I've always had a soft spot for Cannibal Ferox (or as much of a soft spot as you can have for a film as repellent as this) as it was, I think, the first of the DPP 39 I saw. As a 12 year old, it made quite an impression.
On a rewatch many years later, it was striking just how much it rips off the superior Cannibal Holocaust (I saw Ferox long before Holocaust) and how jarring the cuts are between the jungle and New York. In fact, the entire New York subplot is completely unnecessary - Umberto Lenzi could have removed the whole thing and it would make no difference whatsoever, except his film would have been too short.
On the plus side, what gore there is is pretty nasty, there's one absolutely standout practical effect, and unhinged John Morghen is always good value.
