When you play the game of shōguns, you win or you commit seppuku. There is no middle ground.

"let your hands be the last to hold her"
i am losing every shred of sanity i have left

I’m not gonna wait for the finale, the show is too amazing to withhold these stars any longer.

love triangle but the 3rd wheel is suicide

It's called Shogun and in the first 5 minutes they show a gun, that's art. that's cinema.

''So, I sent a woman to do what an army never could.''
FX's Game of Thrones. More than House of the Dragon ever tried.
FX finally made something truly exciting and groundbreaking in drama with Shōgun since Fargo. What makes this story is so exciting that the language (barrier) is the main character. The tension and the conflicts relies on it. Brilliant. Don't expect epic battles or exaggerated promises, it's a slow-burner and based on political war.
The production is majestic, it's really stunning to see Feudal Japan with its all glory. The whole cast is a bucket of gem and finally Hiroyuki Sanada got the lead role that he deserved before. Truly a legend. It ends with the classiest ending possible! Truly unexpected and poetic. Toranaga is a legit mastermind!

“Flowers are only flowers because they fall. But thankfully, the wind.”
It was never about the battles, swords, land, or cannons. It was about the people. Brilliant choice for a finale to be almost completely focused on character. A great choice for most of the show to focus on character too anyway. Their words and stares were usually more piercing than any dagger. It’s a collection of unbelievable performances with Anna Sawai, Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis easily leading the pack. There was so much to love here and I’m honestly sad it’s actually over. I’m not sure if there will be more but I hope there isn’t. This was near perfect.
I understand disliking the finale but I honestly understood it. There’s no need for any more bombastic spectacle beyond the wonderful performances the show provides anyway. Show of the year so far.

So, this was a very new and interesting experience for me. Prior to this show, I had already seen the Mofune/Chamberlain miniseries, and I liked it alright, but I felt I was missing something. I liked it but there were a lot of contexts I felt I was missing. So, for this new re-adaptation, I decided to read the book and actually finished it a week before starting the show, which technically I’ve seen twice as I watched the first episodes on my own and then watched the whole thing with my mom.
And personally, I think I love the series more than the book. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate the book. I believe I gave it 4…

I don't trust anyone who dislikes this series

Toranaga will try to noodle,
Although his plan looks a bit brutal.
Might look like too much,
When he goes Dutch,
Putting the feud back in feudal.

'Flowers are only flowers beacuse they fall'
17th century feudal Japan. A land of honor and cultural heritage. The most pragmatic of Western worldviews. Shōgun is a historical drama that explores beyond just a culture.
Let's start with John Blackthorne, a character who is forced to be both the player and the pawn in this game of peace. The character study of all the characters in this series is magnificent but the English Navigator's journey is legendary to say the least. He is stranded but still has to navigate, not the sea but the uneven waters of samurai politics and learn Japanese on his own.
'If I could use words
like scattering flowers and falling leaves
what a bonfire my…
