A true Kubrickian masterpiece of existential dread disguised as a sexy thriller.
So, our hero, Dr. Bill Harford (played by the charming Tom Cruise), discovers his wife, Alice (the stunning Nicole Kidman), has a secret fantasy about a dashing naval officer. Naturally, Bill's ego takes a hit, so he decides to embark on a thrilling adventure of his own: infiltrating a secret society of masked orgies.
And what does he find? A whole lot of masked people doing masked things. Shocking, I know. There's masked dominatrices, masked musicians, and even masked... wait for it... puppies! Yes, you read that right. Masked puppies. Because nothing says "erotic" like a dog wearing a tiny mask.
But wait, there's more! Bill gets caught up in this whole sordid affair, almost getting himself killed a few times along the way. All for what? To find out that his wife's fantasy wasn't real? That the whole secret society thing was just a big misunderstanding? Talk about an anti-climax.
For a second rewatch, Eyes Wide Shut, proves to be a film that promises a thrilling exploration of desire and ends with a whimper. But hey, at least the costumes were pretty, right?

Before zorro, Antonio Banderas was The El mariachi.
It’s a classic cinematic masterpiece that I grew up with. Considering it was in the 90s, it elevates the action genre to new heights. This stylish and explosive film boasts a stellar cast, breathtaking cinematography, and unforgettable action sequences that have solidified its place in film history.
Antonio Banderas delivers a charismatic performance as El Mariachi, a mysterious guitar-playing gunslinger seeking vengeance. His chemistry with the stunning Salma Hayek is undeniable, adding a layer of romance to the otherwise brutal narrative ( she was also so horny in this). The supporting cast, including Joaquim de Almeida as the menacing drug lord Bucho and Cheech Marin as the wise-cracking bartender, further enhance the film's allure.
Rodriguez's signature visual flair is on full display in Desperado. The vibrant colors, dynamic camera work, and innovative use of slow-motion create a visually striking experience. The film's iconic shootout scenes are meticulously choreographed and executed, showcasing a level of artistry rarely seen in action cinema.
While Desperado is a thrilling ride, it's not without its flaws. Some plot points may seem contrived, and the film's reliance on stereotypes could be seen as problematic. However, these minor shortcomings are easily overshadowed by the film's undeniable energy and entertainment value.
Desperado is a must-watch for fans of action cinema and a testament to Robert Rodriguez's visionary filmmaking. Its blend of style, substance, and sheer excitement make it a timeless classic.

A Bullet-Ridden Symphony of Revenge
So this is not the El mariachi I thought I knew(Antonio Banderas) but Robert Rodriguez's El Mariachi is a low-budget masterpiece that proved to redefine the action genre. This film is a gritty and stylish revenge tale that showcases Rodriguez's innovative filmmaking techniques.
The story is simple yet effective: a wandering mariachi musician, played by Carlos Gallardo, is mistaken for a ruthless killer. As he tries to clear his name, he becomes embroiled in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a local crime lord. The film's narrative is tight and focused, with a satisfying payoff that leaves the audience craving more.
The cinematography is stunning, especially considering the film's limited budget. Rodriguez's use of black and white photography gives the film a timeless quality, while the dynamic camera work and creative editing techniques elevate the action sequences to a whole new level. The film's iconic guitar case full of weapons is a testament to Rodriguez's ingenuity.
The characters, though somewhat stereotypical, are well-developed and engaging. Gallardo's performance as the stoic and mysterious mariachi is captivating, while the villainous characters are suitably menacing.
The action sequences are intense and well-choreographed, with a focus on practical effects and stunt work. The film's climactic shootout is a masterpiece of tension and suspense, showcasing Rodriguez's talent for crafting thrilling action sequences.
While El Mariachi is a groundbreaking film, it's not without its flaws. The dialogue can be a bit clunky at times, and the pacing can be uneven, plot holes and an unclear motive. However, these minor shortcomings are easily overlooked in the face of the film's many strengths.
Overall, El Mariachi is a must-watch for any fan of action cinema. It's a film that proves that great filmmaking doesn't require a big budget, just a lot of creativity and passion.
A Bulletproof Masterclass
John Wick: Chapter 4 is a relentless barrage of action, style, and Keanu Reeves. The film pushes the boundaries of the franchise, delivering jaw-dropping fight sequences and a visually stunning world. While the plot may be thin, the sheer spectacle of the film is undeniable. It's a must-watch for fans of the series and action cinema in general.
