For the cornfield scenes, Christopher Nolan decided to grow 500 acres of corn, which he learned from Zack Snyder while producing Man of Steel when he created the Kent family farm. Nolan liked the farmhouse they scouted and didn't want to CGI the farm into a real cornfield or CGI a fake cornfield around the farm. The corn was sold for profit, and I will always respect Nolan's commitment to cinematic realism and practical effects. I love this movie so much. I saw it in theaters with a friend when it came out and always considered it one of the best movies I'd seen, but as a 15-year-old who wasn't really into movies, I didn't realize I was watching a modern masterpiece that is considered by many to be one of the greatest films ever.

The technical filmmaking here is arguably the greatest of Nolan's filmography, from Nolan's direction to Hoyte van Hoytema's stunning cinematography to Hans Zimmer's iconic score to the outstanding acting and Oscar-winning visual effects. It's also probably Nolan's most emotional film, with powerful themes of love and sacrifice. Cooper and Murph's relationship, and especially the "years of messages" scene, always gets me. There's a lot of big-brainey science stuff that I don't fully understand, but I know Nolan worked with an astrophysicist, and this film resulted in three officially recognized scientific papers. Every Nolan film gets you thinking, which I appreciate. It's an instant sci-fi classic for a reason and arguably Nolan's greatest film.
