Part 2 went quickly into production after the success of Friday the 13th and while it botched so many things, it does at the very least take the series into a more compelling direction even if it makes no sense whatsoever.
Most importantly, Jason is now the killer. How? Well, it's better to ignore that or just come up with your own conclusions but no, the film has to explicitly state Jason actually survived drowning, lived in the woods as a hermit his whole life, and then saw his poor mother decapitated at the end of the first film. I'm sorry, but that is just totally unacceptable. This is perhaps the biggest writing goof of the entire series which is a monumental achievement in failure.
Why does he need to be alive? Why does he have to be a real person? Cant he just be some ambiguous force of nature or ghostly visage resurrected by the powerful wrath of his mother? Anything would be better.
Anyways, this movie mostly sucks. It has one good kill and there are some nice camera tricks in the final chase scene which itself feels pretty realistic since the lead is built as more than capable of taking on Deliverance Era Jason.
