kind of sad in a way considering that what is showcased is a lack of compulsion to create, to express himself, more so a compulsion to dive head first into "work" (i.e. camping trip, ditch day) much like his father as a means to escape. even when John Ford (a scene that anyone only cares about because of David Lynch) asks him to describe art the best he can do is dictate the surface level images on the canvas.
