is a lot going on in one's mind, which is not just restricted to missing them but also encompasses those past few days spent with them while they were suffering, extending to past memories, both good and bad, that haunt you for days and, in many cases, your entire life. Moving forward isn't as easy as it seems; there is a lot of sadness, guilt, and regrets that stay with you your entire life.

Such is the story of Ezra, who lived with his mother and was the sole caretaker of her as she passed away after a prolonged illness. Although he had a few friends who made him feel like he was still part of their community, they were never deeply emotionally involved with him. This resulted in them being oblivious to his deteriorating mental state as he engaged in some downright demonic acts to cope with his mother's death and act on things she taught him. The fact that this is a true story makes it even more nerve-wracking and disturbing, pointing towards that missing piece of the puzzle that our society has still not been able to fill, even with all the technological and social advancements in our communities. How to fix this, I don't know because I have gone through the same things, but I was lucky enough to have people around me who supported me both mentally and emotionally while respecting my space. The only thing I can suggest is to talk to people and be more emotionally intelligent to assess the situation in the best way possible.

Let's redefine love.

Imagine somehow escaping a toxic relationship and a corrosive work environment, only to be ensnared by an entity, fostering a relationship that proves to be both mentally and physically lethal. Such is the life of Yanka, as she moves from place to place, compelled to subsist on bits and pieces not only for her survival but also for the pest growing within her. Initially reluctant to kill for the entity, Yanka's reservations gradually diminish as she forges an unconventional relationship centered on pleasure and pursuit to alleviate her loneliness. This relationship not only fulfills her but also changes her as a person, turning her into a monster that she once despised in her previous relationship.

Wow, this kind of reminds me of that girl my friend was dating in college who always used to say that she would do something that he'd regret later if he didn't listen to her now, often involving me and a few other friends to persuade him to communicate with her. Those were fucking wild days man... God bless that psycho's second husband... yeah, the first one filed for divorce after 3 years of marriage 🤣🤣. To this day, my shithead of a friend regrets breaking up with her and at times blames us, for not helping him enough in maintaining that relationship. Fucking nut job, why the fuck would I help him in that... I don't want to be blamed for playing a part in someone else's harm because I don't have a bucket list that has "GO TO PRISON FOR RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT OR NEGLIGENT SUPERVISION" as one of my wishes 🤣🤣; I don't know why I have such dumb friends.

This is a really well-made psychological horror that knows how to shift tones and balance emotions by not taking itself seriously all the time, which in turn works in its merit as the audience is also able to connect with the character of Yanka. Rather than viewing the entity as a growing menace to be eradicated, Yanka treats it as a human being with whom she wants to spend her entire life. This serves as a poignant reminder that everyone in this world seeks something or someone to spend their entire life with, being both willing to die and kill for that connection.

This is exactly what excessive use of dildo does to your brain.

So the other night, when I couldn't fall asleep, I got up and started brushing my teeth (this is what I normally do when I can't sleep, I shave, or brush or take a bath in the middle of the night) Then suddenly, a thought occurred that things have been way too slow and boring these past 3 - 4 months; it's just go to the office, study, and repeat. My friends are busy with their stuff, and we haven't been able to hang out properly, and my girlfriend too is acting pretty normal, not starting any long arguments, and the ones that start resolve pretty quickly. Also, she isn't even shoving any "Moonshot" or "Kissing Booth" kind of crap down my throat, which would give me a reason to go on a self-evaluation journey again... Actually, she did suggest those "After" movies, and I kind of ghosted her for 5 hours or something 😅.

In short, I have been looking for something... don't know how to put it but something... and that was one of the reasons why I returned to LB. It's been almost 2 months, but something still felt missing. See, the main reason why I made this account was to shit on bad movies; it's such an amazing feeling to go all psycho over something that you don't like. It gives me almost the same amount of pleasure that a train journey would but in a more cynical manner. Now there have been bad movies because Michael Chaves still exists in our reality, but he still has a long way to go, and I wanna honor his earth-shattering efforts on "The Nun - 2," but not now after I'm done with my exams.

So as I stood in front of the mirror after I was done brushing my teeth and was about to go back to bed (because my dog looked at me with sheer annoyance, like why the fuck is he taking too long for something that should hardly take 2 minutes, just fucking turn the light off and go to bed you degenerate), it reminded me of a dickhead... NO... not me... I mean sure I know I'm a dickhead and never denied that fact, but I'm talking about a legendary dickhead someone I would like to refer to in my future reviews while giving Michael Chaves a breather, and the name of that person is Umberto Lenzi.

Umberto Lenzi's work is the very definition of throwing up all over the canvas and calling it art, and If you question its existence, then you are not invited in the circle jerk of turtleneck-wearing, champagne-popping, French poseurs critics because, unlike you, they graduated from St.DILDO UNIVERSITY OF ANAL ARTS and can tell you why that banana affixed to a wall with duct tape is as important of an art piece as Mona Lisa...🤢🤮 Well, I might not be a professional critic, but I have enough common sense to point out the bullshit. And in this case, this entire thing is a huge fucking pile of faecal matter.

Right from the very opening scene of the movie when those tapes are shown, we see a ritual being performed, and when Sheila rightfully questions what is this? the so-called professor says I don't know. I say burn that degree of yours you fuck. I'll tell you what that was; it's called Thaipusam. It's a festival celebrated by Tamilians around the world but mostly in South Asian countries and has nothing to do with something that is done only by tribals or savages but has everything to do with people with strong religious faith, and the way this small yet important arc transforms into a Christian cult lead by Jonas where he performs sadistic acts as if that's what those rituals meant and now somehow he has given more profound meaning to it, is just a load of bull crap and nothing more.

On the other hand, when we look at the cannibal/tribal arc of the flick, I have not seen anything as ignorant and dumb as that. From the very first scene related to them when we see a woman who is captured by the cannibals and is assaulted and eaten, I mean explain to me how is this even possible? First of all, in reality, these people know their area, and they only fuck with people who cross those boundaries. When it comes to the general public/natives of the area, they are smart enough to not intrude because they are aware of the dangers, also they are not as dumb as these Westerners. So this entire logic of cannibals suddenly showing up in a village is just so so stupid. And when you look past these above-mentioned things, the only thing that remains is senseless killing of animals, and for fuck sake, why were these people not imprisoned for such brain-dead acts? Look, I hate snakes to a level that I would be OK if all of them somehow vanished, but when I think beyond my pussy self, I know that they are as valuable as oxygen because of how valuable their venom is in medical science. In the current scenario, their population is constantly decreasing even after countless efforts that are being made to protect them. So when I see an asshole killing them by dozens for his dildo of a movie, it literally boils my piss. And by the way, what the fuck is up with the casting of this movie? They say that it's taking place somewhere in PNG (actually shot in Sri Lanka), but I can hardly see anyone from PNG; the extras are for some reason Indians... 😑 and a bunch of Asians from neighboring countries. What the... what the fuck did you do Lenzi... kidnap them all and forced them to stand there because reasons... Did everyone involved in its production shove that wooden dildo up their ass too and left it there long enough that it started affecting their thinking ability.

Words cannot describe how shit this entire movie is and how big of an asshole Lenzi was. But I can now say one thing for sure that this guy gets a kick out of killing animals, and making these movies is just an excuse. Because if art was the actual reason behind it, there would have been much better research and thought put into all this crap. But don't worry, from now on, you are my new prop, and Chaves will be taking the back seat for some time now.

This is one fart of a movie.

How much is too much?

This question should have been the central idea of the movie as all the players interact with each other while trying to justify why they are OK with self-deletion. If a couple of people say, "Ooh, it's gonna be really painful, and taking this pill will make things easy," I can buy that. But every fucking one of them literally has the same reason; are you kidding me. What about grappling with personal guilt, past trauma, or a life saturated with regret, driving individuals to seek an expedited escape? I know it sounds pretty depressing, but that's how people are and life is. Or how about the possibility of certain characters exploiting the situation, feigning compliance with the self-deletion concept while harboring ulterior motives, anticipating the demise of others to claim the remaining wealth. There are literally so many ways this entire narrative could have been crafted, providing more emotional depth and nuance to the story. Instead, what we got is who slept with whom behind their back and a kid who rightfully questions this decision of his parents and that's it. A better story would also have utilized this bloated cast to its fullest because by the end of the movie, I didn't even remember how many people were there or what their names were, and I have seen this shit twice.

All this movie did was work as a reminder of how good "It's a Disaster- 2012" was. But then again, it's still better than some two-and-a-half-hour flicks that are studded with A-list stars, where the story doesn't even go anywhere and leaves you with a headache, sore ass, regret and an urge to lobotomize oneself with a drill. You know what I'm talking about F.R.I.E.N.D.S army.

Yes, silence can be deafening, but this time it's just dumb.

For those quick to blame the wife for not standing by her husband during tough times and providing mental and emotional support, sure, that would be reasonable. But I guess it's good that she left because we cannot have anything in this movie that could potentially drive a narrative in a much more meaningful way than having a 50-minute-long training montage filled with generic stuff. I mean, sure, I can always get behind the idea of a narrative that is driven just by emotions and is overpowered by silence, but to pull that off, you need to have good substance in your narrative. Like remember "Boss Level - 2021" I know it had a different central idea than this, but the reason why it worked was because of the interactions of Roy with his son. It gave the movie a personality and made it much more relatable. Something similar could have been done here if more focus was given to flashbacks in terms of how happy this family was before the tragedy. See, the thing is, it's not just the fact that you lost your loved one in an untimely manner which drives you insane; its the realization that those beautiful moments can never be experienced again, which transforms one into a monster as sanity slips away. And by not fleshing out your characters to the core, you are missing your mark by a long shot when it comes to storytelling and engaging with your audience.

Even as you move to the second half of the movie, things aren't as good as they should be. Like, why was the cop not actively engaged even though he knew everything that was happening and had enough if not more intel about the gang members, was he waiting for Brian to drain the entire swamp... why you pussy... what the fuck are you getting paid for then if you are not even gonna do your job. And let's just say you wanted to show up in the final battle. Why didn't you come with backup and a fucking SWAT team? Is it only you who works in that police station, or do you want to reflect the "defund the police" sentiment of your government on screen too? If yes, then I guess you will be in big trouble because under your watch this man is trying to be a hero, and we can't have that, ARREST THAT BASTARD...

The only positive here is the somewhat well-choreographed action scenes and Kinnaman, who does his best with whatever material is given to him, but this man is built for better projects than this lousy piece of shit.

A Priest, a Metalhead, and an Occult Connoisseur Walk Into Armageddon!

When a movie features a priest who is hell-bent on committing as many sins as possible because... reasons... and teams up with a heavy metal record store owner because no one knows more about Satan or, say music that is full of sin as they do, and an Italian connoisseur of the occult who has the worst taste in art but damn right makes up for it when it comes to his choice in women; to go on a mission to prevent the reincarnation of the antichrist while being hopped up on enough psychedelics to turn their brains to mush; I say, what's not to love in a movie like this?

It not only capitalises on the central idea of the narrative by embracing the ridiculous plot points, violence and gore with unfiltered humor to the fullest. But also stays in touch with the time and the general public's take on the idea of evil, Satan, and ungodly things. The rise of TV evangelists and preachers in the West and their role in manipulating the thought process of the general public by branding anything that seemed provocative to them as Satanic, like heavy metal music which supposedly had hidden messages when played backwards (shout-out to "Stairway to Heaven" - My Sweet Satan 😂, check out this short documentary "How Heavy Metal and Satan gave us this sticker" on Vox YouTube channel. Also, recommend me some similar stuff, probably a movie; I love this type of crazy shit). This attention to detail not only builds character but also provides a much-needed depth to the story allowing it to stand out even after these many years.

But the most important thing one can learn from this movie is to always hire a priest to head your Satanic ritual. The amount of seriousness, dedication, and attention to detail they bring to the table is just unmatched. I mean, why would you slaughter any chick like a degenerate? Because... "you thought she looks like a virgin." Fuck off, moron, that's why most of you end up failing miserably both at getting laid and performing a successful ritual 🤣. Just ask her politely, "Are you a virgin, my child? Because I want a jar full of your blood."🤣 Sure, she will resist, but at least you have an assurance that she is a virgin. Also, since you are certified by God, there will always be some luck at play, so the chances of succeeding in it are way higher.

What an absolute rock and roll of a film this is, even on a rewatch. Give it a go if you haven't already, and a belated Merry Christmas to all my LB friends, hope you all had a banger of a day.

A Tale of Superstition, Struggle, and Romance.

Forcibly displacing individuals from their land is a phenomenon observed in both large and small cities, orchestrated by either political figures or the general public. Regardless of the motives driving such actions, legal recourse tends to intervene in most scenarios, ensuring justice prevails. In contrast, the dynamics shift in villages, particularly when actions and assertions are fortified by superstitions, compelling the entire community to succumb due to fear, often resulting in prevailing public opinions overshadowing legal norms.

Similar is the case here as we follow Miki, a papermaker and a part of an unusual family that carries the curse of inugami. Following a series of mysterious deaths, the family becomes the target of the entire town. The narrative explores three arcs: the familial drama, the gradual entrenchment of superstition in the town, and the budding romance between Miki and Akira. The manner in which the first half of the movie approaches these arcs kind of misses its mark on creating a stronger impact as It forces you to follow Miki from one plot point to another rather than making a smooth transition between them. Also, despite labelling itself as a horror film, the movie lacks elements that could be deemed genuinely terrifying. Sure, some uncomfortable stuff happens, but it's more of a dramatic take on a situation. If it weren't for the second half of the movie which delivers on all aspects of the story, this would have been a total yawn fest. It's so realistic, emotionally jarring, and, most importantly, provides the much-needed depth to its main characters as they confront their challenges.

Overall, it's a decent flick that could have been much better had it used the horror elements to its fullest, considering the subject matter had a lot of potential.

In search of your freedom, you left yourself behind.

When I was 8 years old, my family moved to a new apartment (one that held fond memories due to its proximity to a railway track), this was pretty close to my new school. Here I had no friends, and I was a bit shy too during those days. I cried a lot on my way to school on day one 😅, but there was another newcomer in the classroom, and coincidentally, he was also my neighbor and we instantly became friends. From then on, we ate lunch together, played together; I practically spent most of my time with him, like any other kid at that age. Even my parents liked him a lot to a point that they trusted him like he was my big brother or something, Why? Because... the first day when he came to my place, and as we were going out to play, my mother said to me, "Take care of yourself and watch the road while you are playing" (because I used to be... okay, I still am... very prone to accidents, even when mobile phones were not a part of our lives. I somehow always used to get distracted while crossing roads and have escaped literally dozens of collisions because someone pulled me back at the right time 😅), to which he replied, "I'll take care of him, don't worry, aunty," and this became a routine.

A couple of years later during our summer vacation, we were fucking around with our bicycles, and one of the guys in our group said, 'Let's race.' I was like, 'Sure, why not,' but this time I asked my friend for his cycle because his cycle had no brakes; it was way lighter, and all you had to do was pedal as fast as you can, and you win. But he said, 'No, you don't know how to handle a brakeless cycle.' A few days later when he was sleeping in the afternoon, I asked his sister, 'Can I borrow his cycle' and I called that other guy again for a race, and... I did win... if a failed drift where you are thrown out of balance and dragged for about 5 to 6 feet on the road is considered as winning, then yeah, I did WIN. With a bloody, fucked-up left arm, busted knee, and ankle, as I went back to return his bicycle, and saw him standing outside of his house waiting for me, all angry and worried, was the first time I saw someone who actually meant what he said. Him telling my mother 'Don't worry; I'll take care of him, aunty' weren't just empty words coming out of a kid to provide an illusion of safety to his friend's parents. He actually held himself accountable every time he said that, and in this instance too, he considered himself equally responsible for what happened to me. Probably that was the reason why even my parents considered him a trustworthy and a responsible friend.

As for the brakeless cycle, years later when we were in the final years of our schooling, when I asked him why the fuck did he remove the brakes in the first place, he told me, 'You know the answer.' And yeah... I did... that was the first time I had such a thrilling experience, and to this day, I can't explain that amazing adrenaline rush I had while I tried to drift a speeding, out-of-control cycle. Because even after getting hurt that bad, I was smiling like a moron, the most alive I ever felt as a 10-year-old. But at that moment he also told me that, 'I know the thrill is amazing, and I love it more than you, but what's more important is to learn, adapt to it, and stay in control even in a situation that you think is exciting and thrilling. Because getting carried away in search of exploring something new, you might end up destroying everything else in your life.'

Pretty similar is the story of Izumi, a loving and obedient wife, living a mundane life, existing just to fulfill all the needs of her somewhat controlling husband. But when given a chance to spread her wings and do something for herself, something that would make her happy and fill her with excitement, provide her with that much-needed freedom that she has been searching for all her life, it turns into a one-way trip of exploitation and humiliation. This makes you, as an audience, question, Was it really freedom or just an illusion of it?

Prostitution is something that people don't really like to talk about, especially when you put it next to words like 'respectable' and 'choice.' But there are people out there who are in it by choice, a choice that is mostly made by others for them and hardly by them. And in this case, something similar happens with Izumi. But instead of backing off at the right time, she decides to explore this world a little more and wander a bit further in the dark alleys full of treacherous beings, beings who are a bit different than your normal fiends, and that is exactly what attracts you towards them because you want to be just like them. While playing their part of sensei, they'll sure tell you about the importance of words as they point out the shallowness that they possess. But it will always be up to you to understand their intentions on why they decided to take you on this exotic journey. It might be thrilling, but as you reach your destination, you might have lost everything, your identity, dignity, self-respect, and most importantly, your soul. In short, it's more than just chasing a garbage truck, where there's still a chance of returning to that mundane life with your caring yet seemingly boring husband. This change is permanent, marking a decisive shift that will shape your life from that point onward, and there is no going back.

Some things never change.

There used to be a time when both men and women were valued for what they brought to the table, specifically in terms of sticking to societal norms, following and flourishing in the predetermined tasks assigned to them by society. Tasks that were narrowed down to bearing a child, taking care of your family, and following all the orders without questioning them as a good wife. For men, it wasn't just necessary but compulsory to be a productive part of society and contribute to it in the best way possible. These expectations were rigorously enforced, particularly in Asian cultures, where any deviation risked social ostracization.

This was also a time when power play was on another level. Individuals, possessing the means to attain their desires, could employ any means necessary without scrutiny. Attempts to challenge this status quo carried severe consequences. However, with the passage of time, these stringent norms have gradually given way to a more inclusive acceptance of individual choices.

Still, certain facets of human behaviour never change. The unrelenting pursuit of fame, love, wealth, and status at the cost of one's integrity and ethical principles still persists to this day. Similar is the case here, as we find ourselves shuffling between real life and a play Kosuke and his lover are part of. As the plot progresses, it becomes hard to tell what's real and what's not. It starts off as a slow burner as it takes its time to set up its characters for a grand second half and goes from 0 to 100 mph in a heartbeat, something one would expect from a Takashi Miike film.

However, this abrupt transition serves as a double-edged sword. In a movie like this that is completely character-driven, you want the players to slowly progress towards insanity with multiple milestones set throughout the plot that would slowly break one's character, and not have them lose it all in one instance and go psycho in the second half. Had they paid some more attention to the pacing of the movie, it would have been a perfect flick because that second half is just pure insanity and kind of does make up for whatever flaws it has.

Overall, a solid flick that is a perfect blend of drama and psychological horror.

This is why "Us - 2019" never appealed to me much.

When Jordan Peele was doing the press tour for his movie "Us - 2019," he mentioned his fear of doppelgangers quite a number of times but never really expanded on that thought. Sure, I get it; he doesn't have to. But I was hoping to see something more than just what he was talking about in the movie, something that goes beyond fear.

Now, let's take a bit of a detour and talk about our existence on an individual level, just as humans. Each and every one of us can agree on one thing: we would not like it if someone impersonated us, did something bad, and vanished into thin air. Be it a doppelganger or just a normal person who used cosmetics to look like us, leaving us behind to deal with the consequences of their actions that can destroy our lives, in some cases, permanently.

This also tells us that, no matter how much of a narcissist or an asshole one can be, they all acknowledge the fact that they are a unique individual in this world and have some value because of it. So if someone tells me that they are scared of a doppelganger because they might do something that would harm their image, my reply to them would be to think again and think deeper because it's not just the bad that impacts your existence; it's the GOOD that defines our existence.

Now, imagine if there was an alternative of you who was better than you in every aspect, be it in loving someone, caring for someone, working hard to improve your and others' lives, both at the office and at home, etc... etc... It's not the idea of a doppelganger being a bad person that bothers me; it's the idea that he might be better than me and that people I love would just forget me and replace me with him without even knowing it. And if I questioned this fact and tried to earn my place back, I might be the bad person who wants to take away a person from them who has cared for them and loved them more than I did.

Even though I'm just 28 years old, I think I have seen enough things for the remainder of my life. My life is full of regrets and begging for more time to do more things for people I loved, and most of it has to do with me losing my parents at an early age. I can't say for others, but for me, they were everything, and I wanted to make them proud and have them by my side in every important moment of my life. Now, even though I have done quite well for myself, there will always be a hole in my life that I can never fill. And a bitter reminder of that hole is a recurring dream that constantly haunts me. It's about my parents living with someone who looks just like me, and they are happy, and I'm looking at them from a window, shouting like a psycho, "that's not me." Sometimes they look at me and carry on with what they were doing, as if they can't see me or they just ignore me because there is a better me to take care of them. And upon waking from that dream, drenched in sweat and occasionally hyperventilating, all I can conclude is that I might be the most selfish person in the world, unwilling to see my parents happy, regardless of whom they are with.

When I saw this movie in 2016, it was both amazing and scary to see how well the narrative was crafted. It not only covers things that may haunt you in such a situation but also sheds light on your insecurities and drills to the very depth of it, forcing you to acknowledge the fact that you are just as replaceable as a worker on a 9 to 5 job, be it by a doppelganger or just another person.

Fuck Aladdin; give me more of this, but with a dash of 'calm the fuck down'.

Once again, a movie where you know from the beginning itself where the plot is gonna go, minus that twist which gets revealed in the dumbest and upfront way possible, and tries to be clever with their shit witchcraft knowledge, as they can't differentiate between summon, invoke, and provoke. This has to be one of the stupidest things I have ever seen in a movie like this.

Even with these flaws, this movie somehow manages to be really engaging, and the credit for that goes to the cast for being skillful enough to provide it with that much-needed spark of unpredictability on an individual level. But then again, it wastes no time to change course and turn from a menacing, brutal, and eerie flick to a downright goofy, cringe, and an overdone piece of garbage around the halfway mark. It was as if in the middle of the filming, someone suggested, 'Let's turn this shit into a comedy because... I DON'T FUCKING KNOW, ASK THEM, THEY MADE THIS SHIT.'

I really wanted this movie to end on a high because it started on a high and had the potential to pull it off. But fuck it, let's just watch Aladdin shout, 'I AM THE DEMON...' and annoy everyone with his shitty dialogues.

Fraud + Forgery + Sexual Harassment = This guy better get a serious punishment... or a little peel-off could also work. 😁

A setup very similar to that of "Severance 2006" but with the mystery related to the killer pretty much revealed in the first 25 minutes of the movie. One would say not really, and the narrative was able to sustain the mystery till the end, but I say you are in denial just like my friend from the office who is blinded by the looks of the new girl in the office, who slides in a smelly fart and acts like there is some fart demon in the office, and just like a Twitch simp, everyone buys into it, but no one ever looks in her eyes properly to notice the relaxation she gets after that release; but I FUCKING DID NOTICE IT... but I also like what she brings in lunch everyday so fuck it. Similarly, I don't really mind that reveal in the beginning because it's a well-paced narrative that is both dark, funny, and bloody.

Over the years, my biggest beef with Hollywood horror flicks is that there are way too many killers with knives, and to be honest, knives became boring the moment Myers started jerking off with it. For it, the majority of the blame goes to the minds behind the use of that prop, and they just don't know how to get creative with it, nor do they want to use other weapons. There is artistry in the way any weapon or any sharp object for that matter cuts through human flesh, It's disturbing, domineering, and just so... so... satisfying to the senses if you are a horror fan. This is one of the biggest reasons why I love European horror flicks. They know how to deliver on the gore part better than the sissies of Hollywood, and this is exactly what elevates the plot here, top-class violent sequences filled with good unapologetic humor.

Overall, a good dark comedy that, thank fuck, isn't made by Hollywood. The moment a masked killer is introduced in a movie, you just know there is gonna be some plan for a half-assed sequel labelled as fan service but, in reality, is just another robbing scheme by the corporate overlords.

Bro. Literally said fuck all y'all to his friends.🎄🧝‍♂️🎅

Another day, another basic horror flick, sorry a Christmas horror flick, featuring a basic family comprising of a bratty daughter obsessed with the word "fuck," a son who discovers the lingering threat and tries to go buddy-buddy with it while warning others about things that can piss it off. But no one takes him seriously because he is just a kid... a fucking 14-year-old kid. When did people start taking 14-year-old kids this lightly? Just because he is acting like an 8-year-old doesn't mean he is stupid, and finally, a "somewhat" man of the house who is married to a woman trying her best to be a good stepmother.

Now, even though I'm calling it basic, it shouldn't have been this way. The reason being the cast that is on display here is talented and genuinely funny if given good material to work with, but the writing here is weak and bland. Other than one or two jokes, everything falls flat and feels forced. As you progress towards the second half of the movie and chaos ensues, the narrative for no reason, takes unnecessary pauses and tries to go all touchy-feely, killing the momentum and the much-needed spark that this movie needed to be considered by audiences for a rewatch over the coming years.

Overall, it still is a decent popcorn flick that you can enjoy on a cold evening with family and if you are in the festive mood you can let go of such flaws.

At least Shyamalan had the decency to keep the runtime short.

Man, that was somewhat interesting, and now I can't wait to see what's going to happen in the coming episodes...🦗🦗🦗
Oh, this is a... movie...? Oh Oh...

When you are working on a theme like this which focuses on an ET invasion or a pandemic or a mass cyber attack or a fucking apocalypse, you can approach this in two ways. Explore the outdoors with your characters as they are confronted with life-threatening situations while trying to reach a supposedly safe place, and their characters are built through this journey, which gets the audience invested in them emotionally, allowing them to stay engaged throughout the runtime Or, have a completely character-driven narrative where any sort of uncertain activity acts as a catalyst in affecting the everyday personality of your players, draining them not just physically but most importantly mentally. As the plot progresses, the veneer of sophistication, decency, and hollow virtues that they are carrying slowly fades away into nothingness, and all that is left is just a human being with flesh and bones, staring right into your eyes, just like an animal who can do anything for its survival.

But what we have here is probably one of the poorly written scripts, tackling a subject matter in the most tedious manner possible. And it's not like it never creates opportunities that would have a lasting impact on a character's arc, like the ones with the plane, Teslas, lady and the drone, etc... all of these events should have a major impact on breaking each one of these characters, slowly driving them to the edge of insanity. But fuck no... why do that when we can just chill, smoke weed, have some expensive alcohol in our big mansion, and try to bond with each other, literally telling the audience that they are starting to like each other because everything has to be said and nothing can be left to interpretation. But then again, they bitch about each other just when they are about to sleep and forget about everything the very next morning 😐. If you were going to do just this with your characters, why hire big guns in your movies when any other actor could have played these roles with ease on a lower pay? Because when I see these four actors, I want them to showcase the best of their acting skills, but for that, you need a script that challenges them and pushes them out of their comfort zone. Oh... fuck sorry, I forgot, If they weren't in this movie, then no one would watch it, so yeah, the mission is accomplished. What I wanted to see is how Amanda, Clay, G.H. and Danny would navigate this situation, not what Julia, Ethan, Ali and Kevin would do, because that's what it felt like, a bunch of celebs trapped in a house because of some 'fuck it, who cares' reason. Occasionally trying to get to the meat of things, but the moment the wine glass needs a refill, they say 'fuck it' and move on to some other bullshit conversation that has nothing to do with the situation, and continue to live their best lives without a worry in the world.

Now let's just for once ignore the above issues and move straight to the finale of the movie where the mystery is revealed. Each character possesses vital information crucial to the situation that would lead to interesting conversations. But when asked why didn't you share this info. earlier, the best excuse they could come up with is 'Oh, I didn't want everyone to panic.' MOTHERFUCKERS... show me... show me... where are you hiding your pacifiers, or I'm gonna punch you in the face myself. Now let's ignore this too and jump straight to 'The Mystery'. This could be something really out of the box for everyone, but to me, it's just another day on an American political YouTube podcast. There are literally dozens of channels that talk about shit that is very similar and even scarier to this. Now let's just buy into the fact that yes, it's something very original that you came up with. It still won't matter much because for 2 hours and 25 fucking minutes... you did nothing significant to explore the seriousness, impact, or depth of the mystery. Revealing it at the very end and leaving things in an ambiguous state is not helping your cause whatsoever. Because the wine cabinet is still full, and these fuckers still won't give a fuck...

At this point, I don't know if I'm angry at this lame-ass movie or the fact that I chose this over 'The Killer' to relax after my exam day.

Also, fuck F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

Way too much fluff for a single flick.

This is what happens when you confuse creativity with creative diarrhea. A story that should've been simply about denouncing the hypocrisy of the religious institutions and their claims of the existence of one and only one God, branding anyone or anything that could potentially have a similar influence over the general public, even if it's unconditional and for their good, as pure evil; is a narrative that is both compelling and effective if done in a proper way.

But what we have here is two major storylines jammed into one, with the majority of the arcs going nowhere and a fart of a finale that thinks it's mind-blowing but, in reality, is only capable of blowing toilet seats with its explosive diarrhea. All jokes aside, if you think about it, both these storylines do have potential as separate films or can exist in one movie with a longer runtime and in the hands of a better team working on it. Overall, this is a waste of a talented cast and, most importantly, everyone's time who watched this movie and tried to make sense of the ending 🤢🤮.

Son, you can run away from God but not from student debt. That is one way to force someone into the priesthood. 😂😂

If you judge this movie just based on the narrative, it's pretty average. But when you throw a talented cast into the mix, everything feels way too sophisticated and classy, which further elevates the entire stack above the rest. The story is told very much from a skeptic's perspective, a reason why it never berates the non-believer, which is both the characters in the movie and the audience, to just accept everything that is thrown at them and say a few Hail Marys because they've sinned. Instead, it takes time to delve into conversations, seeking to understand arguments from both sides. Even when things appear clear, it refrains from forcibly holding individuals accountable for their denial.

To reinforce such a perspective, the film provides a sense of realism to the cases of demonic possession woven throughout the story, like Father Lucas said, "What were you expecting, spinning heads and pea soup?" There is class in being subtle and grounded, and this movie understands that completely. And to complement that, you won't find one single cheap jump scare, which is literally hard to find in most exorcism/demonic possession flicks.

The only issue here is the finale. See, the entire narrative slowly increases its tension, but as it reaches the end, it kind of misses its mark at banking on everything that it sets itself up for. The sense of losing someone that one should feel during the final encounter with the devil was completely missing. It should have been soul-crushing and cathartic, but instead, it was pretty basic. Another thing that bothered me on the rewatch was the runtime. I understand character development takes time, but 2 hours is just a lot. You can easily brush off 20 or so minutes, and it would have been a much better and impactful experience.

Overall, it's a good flick, and if you are an Anthony Hopkins fan, you'll enjoy it even more.

But why her?

I have always been fond of movies exploring different aspects of religion the mysteries, the stories, and the controversies satisfy one's hunger for mystery and thrill simultaneously. Whether you are religious or not, by the end of the movie, you always take away something, defining the connection of humans with religion or something humane beyond the confines of faith. And to drive such a narrative, a strong main character is crucial, but in this case, it's absent.

Why choose a girl as the main character who happens to be an ordinary atheist in possession of the rosary of a deceased father (not to mention a rosary that had to be sent all the way from Brazil... I guess they wanted to stay as close to their studio as possible here in America, whatever saves your money, I guess 😂) when a more complex character could have been created:

• A deeply flawed atheist seeking answers about the meaning of life and is perhaps a bit suicidal.
• A religious person slowly losing faith in God after losing a loved one.
• A person who used to believe in God but lost all faith after closely witnessing the wickedness of our world, a world where religion is turned into a commodity and is used to divide people rather than bringing them closer.

But what we have here is just a normal human being going about her day like any other person but is put in a spot she had no business being in the first place. It's like grabbing a sane person from the street and forcibly putting him into an asylum and having your way with him with all the electrocution and lobotomy, setting him up for a lifetime of brain damage.

It's not just about the MC; even the supporting character, Father Andrew, hardly has any depth to his arc. He is just a normal God's man doing his job in the best way possible, and that's it. Remember Father Damien from The Exorcist - 1973? He had a strong arc filled with self-doubt, a person who sacrificed himself for the greater good, and even though he was a supporting character, he had an equal impact on the story.

The reason I'm pointing out these things is that if, for once, we ignore its shortcomings, it's a really solid film that is well-acted and tries its best to keep the audience engaged throughout it's runtime. This was possible only because of the ace cast on display here. The majority of the credit goes to Patricia Arquette, what an amazing actress she is. All those scenes of stigmata were so powerful that even though her character didn't have much of a personality and a strong background, she was still able to sell all her scenes like a boss. Now imagine if the characters were well-structured as I pointed out; this would have been a much, much better film.

This review may contain spoilers.

Yeah, guns are impure, but stabbing innocents with a dagger is just so... Jesusy isn't it you dicks.

The idea of following a cult leader and his teachings about the beginning of an apocalypse and killing others as an act of saving their souls is just downright psychotic. But the question that bothers me is how can all of these cult members be this dumb and easily be brainwashed to perform such heinous acts? And when you think a bit about it, you come to realize that most of these people are fucking rejects. The end of the world is just an excuse; what most of them want is to assert dominance and feel powerful for once in their miserable life. Because in a just world on a regular day, they are nothing but losers, cowards, bootlickers, and yes virgins; and similar is the case here.

This is a very well-paced narrative, which does run out of steam at times but gets going the very next moment. There is also an obvious loophole in the story, which one would argue could have led to a better escape plan had the subway workers tagged along with everyone else, giving us a proper layout of the subway system rather than just going anywhere they feel like while escaping the nutjobs who are after them. But what surprised me the most was the horror aspect of it, and they did not hold back one bit; it's all on-screen violent and disturbing. Overall, it's a nice little horror flick that has TRAAAINS....🥰😅.

"The devil was telling the truth, and God was the liar."

Set against the backdrop of the Great Depression, a time when the general socioeconomic disparity between the rich and poor was defined as Vultures and Rats, and believing in God was an assured one-way ticket to heaven. We are introduced to a trio of circus performers Maggie, Eve, and Seven out on the road to claim their spot not as vultures but as beasts. Killing for a meal, killing for a good night's sleep, or just killing to kill; they have embraced their survival instincts better than an apex predator. So be it through breadcrumbs or "pieces" of each other, they know how to survive.

The entire narrative is masterfully structured, with an artistic and somber tone carrying a foreboding atmosphere throughout the runtime, providing an accurate feel of the aforementioned period. If you are a fan of their previous work, "Hellbender 2021," you'll be more than impressed with their delivery here. Having said all this, it's very much a movie that will depend heavily on your thought process, how much you want to invest yourself in this world, what you want to derive from it, or, if I were to put it simply, how messed up and depressed you are to relate to the entire narrative 🙃.

Why make a hardcore 18+ flick when we can dumb it down to PG-13.

When you have a movie poster that features a seductive demon with a Nazi flag behind it and a plot summary that literally tells you word for word what's going on, you are hardly left with any nuance that you can introduce in your narrative to sustain the mystery for any longer than 30 mins. And whatever is left of it after that later gets narrowed down to two possibilities with the soldier keeping the torn book's page with him. I mean, he isn't keeping it as a souvenir, is he?

The only way all of this could have created a stronger impact is if it went the no-fucks-given way. When I see a sexy red demon who is constantly trying to seduce every guy that shows up as a way of manipulating them and can also deceive them through false visions, I see a ton of potential where all of this is turned up to 11, with sheer art and creativity coming into play, where the artist knows how to be filthy and dangerous the entire runtime.

The changes that I would make would be:

• Have two soldiers from each side with one of the Nazis portrayed as a loose cannon.
• Go beyond exploring sexual tension and turn it into a visceral experience, perhaps even a gore fest, If you know what I mean.
• Amplify the demon's ability to deceive through visions to an LSD level, leading to internal strife, grotesque self-harm, and torment with visions of their committed crimes.
• Sustain as much ambiguity as possible by the end.

Now it would be unfair to say that this movie had nothing good to offer. The way it started, especially the opening sequence when our guy is being questioned by the Nazi soldier, was engaging and interesting, giving us a hint that the director has a vision and isn't just another Michael Chaves... I mean incompetent hack. But that's the only positive. After that, it pretty much plays out exactly the way you would expect any other B-movie would, average, bland, and lacking creativity.

Whispers of an Elusive Ghost.

There is nothing out there that is more heartbreaking than losing someone you love in an untimely and uncertain manner. It's the moments that you could have shared, the memories you could have built together that have now been replaced with an empty hole that can never be filled. But what actually drives you towards depression is the idea that, will that person be satisfied/happy with your actions as you progress further in your life? Is the pursuit solely confined to progress and success? And why is it necessary to provide meaning to it?

"Waking the Dead" follows a similar idea and forces our lead, Pierce, to answer similar questions. Pierce, who has always had political ambitions, finds himself in a state of constant stress and loneliness after he starts to see visions of his dead girlfriend, Sarah. What initially seemed like just a memory that resurfaced out of nowhere slowly starts turning into a regular occurrence, leading Pierce towards insanity and distance from others.

At a time when he needs someone to just understand him and talk to him normally, he is burdened with expectations, requests, and demands. The rollercoaster of emotions that he is going through is the reflection of the feelings that Sarah used to talk about when she emphasized the needs of the underprivileged and why it should be his priority to serve them and not get blinded by the success that'll come to him as he gets elected to the US Congress.

This movie is a great mix of romantic drama with politics, presenting a subject matter that we are generally used to consuming in the most flashy, provocative, and stylized manner. It explores the essence of human decency and a selfless way of life, delivering a poignant and thought-provoking experience.

You're my goddamn hero.🚇🚁🚓

A few years back, when I reviewed this movie I gave it 3.5 ⭐️, a decision that has bothered me ever since because this is a perfect movie and it makes me happy. Also, life is too short to underrate things that we love. But I am also an asshole, so I'll compensate it for the shit served by Michael Chaves and similar incompetent hacks 😁.

There have only been a few times when I got invested from the very first frame of any movie. So when you throw the glorious New York skyline at my face, backed by the rhythmic sound of moving trains that sync so seamlessly with the "99 Problems" track by Jay Z..., NOW THAT IS PURE FUCKING BRAINGASM.

You can sit around and pick apart this movie for the flaws that it has when it comes to the execution of the hijacking or what the authorities could have done to prevent more casualties. At the same time, providing more depth to a certain arc would be reasonable, and I won't argue with that. But by doing that, what you'll be missing is to enjoy what's in front of you.

This is the man who's gonna rock this city. This is the man who's gonna give this city a run for the money.

See, this is more than just a hijack flick. It's a movie about a guy who used the system for his selfish gains. But when the system turned on him for the right reason "Arguably," he lost it and started justifying his actions by saying that it's the city that is making him do all this shit. He also started scratching into others' past, pulling out their secrets, taking them on a guilt trip, and putting them in tough situations. But...

You're just like me, Garber. I fueled this city. I fed it breakfast every morning and now we're the bad guys.
I DON'T THINK SO. I DON'T FUCKING THINK SO!

His interaction with Garber is what affects him the most. In a way, Garber is just like him, who abused his authority for personal gains, irrespective of the reason for his misconduct; it's still a crime that he committed. But what differentiates them both is the intent. One of them is still blinded by his power and can go to any extent to achieve what he wants, while the other person is filled with guilt and is looking to redeem himself, even if it means his life could be at stake. They might be getting old, but they are still way more efficient than any newbie could ever be. 🚂☣️🛻

Shooting at the stop switch to halt the train located right next to the fuel tank, nothing says more American than this.🤣🤣

"Unstoppable" has everything you can ask for in your typical Tony Scott flick. It's fast-paced, technically sound, and features phenomenal actors who can carry any scene with ease. It is visually striking. However, what elevates this film is its exploration of the underlying narrative. It delves into the theme of being valued amid the challenges of ageing and the imminent influx of younger, more adept individuals.

Everyone has to retire at one point, and no one can keep going forever. What they desire is to sign off on their terms with sufficient, respectable benefits to spend the rest of their lives in comfort. Similarly, Frank (Denzel) and a few other workers of his age are being forced to retire with inadequate benefits and are being replaced by younger lads.

In the face of an impending disaster, Frank assumes command, drawing upon a lifetime of experience to avert a catastrophe that could have resulted in significant loss. What's even more impressive is how the filmmakers use an old locomotive (something that Frank mentions while having a conversation with Connie exactly at the halfway mark of the movie) as a plot device to weave a connection between an antiquated machine and an ageing worker, both on the last leg of their careers but still possessing what it takes to save the day when needed.

While the plot emphasizes the value of experienced individuals, it never casts shade on Will as a newbie but rather focuses on the positives he brings to the table, highlighting his role as an exceptional team player.

"Unstoppable" also navigates the complexities of making tough decisions and challenging authority. No one enjoys doing such things unless you are an asshole or have a wish to get fired. But when you understand the situation well particularly when leading a team accustomed to handling such challenges, you are well-equipped to take a tough call and ignore your superiors not because it's cool but because it's the need of the hour.

In every company, there are different departments, and they know how to solve their problems. Like an HR should not force the IT team to speed up the work and get things production-ready ASAP because the client is after their ass, because if anything gets messed up, you are back to square one. So, in such a scenario, the best one can do is understand the issues the IT team is facing, try to solve them, and assist them in keeping the work going as smoothly as possible, letting them worry about perfecting it and delivering it on time. Similarly, Connie and Frank know what is the right thing to do because they are well-equipped with ideas and skills to tackle any such uncertainties with minimum damage.

Overall, this is a well-made flick that is both action-packed and thoughtful at the same time, and even after over a decade, it still feels fresh and exhilarating.

This review may contain spoilers.

Thank God he didn't kick her.

What kicks off as a robbery flick turns into a cover-up story and finally turns into a survival flick; is something we hardly witness, or let's put it like this, we hardly witness it being played out this effectively with a lot of thought put into every decision made on screen, with a few exceptions of course, but we'll talk about that in the end.

It's about taking advantage of the opportunity that comes once in a lifetime for which even the most decent, god-fearing, and righteous person would be forced to think twice and twist their morals, no matter the cost. From coming up with a proper plan to execute everything while being flexible to fit into uncertainties, which always occur in such situations because, as you know, "the more you fuck around, the more you find out,". It's the sudden, unexpected shifts that you witness and how the players react to them that make this a memorable experience. But everything has flaws, and here we live in a world where there are cameras only in that one shop... That's it... So imagine if the case goes to a smart, hardworking officer, I guess he wouldn't find any cameras anywhere in the city which will allow him to put 2 and 2 together 🤣🤣. These are questions that will bother you once the movie ends, and if you overthink it, it most definitely will ruin your experience, and I think that would be way too critical of us because all in all, it is a solid flick that delivers more than you would expect from it.

It Follows + Antlers = Shit.

Girl, you can try and put as many filters as you like to make your colour complexion look lighter, but you can never hide from those aunties who exist on this planet specifically to judge you just for that, personality and everything else can go fuck itself 🤣. By the way, Sam, you look like a younger version of Candace Owens. Once she leaves The Daily Wire, go ahead and apply because acting isn't your strong suit.

It's hard to tell what's worse, the clusterfuck of a narrative or the forced Indian representation via the most incompetent or hardly Indian actors. See, if I wanted to watch It Follows or Antlers, I'd rewatch them but would never in my wildest dream ask for a movie that is a combination of both. Let me rephrase this: I would never ask for a cheap ripoff that lacks both originality and creativity. For fuck's sake, you could have at least embraced the gore and violence and tried to bank on the sheer insanity that comes from it, I mean, it's a monster movie, right?

And I don't understand why an Indian family; you can literally cast actors from any ethnic background, and shit won't change here, You know why? Because the shit-for-brains team behind this project doesn't know the meaning of "research." The only Indian connection here is that it's an Indian lore, and that's it. There is nothing special when it comes to developing its arc which would give it a proper native angle, and to be honest, with this amount of vagueness, it could well be just another monster. At least a portion of this flick should have been shot in India, especially while exploring the lore. When it comes to the cast, I have never seen anything as uninteresting as this. Both the young girls are just not at all good, maybe for a school play but not for movies. And fuck me, but no one can ever convince me that Vik Sahay is Indian. He is the type of guy who sits in the crowd and would get roasted by comedians like Nimesh Patel or Akash Singh until their entire set is finished. Neeru Bajwa was the only best part of the movie, but you can't do much with a shit script like this.

This was just another dumb monster flick that was trying to bank on the Indian arc but failed miserably.

But I have an idea if you are an aspiring Indian filmmaker, make a horror comedy slasher-type flick with South Delhi girls, where the antagonist kills himself out of sheer annoyance. If you don't already know, trust me, South Delhi girls are one of the least explored species ever... very unpredictable, but interesting and so fucking annoying. I know it because I deal with a bunch of them on a daily basis, one of the reasons why I have suicidal tendencies.

He might not know where the coffee is, but I'm pretty sure he is well aware of the number of and different types of doughnuts in that doughnut box. A fucking useless cop.

#10 - Favorite movie of all time.

I have been working on this review for over a week now but managed to finish like 80% of it just now 🤣. Work, and especially studies, are draining me like hell; now I better get into a really good college, or I'm gonna be pissed.

This is probably the only movie, other than "The Adjustment Bureau 2011," where I find myself zoned in from the very second the movie starts. The Touchstone and Jerry Bruckheimer title drop, accompanied by a soothing opening track, establishes a sense of calm before the impending storm. This sequence epitomizes the essence of the character Doug played by Denzel Washington.

Unlike everyone else who is obsessed with stamping their authority in their particular field and claiming themselves as know-it-alls, we have Doug on the opposite side whose main objective is getting the job done in the most efficient and effective way possible, which starts with primarily separating himself from the bullshit and bullshit-people like that "I am the in-charge" guy. Doug isn't just focused but also smart. His interaction with the science guy, which was supposed to be a one-way verbal geeky diarrhoea because, according to him, he is the smartest ass in the room, and Doug is just another dumb cop, turns into a cross-questioning session because Doug demands to know what he is dealing with. And by the end of that entire arc, our science guy starts looking at things from a different and broader perspective and even starts respecting Doug, not because he went after him, but because he understands where Doug is coming from and to what extent he can go to seek justice and save others.

There is one more thing that makes Doug a great officer, and it has to do with the accountability aspect of it. When we are introduced to the bomber, he says, "The lives of those 500 soldiers were just collateral and did not mean anything in the grand scheme of things," providing everyone with the confession but still, things weren't clear when it came to Claire, and to that Agent Jack says, "We got the confession for those 500 soldiers, that's it, fuck Claire, she is nothing." On one hand, you have a terrorist, and on the other, you have an arrogant cop who is willing to shrug off the death of an innocent individual as inconsequential. But for Doug, it is all about accountability. He empathizes with the grieving father seeking justice for his daughter's death, highlighting his unwavering dedication to the pursuit of justice.

Doug's character serves as a role model, offering valuable life lessons that extend beyond law enforcement. His integrity, commitment to justice, and ability to discern the bigger picture make him an inspirational figure.

'Deja Vu' is not only one of my favorite Denzel Washington films but also one of the best collaborations with Tony Scott. Also, cheers to the 50th rewatch of this masterpiece.

Till 'motor oil' do us part. 🪚🧆🤖

The narrative unfolds from a hunter's perspective as he embarks on a quest to exterminate bio-mechanical monsters for his own selfish motive. However, as the story progresses, it delves into the life of a shy factory worker, a man of discerning morals who can distinguish between good and evil. He is sensible enough to understand what an irredeemably corrupted soul looks like. It's comparatively easy to fight an asshole with evil intentions towards your loved one, but what will you do if something sinister takes over their entire personality to a point from where there is no return? A question that all of us are afraid to answer.

MM successfully caters to our appetite for visceral thrills, with its abundant gore and impressive practical effects, especially if you are a fan of 'Tetsuo' and its scrap metal porn you'll find yourself at home. From swords to bazookas to table saws, these people are going all out when it comes to fan service, reaching a point where you'll ask yourself, "Is it going to turn into a missile next?" Well, close enough...

Overall, one banger of a flick, forcing me to laugh even at Amy Schumer jokes to avoid those negative thoughts, or else it's game over for me.

The Nun 3 is certainly on the cards now, isn't it Michael Chaves... 🪑🛁

The burden of expectations can be overwhelming even for the most resilient of individuals, the more you prove yourself the heavier the load. Such is the case of Narcisa, a girl who was considered "Holy" ever since she was a kid, living in a time and a community where religion was considered a major aspect of everyone's life, it became suffocating for her, forcing her to constantly move from one place to another in search of peace leading her to a convent where she will be tested to the core. For Narcisa it's not just about finding her faith but also about accepting her fate as the chosen one.

This is very much a slow burner of a flick that takes its time to set up every character, and every arc for a finale that hits you like a ton of bricks. It's like going 60kmph for the majority of the journey and suddenly switching to 160kmph because a mile ago you saw a bumper sticker that said, Lewis Hamilton is the best and now you have gotta yell at them that Max said "Never compare him with Rookies" 🤣🤣.

Overall this is a really solid flick, something Michael Chaves can look into and copy... Sorry "Take Inspiration" for The Nun 3 and build a proper story for a change 🤣.

I think I dropped my jaw somewhere. WOW!

"When Evil Lurks" follows the residents of a small rural town who discover that a demon is about to be born among them. They desperately try to escape, but it may be too late.

You call it Evil I call it the Wrath of God.

When someone in need is ignored by the authorities at a time when they could have been saved because their ego and being lazy is more important than doing their fucking job, it makes you angry, which is a valid reaction. But what about "YOU"? Just because an authoritarian figure in your community told you to drag a human being like an "Object" and leave him somewhere out of town because that is supposed to save you and everyone in town... I don't know who is the real evil at this point. Or let's look at it like this...

For a guy whose grandmother has been in a coma and on a ventilator for the past few days, the chances of her recovery are next to none, but still, there is a 1% chance that she might make it. Doctors have already told you to be prepared for the worst, and it's up to you to decide how long you want to keep her on a ventilator because they have already given up. Your close relatives are also trying to convince you to let her go because these past 10 - 15 days have taken a toll on you too. After all, it's only you who has been taking care of everything, since she is the last and only member of your family left. For that guy, it would be a kind of logical choice to listen to his relatives and turn off the ventilator since the doctors have given up too. BUT will it be the "RIGHT" thing to do? Will I be able to live with the fact my entire life that there was still a 1% chance that she might have recovered. If I am this weak that I can't take care of her for a few days keeping aside my comfort and relaxation irrespective of whether she will be able to survive through it or not, I can at least try my 100% and let her go with pride because it was her who took care of me when I lost both my parents, it was her who was with me when I was alone, allowing me to tell others yes I have a Family. So I think it's my responsibility to give not my 99% but 100%.

Now let's remove the personal aspect from that above para, and just think of a person with whom you are not related but still are in a similar position and tell me why don't they deserve that same respect and a chance to leave this world with dignity. After all, it is a human being, right...

And in this case, you can go ahead and call it evil. By the way, who said God is all about beautiful things, prosperity, and health, Just because it's all going shit sideways doesn't mean it's evil. It is karma; it always catches up to you, mostly over the years, maybe even through generations, but this time I guess the speed of light it is. When it comes to payback time, there are no rules; everyone and anyone you love will suffer, and just in case you thought you would meet a fate similar to your loved ones, trust me there are things more horrible than death.

What the actual Fuck... Is this?

Either these people think the audience suffers from memory loss or they want us to make our own stories in our heads to justify their fuck ups. Like why does this movie even exists in the first place wasn't Abalam unleashed by throwing a demonic baby in the fire in the last movie? Then why does he want Nell now? Ooh, to have a proper vessel, is it? Then why the fuck did you let her escape in the first place you fucking dicks.... Oooh there was a fire, was it? and everyone literally every fucking cult member was killed in it despite the entire ritual being performed in the open air, are you fucking serious right now no one was able to escape not even her hillbilly brother. Also, what is it with Nell trusting everyone so easily after what she has been through, like any random person can walk up to her and tell her anything they want and she would just tag along with them, GURL... You be breaking some serious serial killer hearts right there ummm mmm... 🤣 At this point, I am convinced that Abalam was one irritating pain in the ass and was cast out even from hell and was told to go fuck off and do anything he wants, so he decided to make a sequel and torture entire humanity with it, so I guess he succeeded in what he wanted, now go fuck off and bend it like Beckham somewhere else demon boy.

I lost it at "Blowing Job". 🤣⛓️✝️

The Last Exorcism follows a disillusioned evangelical minister who agrees to take part in a documentary designed to expose exorcism as a fraud.

For me, this is more than just a movie about a minister debunking the practice of exorcism as it also focuses on the fact why conservative Christians would rather have a priest performing rituals than go to a medical professional for at least a second opinion. And this attitude prevails not just among Christians but among people of all religious backgrounds too with the highest concentration of the population being conservative or living in backward/rural areas with limited access to or knowledge of modern science and amenities. See whenever someone seems sick or starts acting irrationally, people in such communities have a habit of consulting a priest because that is where they find comfort and assurance. Yes, there is a religious aspect to it but what these people are actually looking for is one-on-one guidance and a personal touch when the patient is treated so any sort of vagueness, rudeness, any lack of attention towards the patient is considered as incompetence, and word spreads fast in smaller communities which further leads to reluctance from the public in general. In short, they would rather have a limb chopped off by a polite priest with little to no recovery than have a doctor mumbling gibberish, acting all rude and busy with no personal touch toward the patient, and when asked a question "Will she be okay" to which they would say "Can't you see... we are trying... so please stand outside and let us do our work"; Yeah... It's really hard to blame people in such cases for prioritising their religion over science.

Similarly in this case it's less about the minister not believing in the exorcism but more about his understanding of the general public's mindset and his open-mindedness towards modernization and medicine. He is a man of many talents I would say, a person who assures the one who is in desperate need of it through his age-old gimmicks because he knows most of the time it's just all in their head and fake but also knows well to advice a doctor when he sees a real patient.

Now as far as other things are concerned it should have gone crazy with it more often than just a couple of times when it comes to scares and violence because this cast was strong and was underutilized at moments. And ya it's always great to see Patrick Fabian in any role, his smile is just so infectious. Overall a good flick and underrated too.

QUIT... shaking that camera, Michale Bay fanboy... Damn it...⛽🧊🌡️

After finishing this movie I was just thinking, what would happen if someone got this splinter in their dick somehow. Will it detach itself and start running around as it did in "Bad Biology 2008" or will the two testicles start fighting with each other considering as you know it has a brain of its own.
Well, I say there should be a reboot of "Bad Biology" to answer this.
(Now don't you guys dare blame me for putting this thought in your mind. 😁🤣)

I love this movie for the same reason I love movies like "ATM" and "The Mist", all of these movies have a few things in common, compact space, limited number of participants, and circumstances forcing these participants to work together irrespective of their differences and this is a perfect recipe for a good horror thriller. Here we have a trio... Oh well, there are more but watch the movie or some will start screaming "Should have marked as spoilers... Blah blah blah..." So a trio with one of them being a convict holding a couple at gunpoint but as soon as shit goes sideways all three of them get the gravity of the situation. By keeping their egos aside they learn to work together by understanding the nature of the threat they are facing and utilizing things around them to buy as much time as they can till help arrives or somehow they can escape from it.

From start to end it's a thrilling ride, supported by some top-notch practical effects that still look dope as fuck and a script that hardly dumbs down its characters for cheap money shots. The only thing that irritates me is the shaky cam, and fuck me... there is a ton of it, I mean I get it that you have to compensate for those cuts to hide the flaws in your effects but this is just so annoying. You just can not have one scene where that heart-pumping background track is on and the camera isn't having an epileptic episode.

But overall a great flick and ya an extra star for shooting it in a gas station, just love them so much.

Ever since I was a kid, I've been in love with trains. 🚂, to the extent that I sometimes miss my stop in metros intentionally just to enjoy the ride a bit longer. I don't know why, but whenever the journey ends, for some reason, my heart sinks. In a world where everyone's in a rush to reach home, I'm the weird one who wants to stick around on a moving train a bit longer. 🚆 It's like this cozy escape where everything outside is a blur, and I'm in my own little train world.

Apart from being crazy about "extreme horror", and "drama/romantic - sci-fi flicks," I'm also super into movies with trains. By the end of the coming year, I want to review as many as I can, and I'd love some recommendations.

Also, if you too are into trains, I would love to hear your stories, and how this obsession became part of your life story. 🛤️🎥🚂
