Sheer fucking hubris.
Kind of a prequel to Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox follows siblings Rudy and Gloria and their friend Pat preparing for a journey into the rainforest as They plan to prove Gloria's theory that cannibalism is a myth while stumbling upon a guy who is hellbent on winning the asshole of the year award and getting everyone fucked in the process.
Simply stating the acts of these teens as curiosity would be a stupid thing to say because what it is, is either ignorance or the desire to be "Food". What this movie also defines is that you can get good education with money but not common sense, also how can you call yourself an anthropology student when…

Spooktober IV: Morte all'italiana
Lenzi gets into the game of cannibal films, and while he follows the formula pretty closely, he also gives it his own spin by turning the film into a revenge tale in which the cannibals act not so much out of savagery as out of anger at the white "civilized" men who have invaded their land and begun killing their people. With only a handful of (perhaps actual) animal deaths and most of the gore saved for the third act (including a funny head-slice kill and, of course, because you must have them, some tits being poked out), this film is also rather mild in comparison to others in the genre. The performances aren't the best, but they…

Cannibal Ferox is Umberto Lenzi's second foray into the cannibal subgenre (after Eaten Alive, which I haven't seen yet) and it luckily contains less animal cruelty and less rape than Ruggero Deodato's Cannibal Holocaust. Sadly it also has less of a compelling story, less spectacular gore* and less nudity.
I watched the Shameless blu-ray which removed most of the nasty animal stuff (the turtle- and alligator killings were left in for some reason). I did get to see the scenes that were missing from my cut though (thanks, Michelle).
The music was pretty good, but nowhere near as awesome as Riz Ortolani's CH score.
I was hoping to see more of Lorraine De Selle but she kept it reasonably PG.
*A scene involving hooks and a pair of bewbs was fairly impressive and definitively a highlight.
Fluctuates between 3 and 3,5 stars for me.

MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY.
Jarring shock in droves and filled with all the exploitation you’d think to find in a sicko Italian cannibal movie, Ferox adds a buttery crust of grimy nyc sleaze to the cannibal nightmare charade. It’s hard to watch at times and doesn’t come across as having as much to say as it’s monolithic competitor, Cannibal Holocaust, but Ferox isn’t completely desolate as far as the deeper meaning pool is concerned.. its always interesting and this sleazy sick fuck film is soundwaved with an amazing score, so there’s that.
Lenzi was a treasure—I’ll miss you in this world, you sick, egotistical, brilliant maniac bastard. <3

Kubrick, Carpenter, Romero: A-list directors reigned supreme in the early '80s, but there was — if only for a short time! — something more chilling than Slashers and Zombies: the Italian Cannibal Film! People forget this now but the maligned sub-genre was really explosive back in the days. I know. I was there when it rocked video stores.
Look, bad rep was everything in the '80s, and 'Ferox had one of the most notorious and morally repulsive aura of all. From today's perspective, Umberto Lenzi's "video nasty" can't do shit to shock us. But does it really matter? I don't think so. The story is wonderfully pulpy, the soundtrack bewitching, the actores would make any '70s XXX-film proud, plus, the…

At some point I lost track of when I’ve seen which cannibal movie or which scene belonged to this or that movie. A lot of these flicks from that time are just similar, but it's the little differences that make it worth watching.
In terms of brutality (where it also looks reasonably realistic) probably the No. 1 among all cannibal movies. Even Cannibal Holocaust doesn't quite measure up to that (although it's the best in the overall package). The killing of animals is once again more than unnecessary here, but you have to be aware of that when you watch movies from this period.

Spookyween 2023: Video Nasty Month
Day 7
There's no getting away from the fact that the majority of this is an over-simplified rip-off of Cannibal Holocaust. It's blatant. I know it, the distributors knew it, the actors knew it, the director knew it. It takes the structure, the basic thesis statement, the extremely graphic violence, the look, the tone. One of the few things it didn't take was the thing that made the original film very clever, which was its inadvertent criticism of extreme cinema audiences. Ferox instead takes the easy path; if there's a moral, it's the usual 'but who are the real monsters' cliche.
Taking all that into consideration, it's still a pretty fun watch. The practical effects…

it's gory, but it's still just a more tame version of cannibal holocaust, which i did not like btw. would not recommend.

Film 38/45 for Hooptober 4.0
3/3 of 3 People Eating People (non-zombie)
Y’ALL. Y’AAAAAALLLLL.
I have somehow managed to fill this entire weekend with films that would seriously traumatize a lot of people. Luckily, I am jaded AF...or I simply have no feelings anymore...or a bit of both...otherwise I’d be in pretty awful shape.
I had not seen this in probably 10 years but I remember a time, way back in the early-ish 2000’s, when I watched some of the gorier scenes from this on some website and was legit horrified...and yet very, VERY intrigued. Maybe it’s because I was younger or maybe it’s because I had not yet reached the cinematic depths of utter depravity that I have now,…

"C'mon sis...don't make it worse" -brother,
I love the score that indicates "people or animals gettin' eaten."
If I had the opportunity to eat a human being I think I probably would...I mean I know I should say I wouldn't but in the right circumstances yeah I'd probably do it. I assume if it has come to that we are in a very different world so there is a lot to consider, I'm just cutting to the chase here. I doubt I'd be proud of it but I'm just that guy who has to try new things. Look...who are YOU to judge me?
-
I'm fascinated by Rudy's neckerchief that says "OshKosh B'gosh" (it's a clothing brand for toddlers...!) and the numerous continuity errors it's responsible for.
OshKosh B'gosh.

Human chompings, breast impalements, penal hackings, gruesome gougings, dickhead junkie Giovanni Radice, jaywalkin’ iguanas and groovy jungle jams make Umberto Lenzi’s ripoff of the far-superior Cannibal Holocaust worth the price of admission. Cannibal Ferox, in spite of its bad acting, deplorable animal killings and recycled plot, still manages to be somewhat enjoyable (though I use that term very loosely) for fans of Italian cannibal flicks. The best part of this one is definitely the score from the duo of Roberto Donati and Fiamma Maglione; I have probably listened to these tunes on their own more times than I have actually watched this movie. Lenzi and his scuzzy style have no business being this technically solid, with the zoom-crazy camerawork, stunning…
