Sometimes our love for an actor leads us down the wrong path. Cate Blanchett, I did this for you.

Charles Dance playing POTUS without ever at all attempting an accent is so funny

A giant brain the size of a Volkswagen! Ancient bog people who explode when they masturbate! Self-effacing jokes about Canada’s place in the world! “Rumours” might abandon the silent film aesthetic that has come to define Guy Maddin’s singular brand of absurdism, but not even the complete absence of exclamatory title cards is enough to suggest that this ridiculous comedy of manners could have — or would have — been made by anybody else.
Reuniting with co-directors Evan and Galen Johnson for their first proper feature since “The Forbidden Room” in 2015, the pride of Winnipeg returns to the big screen with a movie that shakes up his style without sacrificing any of its silliness, a feat made all the…

The best thing about this movie is Cate Blanchett doing a Sandra Hüller impression doing a Lady Di impression. A camp and colourful and chaotic mess!

It's a testament to Guy Maddin that even at his most "conventional" and "accessible" (big name actors doing goofy political satire) this is still chock full of of incredible and beautiful artificial comic-horror surrealism. Bog zombies, giant glowing brains, AI pedophile hunters, and much more. With the exception of almost everything involving Roy Dupuis as the sensitive, strong, heroic, hallmark-handsome cartoon Canadian prime minister ("I LOVE STRONG WOMEN!", or every time the Lord of the Rings ass music kicked in lol) I do think the gags can get a little inconsistent due to the almost random episodic nature of how it's been structured. Though I appreciated the explanation for this that Maddin mentioned during the Q&A when someone asked about…

maybe the real provisional statement was the friends they made along the way

RUMOURS starts off hilariously as a satire of seven democratic world leaders coming together to formulate a statement on a global crisis. Initially, the frequent laughs, strong cast chemistry, and intriguing premise had me hooked. However, as the film progressed, the humor became more sporadic & less effective, and the unexplainable elements ended up weakening rather than enhancing the overall experience for me.

Big brain movie, you know 😜
Cate Blanchett had one of the worst 3 movie runs (with Borderlands and Disclaimer) IN THE SAME YEAR. Gotta respect 💀

???????????????????????????????
if this is Guy Maddin at his most commercial what the fuck does he normally make. Roy Dupuis screams “I LOVE STRONG WOMEN. I LOVE THEM TOO MUCH” and then runs into the woods. masturbating zombies. idk man. like a lot of movies, needed more Alicia Vikander

Caught somewhere between a political satire, a soap opera, a B-movie horror, and complete nonsensical schlock. The actors in this do some of their worst work. The green screen is so obvious (or that's part of the gig? Beats me) and the color palette is enough to get nauseous. Didn't understand the dialogue at times because of poor sound design and too many accents being mixed together. I laughed a few times but that's it. Got really boring and nonsensical beyond redemption.
