Persona 1966

One of the most discussed and analyzed films of all time, Bergman’s Persona poses powerfully thought-provoking questions about the human condition, female identity, and trauma in 83 minutes.
It’s easy to see how influential it is on filmmakers such as David Lynch, Todd Haynes, and Denis Villeneuve. Packaged with masterful images and unforgettable acting from the two leads — Persona is nothing short of a cinematic feast. 👏🏽

“To be young and not a revolutionary is a biological contradiction.”

Güeros is a road trip/coming-of-age drama that focuses on two brothers as they try to find an old folk musician during the 1999 student strikes in Mexico City.
While not a masterpiece, I enjoy the existential theme of disenchanted youth in Güeros. Its seemingly aimless plot is intended to reflect the aimlessness of the young protagonists, which reminds me of previous films such as Dazed and Confused and Over the Edge.

Packaged with gorgeous black and white imagery as well as simplistic performances, I can’t deny my appreciation for this film. 👏🏽

I have no reasonable doubt that what Scorsese said regarding Sydney Lumet’s filmmaking style is true: his works have an “unusually dynamic feeling for drama.”
